It is crazy how most of the headlines say "LSU basketball team faces big challenge" instead of "Utah State basketball team faces big challenge." Crazy how far we have come, but I still consider us a bit of an underdog. Until we can beat a good, athletic P5 team with this team, I will still consider us underdogs.

Good write up....

If you're looking at LSU sources then I'd expect the headlines to be exactly what you put in quotes. They are targeting LSU fans and they want to know what they are facing.

I am very pleased with how the season has went. I think we have been dominant albeit against lesser competition. Today will be the true measuring stick for me. LSU will have some of the best athletes and it will be interesting how we handle their speed. We generally struggle more against athletic teams. I certainly am confident we can win the game, but am also reserved because at this point I really don't know how good we are. I just hope we play with the tenacity on defense I know the team is capable of. We also need to hit open 3's to open up the floor.

Cool writeup, but final four? Does anyone on this USU message board even think that? I dream of that, but it sounds like this coach is taking it a bit too far.

I agree that he's being effusive here, as it benefits him regardless. They lose? Well, he indicated that we're underrated and that they held well against a high-caliber team. They win? Builds confidence and excitement in the fans and team. It's a win-win praising an opponent like this in this situation.

I would be happy and quite shocked actually if we were to win a single NCAA tourney game. Once you get the top 35-40 teams in that tourney you start to see teams with some real athletes or whole collections of athletes. I''m not convinced we can compete.

I, too, happen to think we're actually pretty limited against the really athletic teams because we are so unathletic at the guard position.

I sat and watched the St. Mary's vs. Fresno St. game and was like  . It will take a complete team effort with very few mistakes to beat either one of them. Both of those teams are stacked with some great athletes and Ford looks even better than last year. The Bulldogs just kept pulling freshman after freshman off the bench that made it look like their future is very bright.

Considering we have only 1 tournament win in the past 49 seasons, my fan bone will be utterly tickled to win a first round game. We go to the Final 4? I don't know that I could handle so much tickling... I would assuredly wet myself.

Where could one such as I find this game? Is there a videobot that they have, or did you have it recorded?

I agree that we might struggle with athletic teams, however, I think we can beat them. The Spurs have been doing it for a long time with smart guys who fit in their system in an NBA that really values athleticism. I also think Stew's teams could have beaten more athletic teams had they been able to face those teams before the tournament. We are in a position now to play against athletic teams throughout the season (UNLV, SDSU, and UNM are as athletic as any team almost every year, and Fresno, Boise, and Nevada have had some real athletes the last few years as well). I can't wait for the game, really excited to see what this team can do against some real competition.

Has it been 49 years since we won the tournament in Alaska?

I thought they looked good too. Weird difference after watching BYU Boise right before - we probably match up better with those teams.

I love coach smith but it is mind boggling to me that he didn’t feel the need to bring in an athletic juco PG to add to this team.

I love my Aggies but we definitely need a little bit more athleticism on the team. Granted this will be the best if not top three most talented team we play this. Anytime a team makes 10 three-pointers in a half it's going to be tough.

To everyone on this board I apologize for doubting this team. I have never been more proud to eat humble pie. I need to do better. How about them AGGIES that was just flat out awesome. To do it all without Queta is even more impressive. Merrill, Brito, Anderson and Bean were just awesome in the 2nd half.

The biggest take away for me in this game is that the prospective replacement for Smith was not in the chat room tonight. First off, to mess with the starting lineup and rotation of Brito and Fonz off the bench would be coaching malpractice.

I certainly am confident we can win the game, but am also reserved because at this point I really don't know how good we are. I just hope we play with the tenacity on defense I know the team is capable of. We also need to hit open 3's to open up the floor.

The season has been perfect so far. For the first 25 minutes it felt like the same old Aggie team against more athletic competition. The last 15 minutes the Aggies just flat out schooled the 4 star athletes from LSU.

When it comes down the the wire USU basketball has done surprisingly well over the last year. I’ve almost purged the memory of last years fresno game, but remember Bosie and New Mexico rather well.

I can't believe how good they are at making these odds. Unbelievable.

Cool writeup, but final four? Does anyone on this USU message board even think that? I dream of that, but it sounds like this coach is taking it a bit too far.
Yep, we are just so unathletic at the guard line we struggle against athletic teams.
I love coach smith but it is mind boggling to me that he didn’t feel the need to bring in an athletic juco PG to add to this team.
Keep being negative. It increases your life expectancy and makes life more enjoyable for you and those around you.
I still stand by my comment.
Me too. Porter was overmatched and it nearly cost us the game. Luckily LSU had just enough boneheads on their team to help us out and play hero ball until the bitter end.

Not wanting to upset the chemistry of the team by recruiting over Abel Porter may cost us a couple of games. Time will tell.

I want to say that I like Abel Porter and think he has a really high b-ball IQ. I just think another athletic guard from juco would’ve been a nice additional piece to also have for when it’s needed.
