Other than the game winner, what was your favorite moment?

Post by aggiesdotcom » March 9th, 2020, 8:00 am

The back-to-back 3s by Sam to go up 44-42. Bean's reaction was my reaction. Loved it!

The Queta ram dunk and 1 to go up 51-47. Also great.

Fonzo's back-to-back 3s to bring us back to 36-37.

Others?

When Sam scored 7 straight. That's when I realized we had more than just a punchers chance.

Sam's seven-point run to kickstart the team as they were on the verge of a blowout

Brito's HUGE 3 pointer at the first half buzzer

Justin Bean diving on the floor

Every Craig Smith interview

Abel Porter playing through pain so the Aggies could run a normal offense w/o Merrill having to man the point

The Aggie faithful going nuts after Sam’s shot. Took a lot of fanhood to go down to Vegas this year with so much stacked against us. I know I didn’t have enough to get me there. The fans deserved to experience that moment for their loyalty.

Bean diving in the loose ball at midcourt. Momentum grabbing play that was huge.

Loved many of the others mentioned here. I also think it was huge that our small forwards did not fire up a ton of threes.

Brito's buzzer beater 3 needs more praise. I knew at that point we are truly back in the game.

I'm going to go back a bit further. We trailed New Mexico at the final media timeout in the quarterfinals. Then Sam scored seven points on the next three possessions. Without that run none of the things on Saturday even happen.

The look on the SDSU fan base when they realized they were going to lose. Some realized this once Sam hit the 3 earlier in Flynn’s face. But the rest didn’t realize it until The Shot. The fans around me had been so arrogant all week long. Mocking us and asking us if we felt like we could even stay within single digits of them. All week long I had to take it. Then The Shot and Sam Diogo St. fans world collapsed. The peasants rejoiced. Cats and Dogs lives happily together. World Peace ensued. Everything was made right as the Aggies put on their dancing shoes.

Re-watch "The Shot" and you'll see a Sam Diego St. fan sitting behind the Aggies bench and he has his back turned to the floor. He just couldn't stand to watch the play unfold.

Priceless.

First time in a long time that I enjoyed watching 1 on 1 ball. I love that Smith doesn’t go to it till the end of the game.

Too many to pick just one. Here are some of my favorites (many have been mentioned)...
Brito's big shot to end the half
Queta's power step & JAM
Queta's airball baby hook, offensive rebound, putback
Anderson's big threes
Sam's TWO big threes
Abel's +10 in the championship game... might have been the guttiest performance of the tourney
Sam getting emotional talking about wanting/needing to get back to the NCAA tourney to get that elusive NCAAT win then pounding the floor after the MWCT win to say "we're back"
Coach Smith roughing up Evan Washburn's hair in the post-game interview

I really enjoyed Feagan's reaction of disbelief to the game winner by throwing his arms up as if to say "Hey, I fouled him up top, took out his landing zone below, and then cleared him out with the body all the way to mid court...what else could I have done?"

Also lost in the glory of the game is that Miller didn't miss.a.single.shot. That was huge for us!

Someone posted this on Twitter. Is was hilarious! The awesome thing is that Washburn and Smith have kindof developed a rapport and I'm not sure any other person gets to mess up Washburn's perfectly coiffed hair and get him to genuinely laugh about it like he is enjoying it.

I loved the last 24 minutes of the game. But Alphonso's 3s, when we were down by 7 with the momentum shifting...he came off the bench and immediately buried them. That was so huge.

Bean's defense on Mitchell.
Sam's heroics.
Brito's only points of the game, a momentum changing 3.
Phonso's 2 key threes to wrest the momentum back in the 2nd half.
"I'll Make It" Sam "Jimmy Chitwood" Merrill.
The look on everyone's face when Flynn's shot goes around the rim and out.

I haven’t watched much of Flynn and he certainly has put up big numbers. He disappeared in a big way Saturday and he looked like a broken man in the handshake line and even more so in the press conference. Did we break him?

That was one of my favorite moments.

There was so much memorable about the series and the championship game. Aside from The Shot, and the comeback from the first half stall, for me it was the peripheral stuff.

-the crowd waiting to get in the arena, and a massive LET'S GO AGGIES chant as the doors opened
-Seeing Abel tell the trainer he wanted to keep going after his starting shift
-listening to and feeling the Aggie fans overtake the Aztec crowd
-having Smith (and Groot) turn to the crowd numerous times to get up and bring it and that they (we) did get up and bring it.

Man, re watched the whole tournament again today. ALOT of big moments each game.

VS New Mexico:
Brito 5 point run, his flex, and then his 3 to seal the deal.
Sam looking so pissed on the bench with four fouls. Then coming back in and taking over. His deep straight on 3 to put USU up for good other than a one possession tie was deadly.

VS Wyoming
Queta stuffing Wyoming 3 straight possessions late in the game. Then there was Sam again hitting big shot after big shot. Queta was huge that game offensively as well.

The Championship:
Fonso hitting back to back threes when momentum was shifting.
Quetas and 1 dunk!!!!!!!
Bean diving to win that 50/50 ball.
Sams pull up DEEP 3 after his steal.

Just an epic, gritty tournament for the Ags.
Especially to come back from the brink vs New Mexico.
It was amazing to be there and experience the championship. Proud to be an Aggie!!!

Queta being knocked to the floor on the defensive end without a call being made then goes down to our end , steps around Wetzel, and puts it away emphatically to say, “Take That!”

Merrill taking over the game down the stretch vs Wyoming. Had a great assist to Quetta for a fast break lay up and then scored 7 straight. He put that game away just like the others!

Anderson's 3's.
Honestly, I think those were the biggest shots of the game besides the game-winner. We caught them but then they ran right back out to a 7-point lead. It was a very dangerous moment of the game and Fonz brought us right back. Massive shots.
