Re: Christian LaValle
feel bad for the kid. Do not understand the decision to put him at DT, but again, I've never coached and prolly don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Makes sense. If I'm in his shoes I do the same thing. A 3 star lb recruit that sees the ineptitude of Ena. Wish him well.

Wish him all the luck in the world. Too bad we couldn't find a position that worked for both parties.

Yeah, no room in Ena's scheme for a three star LB recruit.

Ena told him he wasn’t tall enough to play LB.
What a joke. If this kid ends up a successful LB for Texas Tech it will quite the indictment of Ena.

So we know why he left , or is this just speculation ? Maybe he did not like Logan, or USU or Snow, maybe a chance to play P-5
football in the B-12 ? Hell of a lot of reasons a kid would transfer.

He loved Logan & USU and really wanted to stay. But he was not going to be given a chance to play Linebacker and playing LB in college is what he wants to do so he had to make a decision to go elsewhere.

Lets all keep in mind that no kid will tell a booster that he does not like USU or Logan. Source level:5 two sided. Let me just say that a few years ago a football player said on the radio interview, how much he enjoyed going to school however told a female relative of mine who he dated how much he disliked it here.

Why is it hard for you to understand that someone may not like Logan, USU and the culture here ? Not everyone does. I have no idea if this kid liked it here or not but it is possible he did not. I can tell you I have know quite a few folks that did not, some were football players.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 29th, 2019, 5:00 pmThe kid chose usu and Logan over other really solid offers. You’re the one disputing the information I’m putting out that I’m very confident in. I’m not the one trying to say everyone likes Usu. I’m just stating Lavell did.oleblu111 wrote: ↑December 29th, 2019, 5:09 pmWhy is it hard for you to understand that someone may not like Logan, USU and the culture here ? Not everyone does. I was a scholarship athlete at usu. I’m well aware of the dynamic that exists and how Logan may not be for some athletes.

Don't buy it. There is more to the story. He is essentially the same height as our starters.

Re: Christian LaValle
Thank you for saying so. I am really biting my tongue on this one to not go further (as I'm sure you are too) but suffice to say that this is a kid that chose to be an Aggie and loved USU so much so that he didn't initially follow coach Patterson when he left to TTU when he easily could have.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 29th, 2019, 4:02 pmHe loved Logan & USU and really wanted to stay. I'm obviously not in practice every day to see performance or attitude nor am I paid to make player evaluations or decisions but in the limited game opportunities where we have seen LaValle it is hard to understand how he wouldn't be given a chance to see what he can do at LB - especially on this year's defense. This and several other personnel and scheme decisions certainly add up to an indictment on the staff's ability to evaluate talent and skill and/or how to use it to the team's advantage.
I'm rooting for the coaches and players to get better next season.

Someone told a female relative who told you that this unnamed football player disliked Logan? But as you said you have no idea. So what are you arguing about.oleblu111 wrote: ↑December 29th, 2019, 5:09 pmWhy is it hard for you to understand that someone may not like Logan, USU and the culture here ? Not everyone does. Yes tons of people dislike Logan. I hated Logan every early January. You know it's bad when you look at the 10 day forecast and think "wow! It'll get up to 19 degrees!". For those of us who didn't grow up in Logan weather, we all consider transferring at some point specifically because of weather. (some more seriously than others)
The main issue I cant wrap my head around of why someone would leave Logan to go to Lubbock "for culture" is what kind of culture are you leaving and expecting? Some seem to think "if only Logan had more nightlife things would be different".... if that is really what Lavalle wanted there are better choices than Lubbock. Lavalle certainly isn't going to Lubbock to compete for a conference championship.
To me the most likely reason he chose Texas Tech is because he liked Patterson. He's from Mission Viejo. He easily could have gone closer to home, but chose to go to Lubbock.
Lavalle is a hoss. What he put his body through to gain the weight to play DT takes crazy dedication. It's going to suck going through the cut too.
Re: Christian LaValle
The guy will be on his third school with this move. Haven't heard much about his performance and impact? Doesn't matter how many stars are next to your name. You have to earn the job.

Re: Christian LaValle
He’s not leaving Logan because he doesn’t like it here, he still loves USU. This is a business decision for him to play where he is wanted and can play the position he feels is best for him. I wish him success.

Re: Christian LaValle
He wants to play LB instead of putting on 60 lbs and moving to DT.
Can't say I blame him
If he ends up playing something other than LB at Texas Tech, I'll raise an eyebrow. Until then, I see nothing to get excited about.

Re: Christian LaValle
So while we get run off the field by MAC schools, we also run off one of the best signees in our history because he doesn't fit scheme. So what happened to fitting scheme to personnel and recruiting LB's over DL's because we can never get the depth on the DL as a G5? Seems like two important philosophies that were inarguably the two most important factors in our rise out of the cellar have been ignored.

Re: Christian LaValle
Before posting that "we run off", what else do you know about his performance once he got to Logan other then he had 3 stars? What about off the field? Attitude? This board is quick to jump to negative conclusions and infer this was only because he was moved to dline. Maybe the move was an opportunity to get playing time and defensive line was weak If Lavalle was playing well as a linebacker they would not have moved him. They needed help on the line. There is more to the story. I hope he does well at TT but if he didn't impress here, he faces stiffer competition where he is going.

Re: Christian LaValle
We know from his special teams play that he had the ability. We can draw some pretty firm inferences from that. We also saw the staff scrape the bottom of the barrel in an attempt to find someone who could tackle at LB. That failed, yet Lavalle's name was never called, despite being one of our top recruits ever. I'm comfortable inferring that if a position your team is getting smoke-checked at doesn't have any use for you despite evidence to the contrary, it's going to piss you off. It's how anybody in any profession should feel if they're at all worth a damn. And yet we caused him to walk.7879usu wrote: ↑December 29th, 2019, 10:19 pmBefore posting that "we run off", what else do you know about his performance once he got to Logan other then he had 3 stars? Re: Christian LaValle
It’s best to leave this one alone. He is doing what’s best for him and is best to just wish him luck and move on.
I can guarantee this has nothing at all to do with Wells, other than he is going where the coaches that believed in his abilities are. He sought them out and not the other way around.
This kid shut his mouth, did everything the coaches here asked him to do, and the move to DL just didn’t make any sense for him and didn’t work out. He tried. He is not bitter about Utah State and doesn’t hate Logan. He just feels like his best shot at becoming the player he feels he can be comes in Lubbock instead of Logan.
