2 plays that killed us...

Post by ThunderAggie » February 29th, 2020, 10:09 pm

1. Porters dumb flagrant foul
2. Britos turnover when we were down 1 and had chance to take lead

Dumb mistakes like this are killers.

Britos stupid and 1 foul on the free dunk. Other than his clutch 3 to put us up by 4, he had some bonehead moves tonight. He rushes down the court on fast breaks and almost all the time makes a mistake. Slow down and set the offense up. Brito thinks he’s Superman all too often.

I am going to put in a couple more.

-we are up 14 and they have shot well from 3 the whole game and we are slow to get out on 3's and they make 3 straight 3's.
-In the first half we had 4 point blank layups and we miss all of them.
-several times we were up by ~8 points and we gave up offensive rebounds that led to a layup or a 3.
-not playing Fonz more in the 2nd half and not playing Bairstow at all was a big mistake.

When Aggie84025 joins in on the complaining after an Aggie loss, you know the second coming is near. ;)

We also ran a play specifically for Merrill and he missed the open 3 then Brito missed the 3.

Not a post about the refs, because we should have made a couple more plays, but...

-2 clear walks by UNM that led to 4 points for them.
-Sam hit on a 3-point attempt (he missed) while we were on our big run- no call
-Sam fouled on a made layup toward the end of the game, no +1

Also, Neemi with butterfingers a few times in the game. Sam missed 3-pointer in the last minute. Wasting waaaaaay too much time on the last offensive possession- only to get the Neemi 1-and-1.

Exactly not just getting a quick two with 19 seconds left versus wasting all the time being tripled teamed at the three.

Miller’s defense is killing us. Down the stretch they attacked Miller who they can get by easily, which causes a breakdown in our defense every single time. I would like to see Alphonso or Bairstow in more.

Brito hit a 3 at the end of the game but really struggled again in taking care of the ball. As a team, we had way too many turnovers(17). Queta played great but did have half(8) of those turnovers.

Looks likely we will be playing them again Thursday. I think we need to win Saturday to get in. Too much upward movement on the bubble from other teams while we drop.

Thanks you guys. I am for sure a glass half full person. I like to the look at the positives in life, for me it makes living in this word bearable. That being said these losses just take it out of me. Between this loss, BSU and AF it just makes me really frustrated. Win one or 2 of those and we would be real close to being a lock for the tourney.

These are the plays when you realize our recruiting left holes unplugged and why we are not an NCAA tournament team this year.
