Breakdown
Great
Anderson-Bean-Queta trio is amazing.
Merrill did well.
Porter and Brito were clutch.
Bad
Miller and Brito are still in a slump.
Our FT shooting was below average.
MUCH Worse
The Houston Rockets could and should be sued if anyone gets hurt on the thousand wet spots. It was a joke that no team could play at the regular point guard spot because of wet spots.
The ESPN3 coverage was terrible from having wrong numbers on the screen regularly, mispronouncing Merrill’s name, and incorrect stats on Queta.
The Refs clearly wanted South Florida to win badly, and they called many bad calls against us which led to us losing Merrill and Queta in the game due to fouls. 25 of about “1000” (it felt like that) were called on South Florida. Sometimes we had to draw like 4 fouls in one play to get one foul. We had a joke “jump ball” called. Queta’s physical play beat South Florida. South Florida was never got called for clear flops throughout the game.

Re: Breakdown
I agree with most of this except the ref part. I wish we could get away from blaming the refs so much. If they wanted USF to win they clearly would’ve called a foul on Bean instead of charge on USF at the end of OT. It was the right call for sure, but would’ve been easy to call the other way if they wanted to.

^^^^^ blaming the refs is an annoying habit here.
I’ve worked my 11 year old out of it so I think grown men should be able to do the same.

Re: Breakdown
I am getting tired of joke refs that have some stupid beef against us. Some bad calls on both sides are fine, but it is bad when the refs have different rules for different sides. I lost count on no contact fouls against us, and us drawing so many fouls and have a small fraction called.tetonaggie wrote: ↑December 18th, 2019, 9:01 pmI agree with most of this except the ref part. Re: Breakdown
Are you serious that you really think that the refs wanted USF to win? I get so tired of that crap. I would love for people that go there to put on a striped shirt and ref a college bb game.

Re: Breakdown
If I did, I would make mistakes (maybe a lot) and be neutral. I always want a fair game for who the heck played in the game since I believe in honor and respect.

Re: Breakdown
I have also noticed really bad calls on key players against us which is getting really old over the last few big games.

Re: Breakdown
I watched the game, and I was really disappointed in the refs. I want a honest and neutral game in one of big games. The tournament with North Texas/LSU had refs make a lot mistakes which cause confusion, but they were neutral which is fine.Bank Shot wrote: ↑December 18th, 2019, 9:18 pmYea...you would make a lot of mistakes and fan forums on both sides would be ripping you for your lack of honor and respect.

Re: Breakdown
I think the bigger problem is the number of fouls being called overall, I hate it, and likely it will one day drive me away from watching college basketball. Certain players thrive, Haws, Delavidova, sam (sometimes with his frequent flops with layups, which he has decreased the last few games).

Re: Breakdown
I'm never going to go after someone for shooting poorly (Miller). But a players effort is fair game imo. Brito's effort, particularly defensively, was abysmal. Hope he gets it turned around.

Re: Breakdown
Usually Britto brings it defensively but I noticed this as well. He didn't close out well tonight and he didn't hustle back when they stole the ball from Merril. It took Porter busting his (I can't express myself without swearing) to prevent the layup and send them to the line.

Re: Breakdown
Refs were mediocre, but we got the benefit of a bad call or two as well. The kick call at the end was a bad call and went in our favor for example.
I hate blaming the refs. They aren't biased. You are. You have your blue goggles on.

Re: Breakdown
Just curious, why do you think it was a bad call? I couldn’t see it very well even with the replay but it definitely looked like a kicking motion and the rule is if the ball hits any part of the leg during a kicking motion it counts as a kick. If it is inadvertent and it hits the foot or leg, it should not be a penalty.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑December 18th, 2019, 10:15 pmRefs were mediocre, but we got the benefit of a bad call or two as well. Re: Breakdown
That was one of the clearest charges you can have. Clearly not in the restricted zone, clearly had his position set, and the offensive player was charging in and out of control the last 3-4 plays. Calling that a foul on Bean would have been a crazy bad call. You could probably pick a lot of other plays during rebounds or defending a man driving to call a penalty but the Bean charge is not a good example.tetonaggie wrote:I agree with most of this except the ref part. Re: Breakdown
There was the call when the USF player threw the ball out of bounds and it hit the ref who called it out of bounds on USU. That one was painful to watch.

Re: Breakdown
Interesting to see that USF had more fouls than us in the end.
Usually there are head scratching calls in all games.
Did someone say they noticed Merrill adjust to non calls more in last few games? If so that's good. Adapt to what is being given

Re: Breakdown
Stuff like that happen throughout the game. Bean also got called for traveling when he had the ball and slipped on a wet spot, and the next play with a South Florida player doing the same thing gets a free pass because a wet spot. The whole game was like that with fouls, traveling, and etc., so yeah I went on a bit of a justified rant. I would also point out that about half of our fouls against us fell in two in two categories extremely bad calls and player made no contact with the opposing player (usually a wet spot got a South Florida player in this case) or just very lame foul of very little contact (Anderson for instance got called on a fast break when his shoulder touched a South Florida layup). If both sides were under the same rules as the fouls were called against us, we would have had very lame game in that South Florida would had to quit from a lack of players left in the game.NAggsty Butler wrote: ↑December 19th, 2019, 4:33 amThere was the call when the USF player threw the ball out of bounds and it hit the ref who called it out of bounds on USU. That guy discounting the most clutch play of the game by Porter. Porter saw what was happening and on purpose got a kick ball to kill the clock and gave us the last shot. Re: Breakdown
A lot of TOs in the game were due to wet spots. Both teams deserve a ton of slack on the TOs. It would have not much different if the game was on an ice rink.
Re: Breakdown
Went back and looked at the box score and Miller and Brito combined in 61 minutes played had 3 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists (Brito only had one rebound). They also had 4 turnovers between them. This is obvious, but we've got to have more contributions at those spots.

So who in here ate the refs lunch? Or are we telling them your momma's so ugly jokes? Is someone hitting on their sisters? Them refs are so biased that I'm sure someone here stole their girl when they were 7th grade.
We also need to launch an investigation on who is putting this wet sports right where are players will be running

Re: Breakdown
Since LSU from 3 (no including the one scrimmage game)
Sam 32%-shot great last night so hopefully a trend in the right direction
Britto 18% including 0 for his last 7
Miller 20%
Anderson 29%
Porter 46% including going 5 of 9 over the last two games.
Maybe Porter needs to shoot more as he has the least attempts out of the 5 listed. If Britto or Miller can find their shot the offense because so much better. If both of them can find it we will be very tough to beat.

Re: Breakdown
South Florida was extremely aggressive forcing foul calls. I thought the refs did a great job down the stretch in calling those 2 charges and the guy fouled out. I didn't see much to complain about. Queta got a call his way down the stretch that was pretty dubious. The Aggies atypically missed a bunch of free throws down the stretch allowing the overtime.tetonaggie wrote: ↑December 18th, 2019, 9:01 pmI agree with most of this except the ref part.
