Keys To The SDSU Game

Post by Aggie84025 » September 8th, 2019, 7:42 pm

What do people think will be the keys to beating SDSU.

-I think we need to sustain drives and get up on them early. They are generally not a team that are able to come back from many scores.
-Be able to run the ball effectively and not be 1 dimensional.
-Stop their passing game and make them 1 dimensional
-On defense we have to stop the run and get off the field on 3rd down.
-We need to win the turnover battle.
-On offense we our line needs to hold their ground as they have a solid D-line.

I want the Aggies to win this game as any on the schedule. Just like in basketball they have owned us and it time to turn the tide. I am confident that GA and the coaches will have a solid game plan. They will have 2 weeks to go, hopefully the players are all dialed in to get it done. Go Aggies.

Their running game has been terrible in this early season

What did San Diego State do against UCLA to beat them?

I will go out on a limb and say with the exception of LSU and maybe Boise that the only important stat that will cause a loss is Aggie Turnovers. 3 or more and some games are probably a toss up like Wake. Otherwise, these other teams have no chance of keeping up.

I think a huge key is getting in the board early and making them chase points. That alone will throw SDSU of their game and will force them to play or style of football.

The main key to the USU-SDSU game is to score more points than they do. If that happens I can guarantee you an Aggie win.

I want to beat San Diego State more than any team we play this year, why? We have only beaten them once out of 12 games, and that was in 1967! Was that year we had Altie Taylor RB , O'Shea WR, Staley as LB and Pappas at QB? The games that we have played them since we joined the MWC, they have scored on us early and built a huge lead and that is the end of story! So, we need to score early in order to have a chance. Also, for some reason Rocky Long has had our number. When he was a New Mexico and we played them before we were in the MWC, I think he beat us 2 out of 3 games. Folks, we need to realize that unless we beat San Diego State and Boise consistently, we will never move to the next level! Boise and San Diego State came very close to going to the Big East. Boise and San Diego at that time was not in very much favor to have Utah State join the MWC. These two teams like it or not are the Flagship of the MWC. When we first joined the MWC I thought besides Boise and SDS, that we would Struggle against Air Force. We have done quite well with the Falcons, its time to do the same to boise and SDS!

I would have said that last year as well and then we played CSU and Wyoming on the road. Although for the most part I do agree with you.

Starting QB Ryan Agnew is NOT the passer that UCLA made him out to be. The Aztec running game has uncharacteristically struggled so far. If we can pressure Agnew, he'll make a couple of mistakes but most importantly he won't complete passes because he's not a super accurate dude. Not letting Agnew beat us with his arm his a big part of what needs to happen.

Early on SDSU's defense looks pretty stifling. It's hard to know just how bad UCLA's offense is so far, but SDSU certainly made them look bad. They also shut out a decent Weber State team.

SDSU has had a great defense in the past and this year looks no different.

I am very concerned with their defense they are very good and will be tough to deal with. If we struggle to get first downs and they can effectively run the ball we will be in trouble.

Two simple things.

Pressure and sacks on their q back.
Little to no pressure on Love.

Score more than 21 points and take care of the ball

I've said all we have to do is get to 27 or more points and we're in business.

I say if we can hold SDSU to less than we score, we are in a good spot.

This could be the type of game where we only manage 2 TD's (not necessarily on offense), and then our Special Teams gets us good field position a few times, but we end up settling for FG's. I'm just hoping for no major mistakes on offense, no injuries, and that when we meet their offense is still figuring things out and not clicking in the passing game.

The big thing, at least as I see it, is scoring more than SDSU. If we do that, I think we have a high probability of winning.

Wonder if he and DJ got complacent with the hype and thought they were already good and lost some of their hunger for the grind. Seems they both should have played better against SB. Following them on twitter, Tipa seemed unfocused and DJ seemed uncharacteristically cocky about his ability. I'm still assuming that DJ and Tipa and are going to light it up sooner or later. I just hope we are getting the hungry depth a shot rather than waiting for that to happen. I bet DJ lost some confidence trying to guard mariner all the time.

If the game was in Logan it would warrant a visit from Mr. Eagle feathers, Mr. Hawk claws, Shoshone beads, Bannock obsidian, for a necklace to be hung in secret spot to ward off the Aztec curse of beating us so many times. If it was in Logan.....Just sayin you know........

Not funny when first uttered before Princeton/Rutgers 150 years ago, not funny today.

The biggest key, really, is points. It will be tough to win if we don't score more points than SDSU.

Just gotta score more points than them to have a chance to win.

USU is 0-540-31 when we don’t score more points than the other team.

I think the new defense is playing a big part on why tipa isnt being noticed as much.. i noticed that against stony brook he had his hand on the turf.. he never lined up like that last year. He was farther out on the edge

Agreed. I have wondered where Tipa has been. He is on the field, but I haven't heard his name called much.

I think the new defense is playing a big part on why tipa isnt being noticed as much.. i noticed that against stony brook he had his hand on the turf.. he never lined up like that last year. He was farther out on the edge
He's still on the edge. He just has to be able to squeeze on run downs. On passing downs he can still T-up and to be honest the same principal applies in the 3-4 as to how aggressive of a pass rusher you can be. Also the TRO can take a bit of aggression out of a d-end as staying at home and disciplined is critical. Wake held that ball in the gut of the RB forever it kind of held our D-line hostage a bit because they couldn't over penetrate and then let the bowling ball of a RB get a head of steam against the backers with blockers in front. Tipa's finesse pass rush style is particularly prone to getting kicked downfield out of C gap and out of the play if he penetrates too far off the tackle.

Tipa talked about how excited he was to come out of 3 pt. Nothing is more fun as edge guy as being able to get low with ears pinned back on passing downs. I think he will have a big game next week.

Two simple things.

Pressure and sacks on their q back.
Little to no pressure on Love.

And this has got to be SUPER concerning, because we haven't put pressure on either QB in either game. :headscratch:
