Re: We have an open spot.
I have always wondered why R. Evans hasn't either signed with someone else or us. Is it common for a JC transfer to wait until after the season to pick a suitor? It feels like most teams are done looking by the April before the season they are expected to begin at the D1 school.

I don’t think he can sign until the spring signing period begins, but his recruitment doesn’t exactly seem to have blown up...jpswensen wrote: ↑March 26th, 2019, 9:12 pmI have always wondered why R. In response to OP, I think we are recruiting a HS PG in Vegas that apparently has academic issues and a grad transfer PG from High Point. Aggies22, have you heard any other names?
Also, just checked and still no rating for Bairstow on 247 sports — what gives there? I’m also not understanding why McChesney shows up as a three star when his composite rating is above 90. Shouldn’t that be a four star?

Re: We have an open spot.
All we’ve seen on proctor up to this point is that we along with a lot of other schools have expressed interest. Guy will have a lot of options. Haven’t seen anything yet to show that usu is even a top 5 option for him.

Re: We have an open spot.
A grad transfer have to find Utah State a good spot to be since we have all the makings to make a tournament run next season, and playing with Merrill and Queta is unique. Craig Smith in his first season won 80% of the games.
Poctor's decision is his to make, but it is crazy to not have Utah State in the top 5.

Re: We have an open spot.
Michigan is a perennial contender in the Big Ten, Maryland was a 6-seed, Nevada was a 7-seed, and Arizona is one of the most prestigious basketball programs in the West. Add in a good Seton Hall team and it's easy to think that we are perhaps not in his top five, depending on what he may be looking for.SLB wrote: ↑March 27th, 2019, 7:14 amA grad transfer have to find Utah State a good spot to be since we have all the makings to make a tournament run next season, and playing with Merrill and Queta is unique. High Point is an Adidas school, but maybe that’s why he’s transferring. Adidas hurts his feet and he wants to wear Nike.NVAggie wrote:Does he wear Addidas or Nikes?

Re: We have an open spot.
Marcus Shaver Jr, a 6 foot 2 inch Guard who played the last 2 seasons at Portland Pilots has decided to transfer within the last 24 hours. He was Portlands leading scorer this year as a sophmore and one of the top scorers as a freshman. Portland was pretty bad this year, probably why he is transferring. Wouldn't be a bad fit as he has 2 years left.

Re: We have an open spot.
It's not the greatest position of need at the moment, but Jeff Pollard, 6'9" forward is transferring from Washington State and would be eligible right away as a graduate transfer. He played with Sam Merrill at Bountiful High for two seasons. Looking at his stats it looks like he started most of the season but is more of a hustle/energy guy than a high stats guy. If another scholarship or two opens up he could be valuable as an experienced player to replace the Taylor/Brown minutes we're losing.

Re: We have an open spot.
This makes sense since Pollard would give us a 6'9" 240 dude that could rotate with Queta.aggieguy13 wrote: ↑March 27th, 2019, 7:48 pmIt's not the greatest position of need at the moment, but Jeff Pollard, 6'9" forward is transferring from Washington State and would be eligible right away as a graduate transfer. I liked his game in high school. I haven't seen him since, but he does fill a need.

Re: We have an open spot.
It’s rarely a “i only care about basketball” situation. There are several factors that complex individual may consider in finding a place to land. Maybe someone hates the cold maybe someone likes snowboarding, maybe some chick they are into is attending a different school. Maybe a player wants a team that has a lot of unity or a specific style of play.
All Smith’s staff can do is make the best case that USU fits goals a player has.
All any organization is, is a group of people. People join people. They don’t join stats of even just the legal entity of the organization.
That’s why having someone like Smith recruiting for us is huge-because he understands this and he can actually address concerns. Because top talent won’t join us, unless we can cut through the BS and see what the players need as people.
Tl;dr- Smith will bring in the right guy

Any movement on departures/additions? Do we expect visits before the late signing period?

Re: We have an open spot.
I trust Smith as much or more than anyone but recruiting is a crap shoot. Smith brought in four guys. We won the lottery with Queta. Flamed out on the Knights and Fakira isn’t likely to stay either. Maybe that is partly or mostly due to the shortened recruiting window he had when he got here and maybe 25% isn’t worse than any other class. Just saying it’s tough to know what you’re gonna get even with all of the homework and research you do.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑March 28th, 2019, 9:58 amIt’s rarely a “i only care about basketball” situation.
