Hindsight is 20/20: very unwise to schedule national champion on the road
Hindsight is 20/20: very unwise to schedule national champion on the road
and in the middle of conference games. And across the US. We’ll see if we are the lucky charm for the Huskies next season.

Re: Hindsight is 20/20: very unwise to schedule national champion on the road
I personally like the idea of playing the eventual national champion. And I don't understand why it is continually repeated that we shouldn't have scheduled them "in the middle of conference games". We won the first conference game we played after them, and the games we lost didn't have anything to do with who we played on the first weekend of October.
I can understand the argument that if we want to get a P5 road win, we shouldn't schedule a national title contender and instead should schedule someone like Purdue. But I don't understand the argument that we get beat up and demoralized playing the national champion. We did have some players dinged up for the game against LSU, but they were back the next game. We had more season ending injuries against other teams, Leilua against the type of P5 school everyone argues that we should instead be scheduling, Peasley against an FCS school, and Koch and Woodward against conference opponents, plus one blow towards Woodward came in fall camp.
Down the road, the one game our players will talk about the most is playing against the National Champion.

I had no problem with scheduling LSU. We should forgo scheduling BYU, AFA, and Boise State.

When is the last time before this year we played the national champion of that year earlier in the year?

Can someone please let me know who is going to win the national championship in a couple of years? I would love to put down a bet.

Couldn't disagree more, that gumbo and poboy I ate the night before the game were delicious. Well worth the drubbing, in fact.

Re: Hindsight is 20/20: very unwise to schedule national champion on the road
The only problem with it that I saw was that we came away from the game completely beat up. Half of LSU's players have NFL talent compared to 3 or 4 of USU's players. It completely stopped any momentum USU had and turned the season sour. I'm sure it got into some of the players heads to be dominated so bad. I hope we stay away from those type of games. Rather play other power 5 teams that aren't so loaded.

We play the preseason national champions every year. I want the actual champ.

Post season champs...I know we played Auburn the year after they won the title, but when is the last time we played a team that went on to win a national title that season?TheAKAggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 11:00 amPost season? It was probably the 1984 BYU team (that beat the 6-5 Michigan team to be declared the <disputed> National Champions)ThunderAggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 12:20 pmPost season champs...I know we played Auburn the year after they won the title, but when is the last time we played a team that went on to win a national title that season?TheAKAggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 11:00 amPost season? Great point. We should've scheduled LSU at home this year.

Re: Hindsight is 20/20: very unwise to schedule national champion on the road
I think it's kinda cool and doesn't really matter for a team like this year's USU. Also we get to say stuff like "hey, we held LSU to as many points as Clemson!"
And if this really was one of the best seasons by a football team of all time, it's pretty cool that we were on the schedule.

That wasn't what turned the season sour. The turning point stopping the momentum, if there was one, was Air Force. And the problem wasn't who we played three weeks earlier, the problem was Air Force being better than us. The Air Force game would have turned out the same no matter who we played three weeks earlier.GUS wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 10:13 amThe only problem with it that I saw was that we came away from the game completely beat up. Besides, you don't want a player here if they don't want to compete against the likes of LSU.

Re: Hindsight is 20/20: very unwise to schedule national champion on the road
Lsu has not been elite for many years before this one. They lost to troy 2 years ago and fired their coach the year before that. We got a huge paycheck by playing in a 100,000 seat stadium. Unfortunately injuries are part of the game. No problem with playing a big money game each year. We have almost won a few. We play alabama in a few years. Are people suggesting we cancel that game?
