He's a walk on -- in other words, he'll get no more than 3-4 minutes average per game.

I believe that he isn't a walk on.

He was a preferred walk on three years ago and went on his mission. I am pretty sure he is a walk on again. Nice to see him get minutes and play well.

He looked good, but will be hard pressed to get minutes with Collette, Grayson, Jones and Evans ahead of him.

Absolutely a walkon, as is Viko and Miles. Both Viko and Miles should redshirt, so Taylor may get some mop up minutes, but not many.

Why would a walkon redshirt? I see no reason at all.

They do it all the time in our system. Usually not good enough to command meaningful minutes, and if they improve enough to contribute they have an extra year of eligibility.

Taylor apparently has improved since he missioned. I was surprised how much I heard his name in the exhibition. I expect he'll get a few minutes here and there.

I was impressed with his play, he is definitely bigger then I remember him. He has a good feel for the game and looks to be a good rebounder. Though due to the poor team we played really hard to gauge how well he performed.

Overall I liked what I saw and he could definitely be a contributor in future years. Maybe like a Matt Formisano, but with more size.

In the post-game interview with TD, he liked what he saw from his play. TD is high on him and "likes what he can do." He'll get more minutes than I would've expected.

I hope he gets lots of time. I think he is a great player and I think it might even be possible that he could lead the whole team! :scotsman:

If he can rebound I hope he can find his way onto the court. Stew would never give a walk-on many minutes but maybe TD is different that way. We'll see.

In the limited time I've watched him, QT looks to be a pretty good outside shooter as well.

I can't even remember one of our walkons that was hear for 4 years, let alone 5. Why would a walkon redshirt? They have nothing to win. Who was the last walkon that actually got a scholarship in basketball. They might as well get their 4 year degree and go on with their lives.

I would think Viko has to redshirt because of transfer rules.

Skyler Halford was a walk on before his mission at USU. After his mission he went to SLCC and then got a scholarship at BYU and was a contributer on their team getting a lot of minutes. Granted he was not at USU for more than 1 year but he did end up with a scholarship at a D1 school.

There are advantages to both the player and the school to redshirt a walk on. First the coach needs bodies for practice and scout team. My guess is that the recruiting of these plays goes something like this: Come to USU and walk on, we will redshirt you and you won't lose any eligibility your first year. You will have the opportunity to prove yourself and if you are good enough you will earn a scholarship. It is a win win. The player gets a tast of D1 ball they would have otherwise not gotten and a chance to prove themselves. The coach gets a practice player and another year to evaluate the player and determine if he is worthy of a scholarship.

Remember just a few years ago when we did not even have 10 players for practice because of injury and players leaving the team?

You are right most walkons do not stay and do not pan out, but I do think our walkons this year may be the best we have had in some time.

Well just say Next Man Up . . with Collette's quitting, Taylor is going to be a regular contributor. Good job Quinn.

He looked much bigger than I remember him. Did he grow 2 inches over his mission? He came out and hit a nice jumper and contributed some Formisano style solid minutes.

I know his family and they say he's put on weight and muscle -- I think about the same height.
