The Last Time We Played in San Diego

Post by Floppy Hat » September 17th, 2019, 10:13 am

October 23, 2015
Warning: This is hard to watch...

Three Things
- Kent Myers never seemed the same after this game...some of those hits he took were brutal
- We allowed over 330 yards of rushing...but we also turned the ball over 4 times...tough to win that way
- This game was right after our beatdown of Boise where we forced eight turnovers...there was talk of us contending for a NY6 bowl and we were riding high...it all came crashing down in San Diego...after this game we would go on to finish the regular season 2-3 with losses at New Mexico and Air Force and a disappointing game at home against BYU-P...the season ended with a sad showing in the Potato Bowl against Akron

Last time we played in San Diego we got the $hit beat out of us. It won't happen this year.

I do agree 100%, Kent Myers was NEVER the same QB after this game. It's funny how sometimes you can pinpoint a turning point in a career.

The monkey comes off of our back this year! It's already happened in BB, now it's the FB team's turn!

That was the week after we were flying high after a huge win over Boise State. We got our asses kicked bad...
Hopefully, we deal out the (I can't express myself without swearing) kicking this time. What happened to Pumphrey? I don't really follow the NFL. Who is he playing for now? Glad we won't see him again.

That was the beginning of the downturn that almost cost Coach Wells his job where we went 4-15 against FBS competition over the course of the next season and a half or so.

Felt the highest of highs after attending that beat down of Boise in Maverik. Thought that was our year for a MWC for sure. Then the lowest of lows after getting pasted by SDSU and watching all my hopes and dreams fade away into a dumpster fire of sorrow.

Pumphrey bounded around for a couple years and is out of the league now. He was too light for the NFL.

I remember Stew talking after a particularly bad game. He said some games are like turds you just flush them and forget about them. That's what I did with this game.

I think this was the hit that did him in.

There were several other big hits that game. It went downhill from there.

The high from the week prior to feeling like the depth of the ocean floor on top of you after the SDSU game. They bent us over and gave us the old 12X7. This was a painful game to watch. I really hope this team is ready to go this year because SDSU always scares me. This will be the year they break the curse. Meyers was lucky to make it out that game alive. That was a tough rest of the year. The AF and NM games were extremely painful to watch.

This trip down memory lane is the reason why I don't ever feel confident about going into SDSU and winning. I still wish I could find out what happened to that team. They did some great things and then crapped the bed the rest of the season.

Brutal. Also, I think this is the USU highlight reel ;)

This game was my wife's fault. When I put my game day shirt on for the BSU game I felt the magic. I wasn't able to watch the game because I was camping with the family, but obviously it was magic.
The next day my wife wore my game day shirt, which obviously is a major jinx. I didn't say anything to her, but I was shocked and actually worried that she was wearing it. And then the SDSU game happened.
Looking back at the schedule that year we were crazy inconsistent: barely beating SUU; destroying FSU, BSU, and WY; losing to NM and Akron (bowl); and blown out by SDSU and BYU-P.

We missed David Moala that game.

I hope you are now buying one for her every year. Can't mess with the jinx.

You should've ripped it off of her the second you saw it. You even had a valid excuse to do so.

That was a huge loss for us. Literally. I remember thinking we would have trouble stopping the run without Moala in there clogging up the middle. Turned out to be true.

I was at that game. Terrible. Moala was hurt which led SDSU being able to run on us. We started out strong in the 2nd half, scoring a TD and moving the ball then Wells decided not to go for it on 4th and 1 which signaled to the team he didn't think we could win so the team responded appropriately by not playing well the rest of the game.
