Alphonso's Ejection
I thought that was a very questionable call and I think he and the coach were surprised at the decision. I don't think there will be any additional penalties though.

Re: Alphonso's Ejection
He reached out and shoved a guy. It may have not been the hardest shove or punch in the world, but under the circumstances, it was ill advised given there was a possible fight atmosphere. What AA did was't horrible, but they will call it everytime.Aggiestyle wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 3:08 pmI thought that was a very questionable call and I think he and the coach were surprised at the decision. Re: Alphonso's Ejection
That was a very soft ejection. Call a T and move on. I hated the call on both players being tossed.
Better yet, don’t let a guy drive on another guy and give him a jump ball. Call a foul and half the fights in basketball stop.

Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Except he didn't reach out and shove a guy. The last angle shows Fonz backing off and the other guy pushing his elbow into Fonz. He simply pushed the guy away. It looked a lot more dramatic than it really was.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 3:25 pmHe reached out and shoved a guy. Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Great video. Again it just shows it should have been a tech and not an ejection.

Vern Harris is a terrible official and mwc refs are incompetent morons, I am only surprised when they don’t make the wrong callsProvoAggie wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 3:53 pmExcept he didn't reach out and shove a guy. Re: Alphonso's Ejection
I gave Verne a lot of crap when I was a student, but he was reffing one of our games in the Spectrum earlier this year and did an excellent job. Made calls on us I didn't want on us, but were all good calls.Agzrule wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 4:18 pmVern Harris is a terrible official and mwc refs are incompetent morons, I am only surprised when they don’t make the wrong callsProvoAggie wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 3:53 pmExcept he didn't reach out and shove a guy. EDIT: I didn't see Verne in that clip. Why are we (I can't express myself without swearing)ing on his mediocre name right now?
Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Neither player should have been ejected, but whatever. Verne Harriss is not a MW ref. There are no such things. He does a lot of MW games, but also he does a lot of Pac 12 games, Big Sky, WCC etc.. Does games all over the countries. I think he was a final four ref last year, but it might have been the year before.

Re: Alphonso's Ejection
I think I recall him being there in '14. Mostly because I remember ranting about his incompetency given some his calls in the '13-'14 season.bpd wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 4:38 pmNeither player should have been ejected, but whatever. Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Imo, the flagrant Queta got at Air Force for shoving was much worse. That said, things Alphonso was yelling could have contributed as well.

Talk about an overreaction.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Fonso was wondering if he was going to be in, or out, or in, or out of the game.

Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Very nice Provo...the angle I saw looked like AA was maybe shoving someone...but clearly in your video, he was not. Thanks for your clarification.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑January 29th, 2020, 3:53 pmExcept he didn't reach out and shove a guy. Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Umm... yeah, he did shove him. That video shows it was in reaction to something, sure. But saying he didn't do anything is a bit obtuse.

Re: Alphonso's Ejection
I know this thread has devolved to dick jokes only, but as an official that’s a situation where it’s a penalty early in the game and an ejection at the end so that nobody else gets into any nonsense.

Re: Alphonso's Ejection
Can't really call it a premature ejection if its in the final 12 seconds. Sure it happened quicker than most would want and some might say just let'er finish but if you are trying to get out of there without a bigger problem sometimes you just have to pull em before the climax and pray that no one has any additional consequences. Clearly there was some frustration from the Cowboys for not really being in it at the end and they seemed flustered that we had our way inside all night and didnt really let them get anything going and that dissapointment can boil over into some harsh words and maybe some tears when we seemed to be finishing with out much emotion. Just wham, bam thank you ma'am.TheAKAggie wrote:I know this thread has devolved to dick jokes only, but as an official that’s a situation where it’s a penalty early in the game and an ejection at the end so that nobody else gets into any nonsense.
