Queta Post Touches
Wetzel goes out with 4 fouls around the 5min mark. Queta should be posting up EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION!!! Why in the world are we not doing this. Queta stayed outside on the perimeter and set picks the rest of the freaking game. Not a single pick and roll the entire game. Instead down the stretch we let Miller shoot the majority of the shots and make almost none of them.
We scored 2 points the last 3 minutes. We scored 7 points the last 9 minutes. When we start into these scoring droughts we need to force it into the most high percentage shots and that is in the paint especially when their starting center goes out and the backups had proven to be unsuccessful in guarding Queta. PASS THE BALL INTO THE POST!

Re: Queta Post Touches
This. We took the lead and built it playing inside out. This team seems to struggle sticking with that formula when the opponent makes a run. It's like every player decides they're going to be the one to make the play to turn the tide and we sink deeper and deeper.

This is correct, he had 7 shots in the first and only 1 in the second. SDSU played better defense on him as well.

Re: Queta Post Touches
Queta didn’t score a point in the 2nd half and we were only 2/11 from deep in the 2nd half. It’s not surprising why our offense stalled out. We moved away from Queta and went to Miller. This formula will always fail. Miller shot ok in the first half but that is when Queta is putting pressure on the defense.hipsterdoofus21 wrote:This. We took the lead and built it playing inside out. Re: Queta Post Touches
Didn’t seem to me that the offense “let Miller shoot” so much as Miller was the only guy willing to take shots. Miller has a tendency to force bad shots but he was good tonight.
His only glaringly bad shot was because he thought the shot clock was expiring. The wide open corner three he missed was a dagger but it was a good shot.
Getting the ball the Queta is not as easy as it sounds. Trying to do so resulted in a lot of turnovers
On the other hand, SDSU won with math. The Aggies and Aztecs both made 25 shots, but the Aztecs took way more threes. Obviously, it’s not that simple, but the Aggies have to find some way to get decent 3 point looks for people not named Sam Merrill.
Anderson and Bairstow seem like the guys who have potential but both of them are giving it all back on the other end at the moment.

Re: Queta Post Touches
Brito has been a huge liability on offense all year. Anderson has moments, but then disappears. Miller takes a lot of shots, and misses most.
Somebody had to make the defense pay for overplaying Merrill.

Re: Queta Post Touches
This loss wasn't on Miller. He played well. And as for the quick shot when he thought the shot clock was running down we should all forgive him. He had just absorbed a 280lb beetstick landing on his upper body.

Re: Queta Post Touches
Part of the difficulty in getting Queta the ball is Queta is not fighting for position. Coach needs to be telling him to get down there and fight. Get in deep and turn hard. He never does that. But it appears it is the game plan to have Queta set picks out on top. We worked it in on the first half and played three 39-31 while hitting good 3’s 7/10. In the second half he didn’t take a shot and we forced bad 3’s for 2/11. I think our 3pt% is directly tied to our ability to get the ball in the paint. We dominated points in the paint in the first half. They dominated points in the paint in the second, mostly bc we had almost none.MarioWest wrote:Didn’t seem to me that the offense “let Miller shoot” so much as Miller was the only guy willing to take shots. Re: Queta Post Touches
Completely agree. If Queta was consistently able to get position, this team would be very different on offense.scotlandog wrote: ↑February 1st, 2020, 11:00 pmPart of the difficulty in getting Queta the ball is Queta is not fighting for position. Until he can do that, however, I think it would be a mistake to force him the ball.

But was he just doing what he was told by setting screens up top? If so that's on the coaches.MarioWest wrote: ↑February 1st, 2020, 11:08 pmCompletely agree. Re: Queta Post Touches
Or is it on Queta that the coaches don’t have faith in him to get position? It’s definitely something he needs to get better at.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 1st, 2020, 11:18 pmBut was he just doing what he was told by setting screens up top? As with all things, it’s probably a mix of both.

Re: Queta Post Touches
Yeah, that's true. Would like to have seen us spread the floor and have Merrill and Queta run the pick and roll down the stretch.

Re: Queta Post Touches
Queta was getting double and triple teamed most of the second half. That's where we need some outside shooting to open him up.
