Ahh. That explains everything. The dispatch from the Portuguese physicians is still en route via courier. Probably on a boat somewhere as we speak.dogie wrote: ↑July 26th, 2019, 10:27 pmBecause it was done in Portugal (according to Hartwell) and Queta won’t be back in Logan until early next week.bluegrouse wrote: ↑July 26th, 2019, 8:26 pmWow. The doctors actually put it in a bottle and threw it in the ocean. There will be some kid that finds it 75 years from now, so that is pretty cool.ChicAggie wrote: ↑July 27th, 2019, 11:12 amAhh. By that time it will be worth some good money. An MRI of the first Portuguese NBA player/mvp/all star/champion/hall of famer!

Re: What happened to Queta?
I would venture to guess that some of the hesitation in definitively stating Queta's prognosis comes from the fact that an MRI can only tell you so much. You can have very similar findings on MRI between two different people and have two very different outcomes. It's great that there are no tears but recovery time can vary widely and sometimes you just have to wait and see.
That and the fact that it can take a couple of months for a sailing ship with the doctor's note to cross the Atlantic of course.

Re: What happened to Queta?
The delay likely has to do more with complexity in privacy laws. The EU version of HIPAA is much tighter. Would also be interesting to see the healthcare agreements that exist when a player plays for Portugal, ie are the treated in a public setting or are they offered incremental private insurance. All of this, plus my guess that few physicians in Logan are skilled in navigating cross-border medical logistics, are what is likely the cause of the dearth of info.

I'm sure Coach Smith knows what he needs to know for now. That nothing has been made public doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Re: What happened to Queta?
Well Queta is from Portugal, so his native tongue is Portuguese. I'm sure he has been trying to tell the coaches the true extent of the injury, but their Portuguese is well... lacking. I'm sure Diogo knows what going on.bluegrouse wrote: ↑July 28th, 2019, 1:09 pmCan't Queta just tell them??? I could be wrong, but I thought I have heard interviews with Queta, and he spoke pretty good English. Re: What happened to Queta?
I would be surprised if Logan physicians were the only medical consultants for Queta. Additionally, there have been some very, very well respected medical specialists that resided in Logan, hardly a back water oasis in our current society.cbingham wrote: ↑July 28th, 2019, 8:46 amThe delay likely has to do more with complexity in privacy laws. Get Brito or someone else to help with translation if there’s a communication problem. Can they not send the MRI images??? Hell, send somebody over if you have to. I’m just a bit stunned that nobody really knows the results or what happened this long after the event. You would think that for an Aggie player with the highest ceiling in my lifetime and perhaps the first NBA player from Portugal, everyone wouldn’t be quite so casual about it but what do I know...dogie wrote: ↑July 26th, 2019, 10:27 pmBecause it was done in Portugal (according to Hartwell) and Queta won’t be back in Logan until early next week.bluegrouse wrote: ↑July 26th, 2019, 8:26 pmWow. Probably a lot of scouts there, in his eyes playing for his country might be bigger than playing for USU..

Re: What happened to Queta?
Actually, because of the steady stream of missionaries coming home from the four corners of the globe with medical problems, most physicians in Utah in general are probably accustomed to dealing with international medical information. Interestingly, most physicians in Utah are probably more acquainted with exotic diseases than are physicians in anyplace in the US except major cities with large immigrant populations, like Miami, LA, and NYC.cbingham wrote: ↑July 28th, 2019, 8:46 amThe delay likely has to do more with complexity in privacy laws. Re: What happened to Queta?
FWIW in today's edition of "Overanalyzing Social Media", Queta posted on Instagram from a team practice today, with his phone while others were in dribbling drills. So he's back, and attending team events. He's on his phone during it though, so I think it's safe to assume he's resting/healing the injury.

Re: What happened to Queta?
At the Denver road trip that was on Monday, Hartwell said that Queta would be back on Wednesday and the doctors would start to analyze him them. He said that Queta might need surgery, but they were optimistic that he wouldn't miss any games. But again, they wanted to hear from the USU doctors first.

Re: What happened to Queta?
I talked with a friend in the AD today, he said that Queta’s knee is still really swollen and they are having trouble diagnosing his knee due to the swelling, the initial thoughts from the medical staff is he could be about 6 weeks before he will be back to practice, and it’s possible that he could sit the month of November.

Re: What happened to Queta?
Well I hope for Queta's sake that it is just bruising and requires the 6 week time subside. We for sure need him when they play LSU in late November. Anyone know when we play St. Mary's, hopefully it is after the LSU game.

Re: What happened to Queta?
If they haven’t repeated the MRI on his knee at least once since he’s been back they’re making a mistake. I would’ve had one ordered the moment he got stateside and with his slow progress and continued swelling I would’ve taken another view by now with either a third MRI or a CT Angiogram to evaluate the blood vessels that run behind the knee. Continued swelling this far along tells me the initial diagnosis we all heard wasn’t correct.

Re: What happened to Queta?
We don't know that they haven't repeated the MRI. They're just not letting us in on all the details. The whole staff has Queta's best interest in mind. I'm sure it will all work out.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑August 10th, 2019, 7:29 amIf they haven’t repeated the MRI on his knee at least once since he’s been back they’re making a mistake. Do doctors in little old Logan know how to perform an MRI? All this complexity may be too much for them (this is sarcastic btw).

Re: What happened to Queta?
I wasn’t implying they haven’t, more saying what I hope they’ve been doing. Think about Durant’s injury in the Houston series. Everyone watching suspected an Achilles injury based on his reaction but the Warriors medical staff only waited one day to do the MRI which likely didn’t reveal the true Achilles damage due to the inflammation. First game back on it and it ruptured the rest of the way. Just think it’s not a good sign that the swelling is still present to this extent so long after the injury.LKGates wrote: ↑August 10th, 2019, 10:50 amWe don't know that they haven't repeated the MRI. No, he’s not gonna die, but it’s possible he misses next season.
