KAR: Aranda head coach at Baylor
Dave Aranda gets the head coaching gig at Baylor. Was some talk in December that he might take the UNLV job before they hired someone else. Baylor clearly a better job. Will be interesting to see how he does as head coach.

Good for Dave. Amazing that we were able to have a guy of his caliber here at little old USU.

Great success story. Was unemployed until GA called him out of the blue in 2011. Not even ten years later he's won a National Championship at one of the most storied programs in college football and now is a head coach at a solid program.

It'll be interesting to see how he does. I never did really see him as a guy that would flourish in being the face of a program and out in front of everyone all the time. Seemed a bit reserved and more like a mad scientist defensive schemer, kind of like Yost but on the other side of the ball. Good for him though. You never know, maybe he'll do great as a HC.

Same. He is clearly a really smart guy but isn't the type of guy you typically think of as a head coach. That said ive had some great leaders that were a little more reserved.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 16th, 2020, 2:33 pmIt'll be interesting to see how he does. Aranda was one my favorite coaches when he was here He said Cache Valley reminded him of Mayberry. Neighbors would bring them pies, neighbor children always inviting his children to come out and play, and felt safe and did not have to lock their doors.
He always looked pretty calm but during the game he could get the players motivated to give all they had.

I'm guessing you are talking about Matt and Dave but don't forget Gary Patterson at TCU.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑January 16th, 2020, 3:04 pmSo now we have 2 former Utah State coaches coaching BIG 12 schools!

Maybe position coaches don't count, but Gary Patterson also coached the DBs in 92-94.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑January 16th, 2020, 3:04 pmSo now we have 2 former Utah State coaches coaching BIG 12 schools!

Re: KAR: Aranda head coach at Baylor
Now Aranda and Wells have similar goals. Aranda's goal is to keep TTURed as fired up about Wells as he has been since he was hired, and on the radio saying that there is a difference between supporting Texas Tech and supporting Matt Wells! While Wells's goal is to keep TTURed quiet and get BUGreen to be the one on the radio going off about Aranda being the wrong hire!

Also, we'll have to see if Bill Busch gets the promotion to DC to replace him and prove that maybe it wasn't his fault our defense was poor under him after all. Or get fired after they lose to Alabama next year, cause after this year, a season of one loss will be considered failure. Or maybe he will follow Aranda to Baylor. Corey Raymond could also get the promotion to DC at LSU or Baylor.

There are times when we find ourselves a better Captain than a General. Good luck to Coach Aranda.

Re: KAR: Aranda head coach at Baylor
I have a Baylor alum/fan in the office and we had a little chat today. He was excited with the hire, but said BU has been one of the strongest D's in the B12 recently (I said that's a really low bar ), so Aranda better find a strong OC and solid O staff top-to-bottom.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑January 16th, 2020, 7:42 pmThere are times when we find ourselves a better Captain than a General.
