Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
Bruce Feldman is reporting that Rocky Long is stepping down as head coach. Brady Hoke is expected to be the replacement...this will be round 2 for Brady as SDSU's head coach.

Re: Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
Also, I did not realize Long was born in Provo, Utah!
If he is indeed looking for a DC job.....i'll take him over Ena anyday! Although he would probably be taken by a bigger school.

Re: Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
Rumors are that there was pressure on Rocky to make changes to his staff and he did not appreciate that. Brady Hoke is a good replacement but this might come back to bite them in the (I can't express myself without swearing).

Rocky is a defensive genious. The team that gets him as a DC will be in good shape.

I can boldly predict that after our game against San Diego State next season, there will be a discussion about someone not being the same as they were 10 years ago. Either Brady or Gary.Aggieiester wrote: ↑January 8th, 2020, 1:27 pmRumors are that there was pressure on Rocky to make changes to his staff and he did not appreciate that. Amazing. Terrible decision by sdsu. He has done incredible there. Look at what they were before him. He has done an A+ job building that program with 10 win season after 10 win season. He should have been allowed to run his program anyway he wanted.

Re: Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
Funny how he’s kind of gotten run out at New Mexico and SDSU after amazing results. Makes you wonder about his personality a bit.
Also makes you wonder if SDSU will go down the same post Long path that New Mexico did?

Re: Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
You know what's impressive? He didn't have a losing season at SDSU. Nine straight winning seasons. Crazy they didn't let him just do his thing. He had 5 winning, five losing and one. 500 year at UNM. Should tell you all you need to know about resources and location.
Go Aggies!

Re: Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
Rocky is hardly being run out of SDSU, and may not be leaving SDSU at all.
Rocky is looking to shrug off a lot of the responsibility that comes with being a head coach. He has been setting this up for at least 2 years. Rocky has been grooming Zach Arnett to run the 3-3-5 he designed, and when Brady Hoke became available he got SDSU to snap him up. He knows Hoke knows the school, knows the system, has proved that he has what it takes to win at SDSU, and knows Hoke’s wife wouldn’t let Brady take a job anywhere else if he could get Hoke and wife back to San Diego.
Rocky has said that he still loves coaching and even joked that he may offer to help coach the High School up the street from his house. Brady Hoke’s first effort as the new SDSU head coach was immediately to try to hire Rocky Long as the Aztec’s Defensive Coordinator. Rocky has said that he will not take the DC job at SDSU out of loyalty to Zach Arnett, the heir apparent he’s designated for that role.
Immediately after Rocky announced his retirement both UCLA and USC contacted Zach Arnett to come up and interview. Rocky Long has said that if Zach Arnett is hired away then he will come back to SDSU to be the Aztec’s Defensive Coordinator until he can coach up another heir apparent.

Every team should have a coach as committed to their school as Rocky is to SDSU.

Re: Rocky Long Stepping Down at SDSU
My guess is that Rocky Long will be Leach's D Coord at MSU.
Leach has long admired Long's voodoo defense and has tried to hire him a couple of times.
