A look ahead to next season.
I understand it is very soon, but it will be interesting to see what the team will be like next year. We have a very tough schedule again next year and it will be fun to see how we will compete! Here is how I see the breakdown of the teams we play.
Toughest Games:
Washington State
@Washington
@Boise State
Tough Games:
@BYU
San Diego State
@Wyoming
Not as tough, but still:
@Colorado State
Fresno State
Air Force
@Nevada
Should win:
Southern Utah
New Mexico
Agree? Disagree?

Re: A look ahead to next season.
I think 6-6 or 7-5 would be a major accomplishment/best case scenario against that schedule. Playing BYU and two P5s the same season we are playing @ BSU is just a bit too much for a program of our stature, IMO.USUstudent13 wrote: ↑December 15th, 2019, 10:50 pmWe may be looking at another 6-6 / 7-5 type season.

Re: A look ahead to next season.
Could be, I would just like to see us be more consistent competitors for the MW title like Boise, SDSU, and Fresno. I feel like we can get there but it will take some time and good fortune.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 15th, 2019, 10:54 pmI think 6-6 or 7-5 would be a major accomplishment/best case scenario against that schedule. The offensive line will be a year older and should be improved BUT we're going to have to hit some homeruns in the grad transfer and/or JuCo transfer market.

I see at best a 6-6 year.
Looking at other teams rosters I don't see them losing that many SRs. We lose a fair amount of production on offense and defense if include Love and Woodward.

We'll go 7-5 and a lot on this board will be complaining relentlessly.

Re: A look ahead to next season.
That is a tough schedule. I wold be happy with 6/6 or 7/5. You never know how good teams are going to be especially just because they were good the year before. WYO was not supposed to be as good as they were and they turned out to be pretty solid. AF was supposed to be decent, but I don't think anybody expected them to be 10-2. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Fresno was also supposed to be better than they turned out. I have no clue how good WSU is going to be next year, but I would guess solid same with Wash and BYU.

Re: A look ahead to next season.
Ha. That schedule is brutal. Getting bowl eligible next season would be a great accomplishment.
I will add to that looking even further ahead to 2021, that's the season where things should ease up and hopefully we're ready for a run again. We would be dropping SDSU, Fresno & Nevada for Hawaii, UNLV, & SJSU and the OOC is @Washington st, North Dakota, BYU, & @NMSU.

My Very Early 2020 Observations
9/5 Washington St (first of a home-and-home). They were marginal this year (as were we), so this could be a fun game at home. Toss up
9/12 SUU This is a win
9/19 at Washington This is a loss
10/2 at BYU. Not sure what this will be. Depends on how many people BYU returns. Probably a loss in Provo
SDSU, They graduate a ton, so we should win at home.
FSU, they weren't good this year and we beat them easily on the road, so we should win again
AFA was senior laden this year. Toss-up for now till I now more about them
UNM will continue to stink, especially with new coach, so this is a win
at Wyoming, will be a dog fight. They're graduating a ton, but we always have problems in Laramie. Toss up
at CSU. We should win as they have a new coach, new offense, new everything
at Boise. As usual, a loss.
at Nevada. I still think we should beat them. Win
At this point, 6 wins, 3 sure losses, 3 toss-ups at this stage. Lets make the toss ups losses. 6-6? Oy vey iz mir! We really need this staff to make some big hits in the graduate transfer arena, as well as some folks step up among the wide receivers and TE's. I think the staff sees 2021 as their big year coming up.

Re: A look ahead to next season.
The 2021 OOC schedule is a lot more manageable. You never know how good UNLV, SJSU and HAW will be, but generally that is the easier schedule. It is hard to play to 2 P5 teams as well as BYU in the same season.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 8:41 amHa. That schedule is brutal. Re: A look ahead to next season.
I like the Wazzu series, but I also wonder if having two P5 teams, BYU, and an FCS is setting ourselves up to struggle. I like the opportunity to play some of these teams. However, I feel that having to punch above our weight for three games isn’t doing the team any favors.

Re: A look ahead to next season.
6-6 is the baseline for me for our program. Anything below that line would be a failure. 7 or 8 wins means we have had a decent season. Above 8 wins is a great season. I'm always excited for football season.

You're giving the Fighting Hawks too much credit here...Full wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 9:02 amI like the Wazzu series, but I also wonder if having two P5 teams, BYU, and an FCS is setting ourselves up to struggle. Field goal to win it does not stick in my mind as beating Fresno easily.AggiesForever wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 8:42 amMy Very Early 2020 Observations

Re: A look ahead to next season.
I'd certainly give Washington the benefit of the doubt with a win over us, but I'd think they're at least a little vulnerable. They had a poor season this past year, too, and will have a new head coach.

Re: A look ahead to next season.
Living on the graduate transfer conduit is marginal plus a guaranteed "One And Done". Aggies Forever gave me some comfort with his post of 6-6 or 7-5. That 6 or 7 win year could be about it next season barring some remarkable player and coaching staff improvements, especially seeing what D C Ena did with a wealth of returning defensive players this season.
