Re: Where will our bowl game be?
But if USU had SDSU’s schedule, it would include a game against USU. Then that parallel universe would collapse upon itself with that logical inconsistency (especially now that ties aren’t permitted) and we’d never know what could have been.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 8:47 pmI have a lot of confidence we would have also won 9 games with SDSU’s schedule.

I have to disagree, it really depends on the perception of the observer.dogie wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 11:44 pmBut if USU had SDSU’s schedule, it would include a game against USU. USU already played itself in the Blue and White Scrimmage. Good news: we won.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2019, 5:23 amI have to disagree, it really depends on the perception of the observer.dogie wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 11:44 pmBut if USU had SDSU’s schedule, it would include a game against USU. Re: Where will our bowl game be?
I will be happy for whatever bowl game we wind up with. I won't travel to Boise under any circumstances.
From a financial perspective we should hope and pray for the New Mexico or Cheese It Bowls. In this day and age, the fact that the Arizona Bowl only pays $413K is a disgrace.

Re: Where will our bowl game be?
While I have hoped for a Cheez-It bowl for a couple of years now, I find myself wishing against it this year only because of the difficulty of the opponent compared to the other options. That sounds like a cowardly outlook but outside of the first game of the season, we have yet to show up for a game when anything important was on the line. I don't think this team has the leadership on or off the field to accomplish great things which kills me to say but given our performance this year I think we only deserve to play a MAC or Sun Belt team in a bowl.
On one hand I get the fascination with the media wanting to showcase J. Love due to his NFL draft potential but on the other hand I'm not sure why when you consider his 17TD/16INT performance over 12 games. He is not playing in some exciting or explosive offense despite what TV announcers keep saying week in and week out. They have been trying to sell it all year to the viewing audience but our eyeballs see a different story.

Re: Where will our bowl game be?
For the most part I agree, but I felt like we showed up against SDSU on the road for our first win over them in football since 1967. I think the really bitter taste of our humiliating losses after that point makes one forget how good of a win that was.Aglicious wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2019, 12:20 pmWhile I have hoped for a Cheez-It bowl for a couple of years now, I find myself wishing against it this year only because of the difficulty of the opponent compared to the other options. Re: Where will our bowl game be?
The team certainly struggled against a few teams, but I would not say they did not show up in games when anything was on the line. The goal was to win the conference and while we did not do that we were 6-2 which is 3rd best out of 12 teams. I think the team showed up well against SDSU, Fresno and WYO when things were still on the line. We also beat the teams we were supposed to beat. Now the AF and Boise games were just garbage, but overall it was still a decent season.Aglicious wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2019, 12:20 pmWhile I have hoped for a Cheez-It bowl for a couple of years now, I find myself wishing against it this year only because of the difficulty of the opponent compared to the other options. I wish we could have played ybu at the beginning of the season and not have played LSU at all. I think we would have been 8-4 right now instead of 7-5.

Here's a very unpopular opinion: I'd rather play in two money games each year than one. I'd take 6-6 and an extra $1.2M (or whatever) for east side renovations.

Re: Where will our bowl game be?
With 6-6 seasons there is no reason to renovate the east side. That extra money does nothing to make USU's football team better and in the end hurts our ability to build the fan base.

Re: Where will our bowl game be?
It didn’t matter if we had lost to SDSU. what mattered most were the AFA, and Transmission Tech games. If we lost to SDSU and beat the others we would have held every tie breaker.
There is no way to spin this. We draped the bed in our two biggest games of the year. There was nothing in the line for the rest of our games. Not that they didn’t matter, but they weren’t our biggest games.

Transmission Tech?
Is that BSU?
If so, that's pretty damned hilarious.

Big12 and Pac12 are short bowl eligible teams. Even if we make the Cheese-It or Armed Forces I think we may play a G5 anyway.

We would loose money for sure at the Arizona bowl. Likely make a little at potato.

Actually, we kinda did. The Wake Forest game was the second game at their stadium. Though, I guess I don't know if we got any money from that or the 2 for 1 was just what we had to do to get them to come to Logan.UtahStizzle wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 1:45 pmWe never play in multiple money games and didnt this year either918AGG wrote:Here's a very unpopular opinion: I'd rather play in two money games each year than one. The attendance for the Wake game was 29,027. A little different than the over 100,000 for the LSU game. I wouldn't consider the Wake game a money game just because they are P5.BigBlueDart wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 1:49 pmActually, we kinda did. Re: Where will our bowl game be?
This. My understanding is that, like most conferences, all bowl payouts are divided with the rest of the conference after subtracting travel expenses. So it makes no difference what bowl game we attend. The only exception is that if we make a NY6 bowl, we get to keep half of the revenue if I'm not mistaken. (I think the MWC offered this as a carrot to Boise to convince them to ditch the Big East, but it applies to any MWC team that makes a NY6 bowl.)

Re: Where will our bowl game be?
I don't think that rule is limited to NY6 bowls. The participating team gets to keep 50% of the "take" from the bowl and the rest goes to the conference for equal distribution.StanfordAggie wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 3:25 pmThis. Of course, with these "standard" bowls, 50% of the take is probably used up on travel costs alone and likely buying out our unsold tickets as I'm sure we rarely, if ever, sell our full allotment.

I searched for the BSU/MW contract all over google and it'd been removed everywhere, except for the google result pointing to the USUFans Downloads forum. I guess I should have started there!treesap32 wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 3:39 pmI don't think that rule is limited to NY6 bowls. But yes Treesap is right, it says:
Starting with the 2013 season and thereafter, any "profit" from a member's participation in a bowl shall be distributed 50% to the participating member and 50% to all conference members, in equal shares. (This would include payments (over and above 2013 BCS expense payments all of which go to the participating team) to the MWC for sending a team to participate in "host" or "contract" bowl games as well as semifinal and championship game revenue under the proposed new BCS model.)

Re: Where will our bowl game be?
I'll have to find it again but I just read somewhere a couple of days ago that the travel expenses for each MWC bowl participant are also paid for by the conference out of the money that is paid to the conference by the bowls. Thus travel expenses are not paid by the participating team for having to travel to a more expensive bowl destination.

They are not going to match us up with a P5 team in any bowl. It appears that only Air Force and Boise will get that privilege, and they have earned it. What ever bowl we are in the matchup should be against a beatable G5 school. Either in the Cheeze-it or Armed Forces. Arizona an outside chance.Aglicious wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2019, 12:20 pmWhile I have hoped for a Cheez-It bowl for a couple of years now, I find myself wishing against it this year only because of the difficulty of the opponent compared to the other options.
