Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes to play
IMO we want Nevada to win. We need our net ranking to be as high as possible and Nevada really helps that.

It's hard to root against the 11th seed.

Same here, Wyoming deserve praise at this MWC tournament run.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 5th, 2020, 11:44 pmIMO we want Nevada to win. We need our net ranking to be as high as possible and Nevada really helps that.

It looks like we are playing Wyoming in the next round.

And ... it's official. Cowboys tomorrow.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

WYO just won. There record is not good, but they are playing well. That being said i would rather play WYO then NEV.

This sucks. Hurts our net ranking by probably 3-4 spots if we were to win tomorrow. Which we would’ve had to do regardless to have a chance.

They have nothing to lose and will come out firing. They obviously can beat better teams like they have done. That being said we should win this game. This will be their 3rd game. We better come ready to play.

Yep. Wyoming is playing with a ton of confidence. Hate that we even have to play a team like Wyoming at this point. Won’t help much to win. Would be earth-shatteringly devastating to lose.

Or, with the glass half full, it gets us one game closer to just getting in so none of those numbers would matterRoy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 12:01 amThis sucks. Hurts our net ranking by probably 3-4 spots if we were to win tomorrow. Which we would’ve had to do regardless to have a chance.

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
I’ve accepted that the only way to get into the NCAA is to win the tournament. All I care about now is getting 3 games out of this tournament, and I really think we can beat wyoming. It relieves a lot of doubt in my mind that we can win tomorrow!

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
After we lost to New Mexico last week it meant we had to win this tournament to get in. A win against an average Nevada team wouldn't do it. I actually like we have a 99.9% winnable game today before the Super Bowl against a potential 1 seed. If Merrill plays awesome like he did yesterday and carries us to this tournament win. He will be better than Jaycee Carroll to me.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 12:01 amThis sucks. Hurts our net ranking by probably 3-4 spots if we were to win tomorrow. I won't debate it with others. I'll respect all opinions, but he'll have done something incredible 2 years in a row that even Carroll couldn't do.

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
Why do fans point at Net Ratings like it really matters? 4-5 points? Really?
The selection committee is like a bunch of politicians. They'll use the numbers as it suits them.
The Aggies must win this MWC tournament otherwise there's no NCAA bid!

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
Wyoming had played nevada close in both regular season games, as well as staying within 7 and 9 points of colorado. So it stands to reason that they could pull off the upset on a neutral court. We beat them by 23/20 points. I think we match up well against them. Nemi is gonna come out strong in this one!

Yes I thought everybody would be excited! We have a much greater chance of making the championship game because Nevada lost. I know Wyo beat them, but they have a really bad record for a reason. If we win I think we are in the tourney, but we need SDSU to win.

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
I'm not a NET expert (I don't think anybody is since they won't release their algorithm), but I doubt we'll drop much, if at all. In fact, when we beat them a couple of weeks ago, we actually went up two spots. At this point in the season, single games don't really affect the NET ranking much. We've been stuck on 38 since before the NM loss.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 12:01 amThis sucks. Hurts our net ranking by probably 3-4 spots if we were to win tomorrow. Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
You might be right, but I still like our chances if we advance to the title game. I think a 25-9 team with wins over two SEC tournament teams is not getting left out.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 5:10 amAfter we lost to New Mexico last week it meant we had to win this tournament to get in. Those two wins hide a multitude of sins (which we have). You can’t compare to the Stew years. We have much better wins this year than any of his teams and now play in a better conference. We are also now in the NET ranking era, which is much more favorable to mid-majors.

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
I just want to play the team that gives us the best chance to win and that is Wyoming. Sure if we lose to San Diego State in the championship I still think we have a pretty good shot and an at-large bid. But at this point let's just win the tournament and then remove all doubt. The boys better come ready to play and not give Wyoming confidence to start with.

Want us to coast to a win and Boise and SDSU to play 4 overtimes or maybe 6. I agree we'll move up, but I'm saying beating a #85 ranked Nevada on a neutral court would probably help our NET ranking be about 3 spot higher than beating Wyoming.BiocatAg wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 7:24 amI'm not a NET expert (I don't think anybody is since they won't release their algorithm), but I doubt we'll drop much, if at all. Whether we beat Wyoming or Nevada is not going to determine whether or not we get an at large. Having 9 losses in a non major conference will determine that.

SDSU is vulnerable. They have not looked like world beaters the last few weeks. Squeaking by the Zoomies last night is just one example. Wouldn’t surprise me if they lose to the Donks. We have a good path to the championship and whiny Dutcher and his band of transfers are sure beatable so bring’em on. We can win this thing outright.

Re: Wyoming is leading under 5 minutes left in the game
When this post was made I almost chimed it to say "no way". This late in the season I didn't think there was any way a team could move that much in NET rankings simply by USU winning over Nevada versus USU winning over Wyoming. No way. Not possible I thought.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 12:01 amThis sucks. Hurts our net ranking by probably 3-4 spots if we were to win tomorrow. I bow down to you Roy McAvoy. I know this isn't one where you wanted to be right, but your NET ranking predictive powers are superior while mine are weak and puny.
