Wednesday night vs UNLV is spectrum magic night

Post by tysteve20 » February 4th, 2020, 12:39 pm

Spectrum magic shirts will be given out to the whole student section. Hopefully students show up for a late mid-week game.

I'd buy it, but usually they don't offer them for sale (inexplicably).

I still don't get the spectrum colors thing. Supposedly it's supposed to be the fall colors in the canyons, but seriously, who do we think we are? The University of New Hampshire?

The real answer is because they were the cheapest. My Gpa has a big part of building the spectrum 50 years ago. He would get butt hurt every time someone called it ugly

Going the cheap route has been the aggie way for decades. The Old Romney stadium had wooden seats that were painted Brown, and for many years the south end zone only had cement benches to sit on. Things have improved over the last little bit, but the seats in the spectrum remain a reminder of what going on the cheap looks, like odd colored seats which are 50 years old.

To me that is what give the Spectrum its charm. Sure the seats are tight and outdated as well as the colors being horrendous, but that is why I love it. The stadium could for sure need an upgrade. With that being said when the stadium is full and energized there are very few places that compete with the atmosphere it brings..

I love the game they chose this year to do it. A Wednesday night later game against a team that is above in the standings. Should be a great atmosphere and give the team some extra jolt to take care of business.

I never had a great liking for the seat colors, but they are unique. My understanding is that replacing the seats would implicate ADA compliance issues that would essentially require a complete renovation. If that is the case, we are stuck with those seats until a decision is made to either refurbish the Spectrum and bring it into current code compliance or replace it. Any complaints about the ugliness of the seats is really a waste of time and energy. Whatever decision is made, it would be a travesty to move the seats, especially the student section, away from the court. Fans being right on top of the court helps it maintain the magic.

I don't care what anyone else says. Those seats are uncomfortable, but beautiful. I wouldn't change them.

I stood in front of a many of those chairs and wouldn't have the slightest idea if they are comfortable.

This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

When the Spectrum was built those colors were culturally en vogue.

The only reason they aren't comfortable is there is absolutely no leg room. Poor design, cheap design, whatever, USU should not have approved the design. Weber got it right FWIW.

I love the colors. They are home to me. And doing things inexpensively has allowed us to survive. We’ve probably done more with less than any other program in the country. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t always be trying to improve our financial situation because we should but complaining about decisions made 50 years ago on how they spent the resources available at that time is kind of silly. The seats aren’t changing until we have a major building renovation or build a new facility. Not sure why we argue this every single year.

That is a genious idea!! When they replace them, for fundraising, they could sell a Spectrum chair for like $50-100. I guarantee you people would buy a chair so they can always keep part of the Spectrum with them! I know I would. There are around 10,000 seats. We could make between a half a million and a million dollars through this which would help with costs of a new arena, renovation, or just Aggie athletics.

I have told the athletic department that I want my seats. Had them over 15 years...
