Predictions vs #1 SDSU this saturday? 1/4/20

Post by SDSU » December 31st, 2019, 7:37 am

My predictions

SDSU 80
USU 66

Won't really be a blowout because it's a home game for the Aggies. Sucks Queta isn't playing because i was wondering how he would do against Wetzel(our new 6'11 big man from Vanderbilt who has been dominating so far).

USU needs to win this but unfortunately, i don't see it. Flynn should get 25-30 points this game. Just a terrible matchup for the aggies.

Queta isn't playing? That's news to me.

Wetzel, you mean the guy who couldn’t cut it in the sec and averaged 5 pts last year. You are just silly.

I predict that USU will win. Kuba is back and the Aggies are undefeated when Kuba plays. I can't wait to see Neemy AND Kuba playing in the same game. The game is in Logan. Under Coach Smith we've only lost one game in the Spectrum and it definitely wasn't to SDSU.

And here I though Gonzaga was #1. Delusional thinking is just more evidence this a$$touch is really just a poorly disguised BYU fan.

SDSU is #1 in the NET which is the metric that the NCAA Tournament committee uses. Hopefully we knock them down a few spots.

They are also #1 in the conference right now but since the distinction as to which #1 wasn’t made I tried to have some fun at the troll’s expense......

exactly and it's the ONLY metric that matter. SDSU is the #1 team in the country. The same way the CFP ranking is the only ranking that matter when selecting the 4 CFP spots.

SDSU is the best team in the country as of right now.

It is the main metric that they use but it isn't the only one that matters. The committee has a Team Sheet for each team that also includes BPI, KenPom and Sagarin for each team along with other data points.

umm what? NET ranking is the ranking that matter and yes, we are #1. There's no "distinction"because if selection sunday was today, SDSU will be the #1 OVERALL seed.

There is absolutely no chance that SDSU ends up with the #1 overall seed. There is no way that you guys are still #1 come selection Sunday.

sorry bud, 2019, they primarily go by NET ranking now. Whoever is in that #1 spot, is the TRUE #1 team in the country and will get the #1 overall seed in the big dance.

I believe Wichita State who had Fred VanVleet a few years ago went 30-0 and were given a 2 seed. They eventually lost in the second round or something, but goes to show how unlikely it is a mid major is given a #1 seed (except maybe Gonzaga). Even an undefeated Aztec team would probably not get a #1 seed from the weakness of the MWC schedule compared to say an ACC schedule. Plus I doubt Aztecs go undefeated....they will drop a few most likely.

Unless one of those power 5 teams manages to go on a ridiculous run (19-1 and win their Conf. tournament), sdsu will get the #1 overall seed. There's just less margin for error for the aztecs. more than 2 losses or a loss to a sub .500 MWC team will drop us to a lower #1 seed or a high #2 seed

a 2 loss SDSU team will still get the #1 overall seed. (presuming those 2 losses are against UNM or utah st). if a 2 loss SDSU team doesn't get it, they will still get a #1 seed(just not the #1 overall seed like they have it now)

different criterias now bud. They go to NET now, and SDSU is #1

the wichita st team went 34-0 and got the 3rd #1 seed(however, their NET wasn't good compared to SDSU). The team that beat them got to the championship game

either way, SDSU will get a #1 seed in the ncaa tournament. Maybe not the #1 overall(since there's less margin of error for non power 5 schools), but a #1 seed nontheless

While building Bracketologists we did a ton of research on how all of this stuff actually works. The NCAA is very open on everything except for the NET formula. You can see their selection process here:
http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/med ... selections

That is direct from the NCAA and has links to the team sheets that the committee uses. NET is a big part of it but if NET was all that mattered then you could look at the Bracket we have on Bracketologists before the NCAA Selection Special and know exactly what it's going to look like. While we'll probably have 95% of the teams correct, we will miss on some and the seeds will also vary from what we have because that's just the way things work. If NET was all that mattered you wouldn't even need a committee. You could just have software create the bracket (as we did).

As far as SDSU staying #1, the problem that you face now is that you've already gone through the toughest portion of your schedule while other teams still have games to play. You have 2 Quad 1 games left and 4 Quad 2 games. Kansas has 8 of each. Ohio State has 9 and 6. OOC is when mid-majors have their chance to shine and conference play is when the power teams come in and take over because they don't have any sub-200 teams left on their schedule to drag them down.

No way they give a 2 loss SDSU the #1 overall seed. If the losses were regular season and you won the MWC, I could see a #2 seed, but if one of the losses was in the MWC tourney, you guys would most likely get a #3-4 seed.

NET replaces the RPI, you are correct SDSU but it isn’t the end all be all for selecting teams. It is just one tool. Even if SDSU wins all their remaining games, they will no longer be the #1 NET team. If SDSU has 2 losses, they won’t even be a 1 or 2 seed. I could see a 3-4 seed though depending on who they lost to. Even a single loss will drop them back pretty far. As was said previously, all the power schools now get to play Q1/Q2 the rest of the way while SDSU will play almost all Q3/Q4 games.

So after Saturday, we will see SDSU drop from NET #1 to NET #20 and USU will jump up to NET~30-35. In the AP, SDSU will drop from #13 to #19 and USU will jump back into the rankings at #22-#24. SDSU will then be in pretty much the same position as USU. then we can be done with all this ridiculousness. Haha.

Come on, guys. He's not stupid. He obviously knows the NET isn't the only criteria. He's just being obstinate and impervious to facts because he's a troll. And if it were just as simple as him being stupid, then facts still wouldn't change his mind because he's an ignoramus.

It's simple: there's a vacant spot under a bridge somewhere because he's wandered over here. Leave your retorts and your responses for the real fans of other teams, like Al-O-meter or nvspuds.

https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-me ... ll-ranking

yes it did replace the RPI, but it didn't follow how the RPI worked. NET covers a more broad spectrum that is DIRECTLY the reason why teams get an at-large bid.

NET is made by the NCAA, the actual committee that determine who gets an at-large bid. Sure, they may use a 3rd party source but NET is by far what they will use to determine who gets the best seeding and who gets an at-large bid.

So if I was a USU fan, i wouldn't even bother looking at other sources outside of your net ranking because that literally holds 99% relevance.

btw, RPI was useless. SDSU was #28 in RPI and didn't get an at-large bid in 2015. And Utah St was ranked #22 in coaches/ap poll; and didn't get an at-large bid

then again, the NCAA implemented this rule VERY VERY recently. Lets just wait on selection sunday if they follow what they said they would. By going on NET ranking as their primary deciding factor

sorry bud, 2019, they primarily go by NET ranking now. Whoever is in that #1 spot, is the TRUE #1 team in the country and will get the #1 overall seed in the big dance.

OOC is when mid-majors have their chance to shine and conference play is when the power teams come in and take over because they don't have any sub-200 teams left on their schedule to drag them down.
wrong because you're only going by quality wins. You aren't factoring win %, HOME game win(which counts way less than a road or neutral game win).

a power 5 team would literally have to run the table(or close to it) and win their conf. tournament to outrank SDSU in NET. So if a power 5 team doesn't go 18-2 or better, there's NO chance they are jumping SDSU regardless if they've accumulated more Q1 wins.

gonzaga for example , got the #1 seed but accumulated 3 losses prior to selection sunday

SDSU is #1 in the NET which is the metric that the NCAA Tournament committee uses. Hopefully we knock them down a few spots.
They are also #1 in the conference right now but since the distinction as to which #1 wasn’t made I tried to have some fun at the troll’s expense......

umm what? NET ranking is the ranking that matter and yes, we are #1. There's no "distinction"because if selection sunday was today, SDSU will be the #1 OVERALL seed.

https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketbal ... t-rankings
There is absolutely no chance that SDSU ends up with the #1 overall seed. There is no way that you guys are still #1 come selection Sunday.

(presuming those 2 losses are against UNM or utah st). if a 2 loss SDSU team doesn't get it, they will still get a #1 seed(just not the #1 overall seed like they have it now)
If SDSU gets a #1 seed I will wear a sign to every Aggie home game that says SDSU is my Daddy, if they don’t, you have to wear a sign that says USU is my Daddy to every SDSU home game.

You willing to go that far SDSU?

As of right now, SDSU should get the #1 overall seed . The NCAA implemented a new ranking system. so if they follow what they said they would by going by NET, SDSU should get the #1 overall seed. So lets just see if they follow up on what they've said.

People here are just wishing the ncaa will use a 3rd party source in hopes of SDSU not getting the #1 seed. Sorry guys but i'm fairly confident NCAA will use their own source to determine seeding(NET) and not from a 3rd party. In my prediction, they'll only use a 3rd party source on bubble teams. It would be extremely unfair if a team who has a higher NET ranking get a lower seeding because other 3rd party sources favor another team with a lower net ranking.

Lets just wait until selection sunday to see if the NCAA actually follow up on what they promised, that they'll use NET to determine seeding. This new rule has been implemented very recently.

I know you probably weren’t paying attention to this last season since SDSU was nowhere near a tournament team then, but the NET was around last year too. The committee did follow it pretty well in seeding teams.

What you’re missing here though is even if you were to
go undefeated, there’s no chance you’ll still be #1 in the NET. You’re gonna get leapfrogged by multiple P5 schools who are going to roll up marquee win after marquee win from here on out.

That’s not to say SDSU isn’t a good team, but I think if you went undefeated your best case is ending up in the 10-15 range in the NET.
