Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
... for Mississippi State.
Of course WSU is our opening opponent next season -- will be interesting to see who replaces the old pirate.

Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
He is one of my favorite coaches. I am sure money and location had something to with it, but he had a really good thing going at WSU. There will be a lot of pressure to win at Miss State. I hope the new coach loses a bunch of players and they struggle out of the start so we can hopefully get the victory.

Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
I think you've got to be real careful if you're a coach looking for P5 HC opportunity when considering WSU. This is basically the same situation as OSU where you are historically outmatched within your own conference and many of your recruits are located more near your conference mates. I think you have to have the mindset that this is the final destination because neither place has been a resume builder to move onward or upward.
Lucky for Leach he already had his reputation prior to WSU.

Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
The article reads like this was a done deal during the season. Appears both Leach and MSU were discrete in holding the fresh coaching change closely so it would impact neither the WSU players nor school.

Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
In all reality, we don't need their next coach to suck at anything and everything. There are only certain things we want him to suck at. He can be as great of a recruiter and player developer as he wants, we just want him to suck at in-game decision making(similar to Gary on both counts). He can be as great at adjusting things between games throughout the season as he wants, as long as he sucks at preparing players through fall camp. Someone as different from Mike Leach as you can get, the more friction and players unhappy and not wanting to play hard for him cause he is not Mike Leach, the better! As long as he sucks with Mike Leach's players, he can be as great as he wants once all the guys are his down the road. Like let them get someone who insists on playing smashmouth football, getting a running game going, and who is willing to go though the growing pains with the guys recruited for the pass happy offense! Someone who is more of someone to spend all fall camp preparing for the whole season and even spend a few days of practice for the different PAC 12 foes and less of someone who spends all fall camp preparing for the first game, first game, and first game. The more he puts all his marbles on the PAC 12 Championship, PAC 12 Championship, and PAC 12 Championship, the better!aggies22 wrote: ↑January 9th, 2020, 12:19 pmOKAggie wrote: ↑January 9th, 2020, 12:14 pm... for Mississippi State.

Any of these realistic candidates we should hope for as replacements so they suck?918AGG wrote: ↑January 10th, 2020, 10:13 amAglicious - just make sure that the spell makes them REALLY suck, because we just kind of suck.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 9th, 2020, 12:28 pmyes, yes, I am mixing up a spell of certain sucktitude to hex them with as we speak.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 9th, 2020, 12:19 pmOKAggie wrote: ↑January 9th, 2020, 12:14 pm... for Mississippi State.

Ideally they'd take Harsin which would't help us out in September but would help us out for years to come.

Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
Actually washington state has been a frequent resume builder since the idea is if you can win there you can win anywhere. Jim Walden went from wazzu to Iowa state, dennis Erickson went from there to miami. Mike price got the alabama job based off taking wazzu to a few rose bowls. Mike leach absolutely improved his resume at wazzu. They were a trainwreck when he got there. 8 straight losing seasons and Paul wulff the coach before leach went 4-32 in the Pac 12 with most of those losses being blow outs. Leach turned them around and had four straight 8 win seasons until this year. He doesnt get the miss state job if he doesnt do well in Pullman.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 9th, 2020, 2:53 pmI think you've got to be real careful if you're a coach looking for P5 HC opportunity when considering WSU. Harsin will only take that job if he is ready to move on from boise. There are much better jobs he could hold out for.

Leech made double what Harsin makes at Boise.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 10th, 2020, 7:46 pmHarsin will only take that job if he is ready to move on from boise. There are much better jobs he could hold out for.
But yeah, I agree with you in principle.

Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
I'm not speaking from a position of knowledge but Washington State could possibly target Bryan Harsin simply because he has so much experience and has had a TON of success recruiting in the same areas that Washington State targets.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 10th, 2020, 7:46 pmHarsin will only take that job if he is ready to move on from boise. Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
I'm sure harsin could have had the job if he wanted it. Money might be a little better, but winning in pullman is not easy. You are at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the conference and the talent level he can get at boise isnt much lower of at all compared to the type of guys wazzu can get. Better opportunities will come his way.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 10th, 2020, 10:22 pmI'm not speaking from a position of knowledge but Washington State could possibly target Bryan Harsin simply because he has so much experience and has had a TON of success recruiting in the same areas that Washington State targets.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 10th, 2020, 7:46 pmHarsin will only take that job if he is ready to move on from boise. Re: Mike Leach leaving Wazzu...
I would argue that if anything, he can get better running backs to play for him at Boise than he could at Wazzu. Wide Receivers he could get to the two schools is a different story.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 13th, 2020, 10:56 pmI'm sure harsin could have had the job if he wanted it.
