Rick Pitino was available

when we hired Smith. I don't think he would have tolerated the poor play the last three games.

This is a joke, right? He would have been up late with the team in Vegas partying with the hookers on New Years.

You have a case for the UNLV game turning out the same way under Pitino. But sure as heck NOT Air Force!

Partying with hookers or not.

I want these Aggies to win. If they are doing it then so should we.

If they go and get grad transfer players then so can the Aggies.

If they cheat then we do to.

Tired of the same old Aggies year in and year out.

I expected a lot of things after this loss, but a “we shoulda hired Rick Pitino” thread was not one of them.

Smith is an excellent coach. I think he sucks at using timeouts and should have recruited a JC or grad transfer guard last year, but I have nothing else negative to say about him. We are lucky to have him.

1-You think Coach Smith “tolerates” poor play?
2-You would want the biggest slimeball in college basketball for a coach?

Come on, man.

Pitino was available...hang on, let me find that $10m dollars that was laying around the AD's office collecting dust.

The 10 mil wouldn't have been collecting dust with Pitino at the helm, he would have used that to buy himself a recruiting class full of McDonald's All-Americans

I think I would rather be a .500 team than have that sleazy bastard as our coach.

Coach Smith is a great coach with tons of passion and energy, I'll take him over Slick Rick any day. Can you imagine him in Cache Valley?

That depends on Calipari's "recruiting slush fund". I'm sure it gets bumped up each year. You know how competitive those pesky bidding wars for eighth graders can get.

Smith is a great coach. Things happen and the team is in a slump right now. There have been many teams through the years that were expected to be great and then have laid an egg. I’m not saying this is fine and there are no problems, but we would need to do a lot more screwing up before we start questioning coach Smith. Just remember last year for crying out loud.

I would be in favor of starting a new forum where ridiculous threads can be quarantined. I volunteer to be the ridiculous police to decide which threads should be sent there. Or perhaps there could be a button that forum members could push to vote to banish ridiculous threads to that forum, and when that button is pushed by enough members (say, 20?), then the entire thread ends up in that forum. I would suggest calling the forum the "Tann Tueller Memorial Forum."

I enjoy all the views expressed here from the inane to the informational, to the churro jokes. No need to regulate fandom or views, but this is one of the more out there threads.

I never want a slime ball as a coach. If that means we never maximize potential I don't care. I want a coach that does things the right way which I believe Smith does.

I assume the op is joking, but I'll respond anyway. Smith has been amazing at usu even with the 3 game slide. Last year was a dream year where we did things maybe even the team didn't think were possible. This year we are still 13-5 with 2 wins over the sec. It is not popular to say this right now, but I still believe we can have a good year.

Come on, Hawaii. You've been around long enough to know that GameFAQs never jokes.

As for whether we can still have a good year, I agree with you. Given what Smith accomplished last year, I'm not about to give up hope -- but my once sky-high expectations are now a little more realistic.

Yeah expectations have to be tempered. I say "good year" not incredible historic once in a lifetime season like I thought and others did when the year began. Even two weeks ago when we beat florida no way would I have thought we would follow it up with losses to air force and unlv.

Rick pitino had a 4 year stretch where he went 0-30 since all his wins were vacated. Donovan Mitchell didnt get to play in the ncaa tournament his first year because of sanctions. He makes larry eustachey look like a choir boy.

I hope that integrity will always matter with Aggie athletics. I hope we never get into the arms race of cheating. Yep, other places do. Not all other places do. We might get a short-term benefit, but will absolutely lose in the long term if we cross into that mess.

We have a pretty good “year in year out” record. If we can win a MW Championship like we did JUST LAST YEAR I’d be fine with the same old Aggies.
