DS Spotted at the Airport
Just saw DS at the airport waiting between gates headed to Vegas or Raleigh. Likely headed to the game tomorrow but is it normal for her to travel separate from the team? Possibly going early to recruit UNLV to the PAC or just going to enjoy some nicer weather?

Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
While ADs generally travel with football teams on their charters, they usually travel on their own separate from basketball teams, when they do travel, likely cause of their schedules requiring them to travel at different times than the teams.
Rance got his DUI on the way home from the airport after the Pacific game.

Also it very likely could be for meetings with other schools in Vegas about the PAC12 too. Could be completely unrelated to USU tomorrow. AD's do typically travel separate especially if they have meetings that require them to be there longer or earlier than the team.

That brings up a great point. Where do you think they'll hold it? I would love for them to put it in Salt Lake, but my guess is that it will most likely be in Vegas or in California somewhere.

Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
It should be in Vegas, it the best location and the place where it will be well attended. Orleans is already tied up with the WCC and WAC. T&M will be tied up with the MWC. I am guessing it will be at the MGM or T-Mobile. Unfortunately none of those are as good as the T&M as I think the T&M is the absolute best location for it.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 2:41 pmThat brings up a great point. Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
I would be surprised if they did not keep it in Vegas, would love to have it at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas is such a great location for a conference tournament, always fun to go watch a bunch of conference tournament games at a sportsbook when the Ags aren't playing, I hope they keep it in Vegas!AgTime wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 2:42 pmSomewhere warm please.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 2:41 pmThat brings up a great point. Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
It needs to stay in Vegas. The Pac-12 tried LA and even with 2 teams there it was a failure. Vegas wasn't. The MW tried Denver and it was a failure. The WAC tried Reno and Las Cruces and in the end found it's success in Vegas. It's easy to get to for most people in the west and it's just a great place for tournaments. There's a reason that the MW, Pac-12, Big West, WCC and WAC have all landed in Vegas. Unfortunately it will probably be at the T-Mobile arena which doesn't have great sightlines for basketball. Another spot that could be interesting would be Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay. It seats about 12,000 and the Pac had been using it for their Women's Tournament.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 2:41 pmThat brings up a great point. Where do you think they'll hold it? T mobile or MGM would most likely mean higher ticket prices. Of course, the T&M tickets have increased in price quite a bit recently too.

Obviously, she likes to negotiate important deals in person. Therefore, she's on her way to meet Calhoun's agent to lock down the extension terms. Only answer I'll accept.

Canzano has floated an idea that the reason the MW invited NIU was that they think UNLV might be on the way out….VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 2:07 pmAlso it very likely could be for meetings with other schools in Vegas about the PAC12 too. Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
2023 is the last year I can find for Pac-12 ticket prices. Upper Bowl all-session passes were $359 and that only included the Men's games. The Women's tournament in the Pac-12 has always been a completely separate event. This year Lower Bowl tickets for the MW are $335 and that's up quite a bit from 2023. I'd expect a big jump in ticket prices moving conferences...and let's hope that the games aren't at MGM Grand. It's the worst of the Vegas arenas in my opinion.

Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
I was about to say that I think that there is a reasonable probability that UNLV will be in the PAC by the time the dust settles. I don't think the MOU that UNLV signed is legally binding until a new TV deal is actually signed (although I am not sure about that). And my guess is that the lawsuits on the exit/poaching fees will be settled with the PAC paying the MWC much less than what is stipulated in the contracts, meaning UNLV will get a far smaller "bonus" than they planned on. Assuming that is what happens, I can't imagine why UNLV would want to remain in the MWC. The only question is whether the PAC will still want them.Section_L_Aggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 3:32 pmCanzano has floated an idea that the reason the MW invited NIU was that they think UNLV might be on the way out….VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2025, 2:07 pmAlso it very likely could be for meetings with other schools in Vegas about the PAC12 too. She could easily be visiting donors in the Vegas area this week.
I happen to know that Rabidchild will be in the visiting AD suite tomorrow at the T&M.

I think UNLV has their sights set on the Big12, but when they realize that is unlikely, they may very well see the PAC as a more desirable alternative.

Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
Based on performance over the last 25 years, the highest UNLV should be setting their sights is the PAC and hope that some modicum of success, either on the field and/or drawing fan interest, might help get them into the Big12 in another decade. Of course, in another decade it wouldn't surprise me if the mega conferences implode and we are back to regional sanity with college conferences (at least what is left of college conferences).

Re: DS Spotted at the Airport
From talking with a couple close friends who are UNLV boosters, this is exactly the thinking. In their minds, the goal is Big 12 membership in the near future. Thus, why pay millions of dollars to go to a rebuilt Pac 12 conference briefly, when the alternative is to instead receive a bunch of money to dominate the MW for a couple more years before making the move up? They're focusing all resources on football, since that drives conference realignment. It's definitely a risky strategy that could backfire spectacularly. Behind closed doors there is a lot of disagreement and second-guessing, because they know the Pac 12 is a far better option if there is no Big 12 in the immediate future. I would not be surprised at all to see UNLV in the Pac 12 by the time it re-starts play in 2026.
