Sam Merrill's draft potential?
I'm here to predict two things. Does anyone want to bet me?
#1 Sam Merrill won't be drafted in the first round.
#2 The Utah Jazz won't draft him in the first or the second round.
Who wants to bet?

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
Merrill could definitely be picked in the 2nd round by some team to prevent him from going UDFAs world of teams competing for Merrill. Merrill looks like a player that could be a NBA reserve that has great value since for one thing he is as good as Curry on free throws.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑March 8th, 2020, 6:10 pmI'm here to predict two things. Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
Sam won’t be drafted. He’ll get a training camp look for sure though if he wants it.

He's 6'5", get that (I can't express myself without swearing) right. He's also fast enough to get the drop on the Aztec dudes that tried to defend him. So eat a bag.

Funny. I thought I heard some voice from afar talking about Luka Doncic being streaky. Strange.

Well, he did cause Flynn and Feagin to leave streaks in their shorts... so... maybe

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
If by "streaky" you mean he's got a great streak at scoring 20+ points in tourney games, I agree with that.
If by "streaky" you mean that he goes on scoring streaks and makes opponents look like punks, I agree with that.
If by "streaky" you are referring to his streak of MWC Tournament MVP awards, I agree with that.

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
Here is someone who knows a lot more than us in here and he thinks Sam does have an NBA future. Teams will draft guys like Sam in the 2nd round. Teams kill for shooters. Look at Duncan Robinson on Miami. He was a DIII player who then went to Michigan and then got signed on their D League team and now is a starter and has hit 200+ 3’s for them. A team would definitely roll the dice on Sam with a 2nd round pick.

Not saying that they will draft him, but Danny Ainge was at the New Mexico game and made a point of congratulating Sam after the win.

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
Someone who is more knowledgeable than me tell me why Dellavedova can have a long nba career and Merrill can't? Not saying Merrill will, but there are comparable guys who played at a similar level with similar size and put up similar numbers and have made a career for themselves in the NBA.

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
My worst nightmare would be Sam getting drafted by the celtics. I flipping hate that franchise (though they did the Jazz a huge favor in taking Hayward). I guess I would be happy for Sam getting a shot in the nba.

Maybe a very late 2nd but More likely he sticks as an UFA somewhere
Definitely skilled enough to play in the league and has the size. Athleticism is the question and whether teams are turned off by his age

I guess? You tell me. There’s always an exception to a general rule you could cite but they’re general rules for a reason. You’re telling me no team will move him down their board because of his age?AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑March 8th, 2020, 9:30 pmLike Manu Ginobili?Intermeddler wrote: ↑March 8th, 2020, 9:22 pmAthleticism is the question and whether teams are turned off by his age

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
Sam has a decent shot of being drafted. Think he needs to decrease his body fat% as much as anything. His game is similar to Tyler Herro. Herro is quicker and longer than Sam but I would say Sam has a more consistent shot and is a better ball handler.

You don't score over 2,000 points in your career by being streaky.

Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
A four-year streak at that.
Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
what's with people being out of touch with reality? Merril is too slow, and unathletic and slightly undersized for his position in the NBA. i'm not trying to "troll" or anything, but at the same time, i have to be honest.
The skill gap between Flynn and Merrill is vastly different. Flynn is a projected late 1st rounder and merrill (is a solid ncaa player, he simply does not have what the NBA usually goes for)

Flynn is severely undersized for the NBA at 6’1.
I’m still waiting for you to tell us where the reigning DPOY was on that last shot.

And undersized?? How tall do you think shooting guards are in the NBA these days? Do you really even watch basketball? Or are you like most byu fans and get your information from a computer, phone or TV?SDSU wrote: ↑March 9th, 2020, 5:10 amwhat's with people being out of touch with reality? Re: Sam Merrill's draft potential?
I think Sam has a very slim chance of being drafted. I don't have a clue about this year's draft. He will need to perform well in work outs and trim some weight. A really nice NC2A run would also help him out.
