Are we the #1 team in the country?
It is a real question that some like myself are wondering.
Duke lost.
MSU lost twice.
The list goes on of teams who are disappointing the country, and we are currently down Queta (who will be back sooner than later).

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
We are the best team in Logan. The rest remains to be proven by this team.
I do not believe we are the number 1 team in the country. I hope we continue to prove we are top 15.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
Nowhere near #1. we are a good team and will be a lot better when Queta returns. This will be a really strong test on Friday especially if Porter and Merrill are not 100% with their lower leg injuries from last game. A win this Friday would just be awesome. For sure have to start off better.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
This is the perfect year to be a good mid major! Lots of good teams losing games they shouldn't and most top 25 teams are about the same. If we can beat St. Mary's, we could very well be one of the last remaining undefeated college basketball teams in the country as we can beat SJSU, Fresno, and St Katherine. Lots of teams are playing in Thanksgiving tournaments and will get a loss or two. With a healthy Queta, I think we have a case for being a top 15 team. It will take a few more big wins for me to even dream of being the #1 team! I think with Smith and the guys on this team, we have the most potential I have seen for a Utah State basketball team ever!

Watching Queta do the windmill dunk on Brito's instagram made me super hyped for Queta's return!!! I want to see him SOOOO bad on this team and how much better we play with a post presence.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
Our guard line is not athletic enough to have a chance at being a legit top 10 team. That is our weakness.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
I get that they are good. I think that’s true. I just don’t think we’re anywhere near to being the #1 team in the country. I think we’re a Top 20 team that has a chance to do something special this year. Still an enormous amount to prove before we even sniff the Top 10.SLB wrote: ↑November 26th, 2019, 10:19 pmNorth Texas is pretty good, and probably going to win the C-USA.bluegrouse wrote: ↑November 26th, 2019, 10:17 pmWe had all we could handle from North Texas. Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
This is the question of every season. Everyone has a hope that they will be able to say it at the end of the season. If we become national champs, then we can say that. Even if we are ranked #1 in the polls, we aren’t the number one team until we win it all.
If you are saying we are going to win the national championship then.. anything’s possible but not likely.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
I think it will be very difficult for USU to remain in the top 15 of the rankings throughout the season. I'll be happy if "we" make the Dance, excited if we win a game in the Dance, and ecstatic if we win more than 1. Long season with lots of unknowns so hopefully our players can stay/get healthy and play to their potential.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
This question is very BYU. Can't think of a better way to say it.
We are obviously a good team. But thinking we are #1 at this point? Waaaaay too BYU.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
If anything, I think we may be a little too highly ranked right now. I think we have a nice team, but I’d think our ceiling is Sweet 16, floor is NIT, and expectation is Round of 32. I think we’re somewhere in the 20-40 range.
My guess is we will end up somewhere between a 5 and 11 seed depending on outcomes of games with SMC, BYU, and Florida and if we can avoid bad losses.

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
I think we can compete with whoever is the #1 team with a fully healthy squad, but obviously we aren't good enough to call ourselves #1. #15 is a fair ranking for us with Queta
March Madness is fun because the #1 team doesn't always win though. How absurd is it that the National Champions last year were knocked out by a 16 seed just the year before?

Re: Are we the #1 team in the country?
I agree with the sentiment that it will be difficult to maintain a top status the entire season (although I do think we can finish in the top 15- even if we briefly go lower)-
His article basically assumes we are going to lose instead of just doing journalism or editorializing to your audience. "While it lasts" is true- but the connotation is that we are going to lose soon.
I hate to rag on one of 22's colleagues in the valley and I'm sure "Shawn" is a nice guy but from a few of the articles I've read he seems to keep taking backhanded swings at USU basketball. But I am glad he isn't going to "beat against these Aggies" (he misspelled bet as beat and it's been up for nearly 24 hours).
I know the Herald Journal has been struggling, but come on, they're gonna give headlines to us like "An emotional letdown is expected Sunday afternoon when the Aggie men’s basketball team takes the court."
I dont know that guy- but if I were in the AD I would not give my exclusives to him or be a source to him.

Not my colleague. If we can get out of Moraga with a win on Friday having San Jose coming up would be a perfect chance to rest the walking wounded. Play them if necessary, against Fresno State and sit them again against St. Katherine.

Perhaps we should have a separate forum for threads like this. I don't like having lurkers thinking Aggie fans are completely delusional.

And as far as this thread, I hate so much that this is even a topic and discussion on here.
No. We aren’t the #1 team in the country. End of story. And let’s not try to put that on this team either.

I love this! That’s what makes college basketball so much fun is because anything can happen! Hope is what makes the NCAA tournament so fun! Are we number one probably not are we number one in my heart for sure and I’m never gonna give up hoping for best case scenario! (Even if I have to adjust best case scenario multiple times through out a season)

Could we end up being the #1 team in the country by the end of the year?
