Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
UNLV is funny. They have exactly two years of success in football in the last 30 and now they are just going to automatically jump to the Big 12, especially after the Big 12 has said on several occasions it's taking a pause from expansion.
And UNLV has let their flagship program, men's basketball, fade somewhat the last five years or so. I haven't felt like UNLV's MBB program was a threat to anybody in the conference for a while, last years 5- point miracle win by USU notwithstanding. So I think the only option they have is the PAC, provided they can get out of their agreement with the MWC.
Finally, on the subject of MWC Championships arenas, UNLV fans are always so pissy about us "playing on their floor," and "sitting in their seats." I'm glad when they lose on the first say so we can sit wherever we want. I just don't like playing in their home arena. It's an unfair advantage which they, fortunately, have failed to take advantage of but could if they were smart about it. I think their coach is a chump.
I would prefer to see the games played in T-Mobile or at the Michelob Ultra arenas. They are smaller venues, and will look more full on TV, which is a selling point for the conference in TV deals. I see some of these conference tournaments on TV and it looks like a game between San Jose State and Air Force in San Jose's place.

Selfishly....would love to see the tournment come to Los Angeles. The Intuit Dome is super nice!! Great venue for college sports and the HURD.

I would love to see the MW designate that the two sections behind each basket are reserved for the student sections. No school is given those areas to sit. Then they say that students get in free with a student ID. I would love to see each student section be full and face each other.AggiesForever wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 8:12 amUNLV is funny. Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
I think it would be fair that whoever wins the conference regular season one season gets to host the following season. I wouldn't mind if they just start with the 2027 tournament being in Pullman or Corvallis, depending on whoever finishes higher out of WSU and OSU, then the 2028 tournament being at the home of whoever wins the 26-27 regular season, and so on.

That would be terrible. The tournament should be somewhere that fans want to go.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 1:25 pmI think it would be fair that whoever wins the conference regular season one season gets to host the following season. Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
100% agree, for small conferences that only ever get 1 bid than I think allowing the regular season conference champ to host it makes a lot of sense. For the MWC and the new PAC conference Vegas is the best option.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 2:13 pmThat would be terrible. Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
Vegas for the tournament is so much fun. It’s like a giant college basketball convention. It has everything Half the people repping their teams from all the different conferences. My buddy drunkenly talking sh*t to the UCLA player walking by (who ended up being a multiple time NBA all-star), hooker trading cards, giving side eye to anyone else wearing MWC team gear that isn’t USU, walking by an Arizona fan calling “bear down” followed immediately by giving a “fork ‘em” to the ASU fans, and doing the same for every non-MWC, non-byu/utah fan and getting all of them to “cheer for USU” (even if they’re doing the same to me)

Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
The Big Sky did this up until about ten or so years ago. It fell apart as various fan bases and the tournament popularity grew. Fans soured on some of the less desirable locations. Especially when other conferences were holding regular tournaments in the same location year after year. In some instances, fans cited lack the infrastructure, travel difficulties, lack of desire to go to Missoula or Cheney or what have you in early March. When I was at UM in the late 90s, Missoula would be stretched to capacity for rooms for graduation or Maggot Fest. Now you have fanbases from other schools to add in. Anyway, there was quite a bit of disgruntlement and pressure to move to a single, regular destination and involve more schools. Enter Reno. Seems there were some complaints about Reno not giving a rip about the tournament going on and they moved to Boise. Which I presume is working out for them.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 2:22 pm100% agree, for small conferences that only ever get 1 bid than I think allowing the regular season conference champ to host it makes a lot of sense. I’d say stay away from this format and stick with a “big time” tournament in Vegas.
