A must win tonight
We have to win tonight or else we are NIT bound. That is just how it is now with mid-majors.
The ncaa as we all know has locked out the G5 conferences in football, and gradually they have been trying to make it so the basketball mid-majors have to damn near play perfect basketball to make it to the ncaa tournament.. He’ll, even one of the favored sons of the P5 in UCLA they are questioning if they make it. My gosh UCLA is in a tie for their regular season conference championship. Something has to be doone for teams who win their regular season conference championship to get to the ncaa instead of one of them losing in 3 days of March so they go to the NIT, which no matter how the ncaa makes the NIT appear, it still means Not In Tournament.
I hate having to play a team 3 times when we have beat them 2 times in the regular season. We have got to start very well tonight. Last night we shot 50% for the game and barely won. We have to do even better tonight. I thing our inside presence is an lot better than Nevada’s so hopefully that will be the difference.

Re: A must win tonight
What if we win tonight and BSU pulls off the stunner, would that also make the championship game a must win too? I think it would. The only way we can lose one of the next two games is if SDSU is the loss. Anything else, I think we're going to NIT, no way the MW gets 3 teams in. So we should be cheering for SDSU? Right?

I've thought about this more than I should have.Aggie19 wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 11:43 amWhat if we win tonight and BSU pulls off the stunner, would that also make the championship game a must win too? I would say no.
I prefer a must win with BSU to get the automatic bid than getting SDSU and a chance based on how we perform and the mercy of the committee.

Honest truth, I think an at-large is almost out of the picture. MAYBE if we lose to SDSU in a competitive game we’re in, but we’re still at the mercy of the committee and even then it would be for an 11/12 seed play-in game.Sl7vk wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 11:47 amI've thought about this more than I should have.Aggie19 wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 11:43 amWhat if we win tonight and BSU pulls off the stunner, would that also make the championship game a must win too? Personally I’ll be cheering for Boise. I’m viewing that title game as a must win regardless of who it is and we got a better chance against them. While I don’t think the Aztecs are really a top 5 team in the nation, they are 29-1 for a reason and they know how to close out games.

Meanwhile lunardi is saying 7 teams from the pac12. What a freaking joke. That conference does not deserve 4. Maybe 3.

Re: A must win tonight
#36 No. Iowa lost to Drake (#166) today in tourney quarter finals. So that's one more bubble dilemma that would seem to warrant winning the whole thing. A close loss to SDSU in finals might give us some leverage on them, but that's just one of many scenarios to worry about.

You think UNI would still hop us after that loss? Aren’t they from a one bid league?Bank Shot wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 1:19 pm#36 No. Iowa lost to Drake (#166) today in tourney quarter finals. We gotta win out. I guarantee you if we lose they will find a way to leave us out.

Re: A must win tonight
Holy Cow I just saw that! That is HUGE...and in a bad way! UNI would probably get a bid over us. They have not lost by double digits the entire season and only have 6 losses. Plus, they have wins over South Carolina AND Colorado. This is exactly what we did not want to happen. Bid stealers from small conferences.SwaggieAggie wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 1:23 pmYou think UNI would still hop us after that loss? Re: A must win tonight
We have such a little man syndrome. Nobody is"looking for a way" to keep us out. I don't think there is some artificial limit on number of teams from the MW in the tourney. If we truly deserve to be in, we'll be in. If we're not, we have nobody to blame but ourselves, having blown big leads at AFA, at Boise, and at NM. There isn't any big conspiracy here. Just focus on winning the tourney, and short of that, let the chips fall where they may. It would definitely look better to lose to SadSU in the final than BSU, but I would rather beat SDSU.

Re: A must win tonight
Reality is that No Iowa by losing BIG to Drake probably just locked up the first NIT auto bid that goes to conference reg season champ that doesn't go dancin'.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 1:36 pmHoly Cow I just saw that! Re: A must win tonight
Sneelock probably gets the mentality of saying we need to blame it on ourselves for the NM, Boise and Air Force losses instead of us being a mid-major from similarly seeing people in court that blame the cops for not having more important things to worry about, difficult things going on in their life, victims pissing them off making them do it, people calling the cops, the law being stupid, or accomplices making them do it. I know when we have an off the field incident, he is quick to say that it's stupid to blame anyone but the players themselves. Which is usually true with athletes from our school that get in trouble, athletes from other schools that get in trouble, and normal people that get in trouble, though the blaming the cops for being bored in the December marijuana incident with Love and Bright looks defensible in hindsight with the players getting the charges dropped.
I do agree with the original point that our losses are a bigger problem than our name.

Re: A must win tonight
Here is the difference. If the MVC regular season champion (UNI) loses in the conference tournament, there is a significant question about whether the MVC gets two bids. If the MWC regular season champion (SDSU) loses, the MWC is obviously a two-bid conference and possibly (but not likely) three.
Re: A must win tonight
I also think that UNI played themselves out of the tournament today. It is an easy reason to leave them out. The 8-seed Drake went on an 18-0 run during more than ten minutes in the second half to take a 20-point lead and then increased the lead from there.Bank Shot wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 2:19 pmReality is that No Iowa by losing BIG to Drake probably just locked up the first NIT auto bid that goes to conference reg season champ that doesn't go dancin'.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 1:36 pmHoly Cow I just saw that! We have to win the tournament to get in. We are currently in the last 4 in, but will get passed up next week with p5 teams winning Q1 and Q2 games in their tournaments.

I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).
