My All Time Starting 5
Okay....so I am bored. I was looking at the picture of all of the talent on this years team, and thought how some of these guys would fit in my personal preferences for an Aggie all time starting 5.
Here is mine.
Queta
Wayne Estes
Marv Roberts
Nate Williams
Sam Merrill
Shalor Halimon was really tough not to put in there as was Jaycee Carroll, and I found it interesting that I have 2 players each from the same era, Roberts/Williams, and Queta/Merrill. I know Sam is not a pure point guard, but he is still my choice because I had to have Nate as SG.

Re: My All Time Starting 5
Tough to argue with that starting lineup, but also tough to agree that any "All Time Starting 5" without Jaycee makes sense. Remember, he was the MVP of the WAC tourney AS A FRESHMAN. Not only was he a great shooter and scorer, but one of the best rebounding 6'2" guards I've ever seen. I love Merrill, but Carroll had 25 win shares in his Aggie career. Merrill has 15.3 so far -- and would have to have the best season in Aggie history to pass Carroll.
One would also have to consider Greg Grant, Cornell Green, Oscar Williams, Shaler Halimon, Tai Wesley, Nate Harris, Spencer Nelson, and my personal favorites Vince Washington and Jay Goodman as potential contenders.

Re: My All Time Starting 5
I don't disagree so far but it is amazing to me after so many years of Aggie basketball that a center who has played for 1 year as a freshman makes the all-time team. I guess in my life we've had years without a true 5, we've had a few solid centers but no one outstanding. Power Forward is a different story.

Re: My All Time Starting 5
can't argue with greatness....but I have been around, seen a few....one you may be forgetting...
Brian Jackson.... has to be mentioned. ( especially because he flipped the bird to BYU in the Marriott)
a lot has to do with who they played with and coached by in some respects....
awesome to day dream however.
insert your Tan Tueller comments elsewhere.

And right there also for Honorable Mention are Dean Hunger and Mike Santos — oh, and Jimmy Moore.

Estes
Wesley
Youngblood
Carroll
Merrill
All but Estes are players I saw, thus they get the nod.
Queta played one year, he's on the path but not even close yet.

One person who should be on the honorable mention lists is Gary Wilkinson.

Re: My All Time Starting 5
Mine would be: Wayne Estes
Shaler Halimon
Nate Williams
Max Perry
Greg Grant
In my opinion, Shaler Halimon was the 2nd all time best player at USU just behind Estes. Shaler made the NBA, but it was a time period where big centers ruiled the game. Had he been into today’s NBA he would have been a Star. The guy could shoot with either hand and with opposing players draped all over him. I loved watching Shaler play.
I would put Nate Williams as the 3 rd best player to ever play at Utah State. He was built like a running back and could jump out of his shoes. He also went to the NBA and was very good. Played for 11 years I believe.
Greg Grant my cousin, was deceptively accurate with a soft left handed shot. His shooting percentages were just sky high, going against guys that were often 4 and 5 inches taller. He was a very deceptive shot blocker! He made the NBA also but just for a year or two. Had his wife not died of cancer at such a young age I think Greg would have been in the NBA for 10 years at least.
Max Perry I put as one of the Aggies best guard ever! I was very young when I saw him play, so I go on what my Pop and other former coaches said about him. He was an amazing outside shooter. He was an amazing passer and could break any press thrown at him. He was also a clutch player at key times in the game. He made everyone better that played with him. He was a lock down defender, always guarded opposing teams best guard!
Wayne Estes. We all know how good he was. Mr. Aggie of All time
Marv Roberts almost made my list but it was his defense that lacked?
JC was there also but defense hurt him to.

No honorable mention for Tai Wesley? So much for your son’s friendship...
Looks like a pretty solid list although I never saw any of them play.

Re: My All Time Starting 5
Saw Jaycee at the fair last night. Dude looks better than he did in college and it was way cool to see him back in Cache Valley visiting .
He would be on my starting 5. I’ll make Sam my PG if I must.

I think Jaycee bought some land around Mendon and lives there when not playing BB. I think he also has a cabin by Bear Lake.

Re: My All Time Starting 5
Those who didn't list Cornell Green among the five best Aggie players probably never saw him play. Two time All American (do we have another? ), extraordinary athlete, drafted by the Cowboys when most Aggies didn't even know he could play football...5 pro bowls.
Best Aggie football player to never play a down at USU!
