I really wonder how the pac12 has 6 ranked teams. Cal beat north Texas at home 23-17 and they get ranked (yes I know they beat Washington). Asu beats sac state at home 19-7 earlier in the year and are ranked. I would love to face either of those teams. Neither would win the mwc in my opinion but probably on the same level as a lot of other teams in the mw.

Tons of bias. Unfortunately the perception at the start of the season of how good teams are and where they should be ranked plays a huge role in the rankings for a good chunk of the season if not the whole season.

And that perception of how good teams are and where they should be ranked comes mostly from that “P5” label

It's for this very reason that I wish there were no rankings produced or released until after Week 4. It will never happen because the media needs something to sell and the fans need something to crow or kvetch about.
