For those that were there

How did the noise level in this game compare to some of the loudest games of the past ( Nevada, Utah, Boise to win the 19th straight, etc.)?

Coming through the TV, it didn't seem as loud as this games.
It was loud, maybe the loudest this season, but not as loud as hosting New Mexico last year.

Not a game I'll remember for the noise. My ears weren't ringing when I left, which had happened maybe 5 times in my time

What was the loudest ever? The Butterfield game comes to mind.

For me this was the loudest I have ever experienced. New Mexico last year was a close second.

Put a stopwatch on it, instead of watching the ref - he isn't a timepiece. I did it about 10 times, from the instant Allen touches the ball to the instant it leaves his hand. Every time it was over 5 seconds. We got a break.

One other thought. The ref seems to start very fast. It almost seems like he was at 1 almost the same time Drake gets the ball. I am sure someone has put a timer to it?!
Yes I noticed that to, not sure that is something this ref does as a "starting" point. I have not ran a timer to the whistle but just counting out loud it seems very close and it may be slightly at or just over 5 seconds
Regarding ref counting technique for 5 seconds, I had a discussion about this many years ago with a friends who spent decades reffing HS basketball. He said that most refs like the technique where you start the count with your arm extended. His rationale was that if you start with your hand at your body, then it is too easy to have the first count be a different duration that the remaining counts. The first would only go from body to extended, but the rest have to go from extended-to-body-to-extended. If you start extended and then do extended-to-body-to-extended for all 5 counts, it makes it easier to kindof have a muscle memory for counting correctly.

Not sure if this is how the ref did it, but might account for some thinking it was at a differing number if counts. He may not have started counting until the first time he had his hand in the extended position.
I had this same thought. His counting likely didn’t start with the first motion away from the body anyways. Otherwise the first count is only 1/2 second.

This was the loudest for me too. The game Steve Ducharme beat Utah was close too.

Of games that I've been to it was probably top 3-5. Definitely not as loud as Nevada 2019 but still great. I haven't been at some of the other loud games in history but this was my 12 year old daughters first time in a sold-out Spectrum and it blew her mind. I think she's hooked for life.

For me the loudest was the Nevada 2019 game, but maybe being on the front row has me biased…

It’s hard to gauge because last night I was in section N row 9 and I wondered if maybe it didn’t sound as loud because the students were to my right. Also felt like Bosie kept silencing the crowd last night. But that game winner was loud for sure!

That's kind of how I feel. Nevada 2019 never got quiet. It stayed loud. Ear ringing loud. Last night had its moments but it also wasn't consistent. The end was fantastic though.

Stopwatch doesn't matter - they don't put an official clock on it. The count is purely at the pace of the official and the ball leaves Drake's hand just as the official gets to his fifth repetition.

Fussing over a call is nonsense. You can't change it....and I would point out there are always calls that are missed or miscalled. Point to the over and back violation that BS clearly made earlier in the game.

This game from the clip was loudest for me. Nevada in 2019 was close to this. I wasn't at the New Mexico game last year—shame.

Pretty sure I have permanent hearing loss from the handful of times the Spectrum has become so loud that everything becomes a silent buzz as my eardrums ascend to Aggie-Valhalla. Those moments where I'm screaming my heart out but cannot hear myself while the roar of the crowd shakes my chest like a new heartbeat. Good stuff.

That's not the rule, though. It's by the ref's count. The player throwing it in is reliant on the ref's indication. He got it in on the ref's 5th count. No violation.

The radio before the game said his assistants run offense and defense in the game. He simply works the refs. Clearly it's working for him but it is frustrating as an opposing team.

As much as i despise Leon while he is on the sidelines, listening to several interviews from him the last few years he seems like a decent guy off the court.

Boise played about as good as they possibly could have tonight, and it still wasn't enough to beat USU. They shot 54% from three, out-rebounded the Aggies by 6 (9-3 advantage on the offensive boards), and only turned it over 7 times.
Not to mention USU had a horrific night from the free throw line. The fact that we won that game speaks volumes to how resilient our team is.

Wasn’t around for those games, but I can’t imagine it getting much louder than it did tonight.
It got so loud that Leon was holding up fingers (1-5) on inbounds plays… then the players would check the inside of their shorts where they had written down what play was tied with each number. If that makes sense.
Was it so loud that your ears shut off so that everything seemed silent?
I remember games like that. Such a crazy feeling.
