"Two future WAC members will face USU in Denver and Seattle. The Aggies host the Pioneers in late November, while traveling to Seattle and also hosting the Redhawks."
does that mean we play them home and away?

The schedule page has been updated. We had almost everything on the schedule except for times and dates.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
I think the OOC portion of the schedule looks very good and sets up some good return matchups in the Spectrum in coming years (Miss. St., Pacific, USC, etc.). I think Stew and Barnes are working hard to improve our OOC lineup.
As for what Shawn said about 2 more games to be scheduled, I think he's got the whole schedule released in the article. USU only gets 28 games, plus 1 for going to Hawaii, plus 2 more for the exempt Gossners which equals 31 (the same as the last several years). And Shawn listed 31 games not counting the 2 exhibition games to start. I bellieve that's it.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
That's my first impression as well. I think that overall this is a more competitive schedule than we've traditionally seen. It's not the big jump a lot of others have been pining for, but it's steady improvement (and it's hard to complain about that). I applaud both Stew and Barnes on this. I hope they're able to keep this going.USUBlue wrote:I think the OOC portion of the schedule looks very good and sets up some good return matchups in the Spectrum in coming years (Miss. Still, I'm making the following predictions right now for late-February / early-March:
1) USU will have a Top 20 RPI
2) USU will be ranked in the Top 30 but not Top 25
3) The "experts" will be talking about our weak SOS
4) We don't pass the eye test because we don't play as many "Top 6" opponents as teams from the Big East, SEC, ACC, Big 10/12, Big 12/10, or PAC-10/12 do

I thought we were supposed to get a return game for bracketbusters... Like isn't St. Mary's supposed to come to Logan? Thats so weird, I didn't see them on the schedule, and for some reason I thought that the previous years home teams were supposed to give a return game the next year... hmm

For the past 2 years? now, the home team (St. Mary's in this case) has two years to return the game (in Logan in this case). Looks like St. Mary's has chosen to come to Logan not this upcoming season, but the next.

There's a lot of tough away games this year. How about that 4 game stretch during conference play on the road?
This sets up well for future years too.

last 2 years is correct - remember we didn't return the Wichita State BB game last year - but are playing them this year. . . .AggieAthletics wrote:Imakeitrain wrote:I thought we were supposed to get a return game for bracketbusters... On a Saturday - looks like a weekend trip from neIowa to Kansas may be coming up in December.
Wichita is 560 miles - about 9 hours including gas/potty stops maybe I'll take the whole family (pending HS wrestling, MS girls b-ball scheduling) - Are times on the schedule link above MST? or Local?

You know, I would be surprised if we don't see the Aggies play @ Kent St.
I mean, I have a hard time believing that Kent St. is coming to play in our little tournament without a return game of some kind.
If we don't return a game, are we giving them cash? How does the Gossner's work?

All times on the schedule are MST. I've contemplated having them show up with local time zones but I've decided that I hate programatically dealing with time zones probably more than anything else I've ever encountered in this profession.AGinNEIowa wrote:last 2 years is correct - remember we didn't return the Wichita State BB game last year - but are playing them this year. . . .AggieAthletics wrote:Imakeitrain wrote:I thought we were supposed to get a return game for bracketbusters... All of the Gossner invitees are paid. In my mind I've always thought it was around 20k each, but I could be completely off with that number.brownjeans wrote:You know, I would be surprised if we don't see the Aggies play @ Kent St.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
The schedule is improved which is great. I only see a few games on there that make me go why are we playing them. I don't like playing suu and uvu but understand why we do it. But we did add MSU. That plus BYU Kent St and Whicha St shows somes quality if we get a good draw in the bracket buster then it goes from good to very good. Great job by Stew and Barnes to stepping things up.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
The only one that leaves me scratching my head is Montana Tech. We apparently scheduled them to take over the mid-season cupcake slot for us. HOWEVER, I would much rather play Montana Tech than Cal State Bakersfield in that slot. They are not a D1 team, and will not be counted against our RPI at all. Every time we met CSB they pulled down our RPI and SOS regardless of outcome. Actually, given that reasoning, I really like the addition. Stew gets to use the game to tweak whatever he needs to tweak with no threat of losing the game, and we don't take a hit in the RPI. Basically a mid-season exhibition game.brian5562 wrote:The schedule is improved which is great. I only see a few games on there that make me go why are we playing them. By the way, if the past can predict the future we will beat Montana Tech by SIXTY points this year. Check it out.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
The only one that really has me scratching my head is that we are playing Texas A&M Corpus Christi on the road. Maybe it's the start of a home and home but I don't really see the purpose in that game. The UVU and SUU games make more sense since they are local teams and when we do have to travel there it's just a bus ride down I-15. The TAMCC game doesn't have that.brian5562 wrote:The schedule is improved which is great. I only see a few games on there that make me go why are we playing them. Re: USU B-ball schedule released
Our worst RPI drags this year will probably be Seattle (wice), Texas A&M-CC, and Idaho St. At least 3 of those 4 are on the road. Seattle was sub 300 RPI last year, but should be better this year, as they return most of their best players, and they had 2 freshmen really contribute last year. Idaho St. will probably be even worse, as they lost 3 of their top 4 scorers, and don't really have anyone good to step in. Corpus Christi might be worse, too, as they lose a bunch of scoring and rebounding. We'll see.

We played Montana Western as a lead-in to the Bracket Buster last year and then we beat St. Mary's. Stew's said he's superstitious and likes repeating the same crazy crap for as long as it keeps working. I guess we should get used to playing a non-D1 team from Montana in a pre-BB game for a while.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
As much as we have Stew and Barnes to thank for this improvement in schedule, we can also thank the 6 seniors that graduated. I think a big reason people are willing to play us in the next two years is because of our youth and inexperience. You can also thank the retirements of Fafner and Wild Bill for making teams more willing to come to the Spectrum.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
quick thoughts-
-ISU, UVU, and SUU are givens... although I don't like them on our schedule, at this point, it would be a surprise NOT to see them on there.
- I have no problem with TA&M-CC on the schedule. Aside from the past couple of seasons, they have been one of the better programs out of the Southland Conference.
- I also don't have a problem with UTA, Denver, or Seattle on the schedule(in fact, I'm glad they're there), although the Seattle game has 'TRAP' written all over it, being just two days before our showdown with Idaho in Moscow, so there is 'potential' for a giant letdown that weekend and two road losses.
- Too bad we can't get St. Peter's, version '10-'11 instead
- Kent St and Wichita St will be top 75, or even top 50 rpi, by seasons end.
- Pacific... 'nuff said.
- Gotta admit, I'm shocked that a BCS team agreed to a two-fer with us. I really didn't think it was going to happen. I really want to know who gets the credit for scheduling this one- Stew, Scott, or both? New Year's Eve at noon... pretty sure this one will be on ESPN2 or ESPNU(Meineke Car Care Bowl already has the ESPN slot taken on NYE)
- Lastly, I LOVE the stretch of five straight home games, in which our guys get to stay within the confines of the Spectrum for almost an entire month. I'll take that anytime, but especially heading towards the home stretch...absolutely perfect.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
I was surprised as well. I was excited to see the Georgetown game on the schedule last year and I think Stew did it because it was nationally televised (he's said in the past that one-and-done's are possibilities if they are nationally televised against a powerhouse team). If we get one or more of the Mississippi State games nationally televised that's just icing on the cake! Definitely worth 2-for-1 at that point. Even without the TV aspect, I'd rather have 2-for-1 than 1-and-done any day. I hope we can build on this and continue to make these types of deals happen.AGGZILLA wrote: - Gotta admit, I'm shocked that a BCS team agreed to a two-fer with us. Makes you go Hmmmmmmm?
A UNR fan notes this on the Nevada Board about USU's schedule:
This just proves that Stu has depended on teams like Nevada and NMSU to pull up their garbage non-con schedule. Let other teams play (and win) tough games so you can ride their coat tails by having a good student section, winning at home, and nearly always guarantee a .500 conference slate. Yeah, that's chicken S#!t if you ask me. They have been nothing but dead weight to the WAC RPI since they joined it. How else do you always have 23 wins or more, but still have an RPI that hangs out in the 70s?
The only team I have less respect for schedule-wise is Syracuse. Sometimes they never even leave the confines of MSG before the conference season starts.
USU has relied on NMS and Nevada to pull up the confence's RPI? Conference dead weight? I almost thought this fellow was being tongue-in-cheek until his last couple of statements.
I previously have bantered on the Nevada board but have long since forgotten my password to be able to log in and respond. But I doubt there's any way to have a rational conversation with someone like this. Rationality is clearly not his long suit.

I previously have bantered on the Nevada board but have long since forgotten my password to be able to log in and respond. But I doubt there's any way to have a rational conversation with someone like this. Rationality is clearly not his long suit.

Re: USU B-ball schedule released
I used to really enjoy Nevada fans and would post on their message board often. But ever since we knocked them off their throne and started dominating them in basketball they have become unbearable. Our RPI hangs around the 70's? I guess they are stupid, as well. They are a bunch of crying babies who got their feelings hurt when we dropped the Winning team Losing team chant on their broken backs on their own floor. I don't waste my time with them anymore. You can't have a rational conversation with them.
