Re: Recruiting
This thread is all over the place.
Gentry is not a P5 recruit because he was sharing carries with another guy, yet the other guy he was sharing carries with got offered by everyone under the sun.
I hope we get the kid, seems like a player.

Re: Recruiting
Huh? That is a straw man argument.
Jeffdan’s comment was saying had Gentry not been behind one of the top RB recruits in the nation, gentry too would’ve been a top tier recruit.
He still held several solid p5 offers. Just wasn’t “top tier”.

Re: Recruiting
How is it a straw man argument? It's right here...
"If it wasn't for splitting carries he easily would be a top tier P5 player."
You say " Gentry not been behind", he said "splitting carries". ?
In any case. I hope we land the kid. He has talent. I just don't buy the theory that we are great diamonds in the rough finders. Gentry is not a diamond in the rough though. Not saying that.

Hey 22.... Any word on that JC receiver/punt returner that commited today (Cooper)? What's the story on him? Is he a walk-on kid?

Small, shifty walk-on. Will give it a shot at running back to help fill the voids there. We're short at the position for spring ball.

Looks like 22 has updated the visitors page with an additional visitor on the 247 page. Another guy who was recruited by some big schools at one point.
https://247sports.com/college/utah-stat ... ll/Visits/
Also if you go to the prospects page their is an interesting name from crozet va which is near the university of Virginia.

Remember when Gary's son Chasen committed to Bronco at BYU? He eventually got released from his LOI and went on to redshirt at Wisconsin and eventually transfer to Utah State. My how the tables have turned...

Re: Recruiting
Gentry (once committed to Arkansas and Utah) and McGriff (originally signed with Nebraska) are 3* that would be two of the top 5 recruits we have ever signed and Reyes had multiple P5 offers coming out of high school. I think that's a pretty good start.
I also used the "swinging for the fence" phrase in regards to who we are targeting/have contacted in the transfer portal.

https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/ ... 112465360/Fred McGriff, the baseball player, attended the same high school in Tampa that Justin does. Of course Justin gets asked all the time if they're related. He was asked again last night.
"Sadly, no, we just got the same last name," he said.

I know, but Fred McGriff was nick-named "the Crime Dog". They're both from Tampa. Similar build. Exceptional athletic abilities. But alas, no relation (see above). I was really hoping. Loved me some Crime Dog McGriff back in the day. And, the last son of a big time professional athlete we had on the football team worked out so well I was hoping we could get another

I really like what we are doing at CB. That is going to help out a lot.
Still nervous about our Dline regardless of what formation we run.

I'm guessing we'll see a pair of JuCo transfer defensive linemen visit over the final weekend prior to signing day.

Thank You for the clarificationutahcountyaggie wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 2:48 pmI believe he was originally an Arkansas commit. De-commited then gave commitment to Utah. We are trying to flip his commitment once more (hopefully for the last time)
I believe 22 has entered his Crystal Ball prediction in favor of us flipping him from Utah to USU. That's a pretty good sign, 22 has a pretty good track record on his logged Crystal Ball predictions.
As has already been stated, would be a HUGE pickup for us. I believe he'd bump ahead of Bojay as our 2nd highest ranked recruit in program history.

Re: Recruiting
Speaking of the Crime Dog... About 11 years ago we went to visit my inlaws who were serving an LDS mission in Atlanta. One of the missionaries we met while there was Elder McGriff, and he really was Fred's son. I thought it was awesome that he was serving where his dad had played. (Sorry to jack the thread, now back to recruiting.)Yossarian wrote: ↑January 23rd, 2020, 3:57 pmI loved watching Fred McGriff play.ShowMeAggie wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 10:13 aminquisitive minds want to know...

Fred McGriff has the most magnificent swing among power hitters. Wade Boggs had the best among contact hitters.ShowMeAggie wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 12:19 pmI know, but Fred McGriff was nick-named "the Crime Dog". They're both from Tampa. Similar build. McGriff just unloaded on some of his home runs. He had amazing arm extension and I liked how he would stand straight up on the follow through. He had kind of a golf swing.
Now 30 to 35 years later, I would struggle to make five Major League Baseball players. My kids and their friends would have a hard time naming five teams. It’s funny how things change.

What is it with lefties add their swings? Griffey, Strawberry, and McGriff all were beautiful.

Re: Recruiting
While I love the baseball talk ....
Getting back to recruiting - are we looking for a new center? Someone that can snap the ball consistently accurate to the quarterback when he is in the shotgun? Bad snaps from the center are drive killers.

Re: Recruiting
Sorry for the baseball mention, but I had to set the record straight in my last post by mentioning Teddy Ballgame. Back to football, I do agree about making sure we have a consistent snapping center next season. I was watching Jordan in the senior bowl practice yesterday and I watched him take snaps under center which made me wish our offense knew how to do that last year. He also looked a lot more comfortable taking snaps from shotgun yesterday than he did all last season.

I always thought Rafael Palmeiro had a sweet swing. Cody Bellinger is another one of those "slender" guys with an upright stance and sweet swing in today's game. Harper's swing is just downright violent. He can hit a ball a long way.

I was so enamored with the left-handed swinging motion, I started switch-hitting in my baseball (and backyard whiffleball) days.

Re: Recruiting
I'm not sure if Estes will make it back or not? I'm waiting to hear back. I would imagine that since we wanted him in the first place we would bring him back out.CanuckAggie wrote: ↑January 24th, 2020, 2:35 pmDo you think Estes is still interested 22? Any chance he takes a visit later on?

Yes, Jakob Robinson is coming this weekend as well. BUT it is an unofficial visit. IF Jakob chooses to sign with the Aggies, from what I understand, the plan would be to put him on scholarship in August and he would become a "push forward" and count toward the class of 2021.
