$2 billion would be a nice setup to start your next venture.

Is 10x annual earnings normal for large acquisition?

I've only been peripherally involved with 3 small business acquisition, usually pay 2.5-3.5x annual earning

I’ve seen more and less. Depends on many factors like debt and growth. Probably the right time to sell. It’s trendy now but that’s wearing out.

Typical business with recurring revenue like Crumbl with their franchise structure will sell for somewhere between 8-12 times EBITDA. Which would put the valuation at $1.2 - $1.8 Billion based on the $150 Million in income stated in the article. Good for them!!!! I would imagine that Aggie athletics would have some benefit from the sale given the current support from Crumbl.

The $2B sales price included debt. I wonder what their debt is? Regardless, that is a great success story. To build a brand from the ground up to a valuation of $2B in 8 years is crazy.

This is the point where I lecture my kids saying "All it takes is a good idea and a lot of hard work" all while I'm working my 8 - 5 grind and struggling like everyone else. I should take my own advice.

I’m a fan of them selling just so we never have to deal with the spectrum being called the crumble.

I’ve heard rumbling of this for about a year or so now and what I’ve heard is that stuff on the tech side is a boost to the presumed value. Whatever that means?

Curious what the ownership of crumbl looks like… I wonder how many investors they had. If they were using mainly debt, the two founders could be looking at a billion each… but I doubt they have full ownership at this point

I wonder if the founders can be like our version of Ryan Smith. Selling Crumbl for 2 billion would be solid and set them for life.

I feel like Sawyer (isn’t that his name?) was only interested in the advertising that we provided Crumble in exchange for his checks. I would be surprised if he donates much money once he no longer has a business that needs advertising.

NOPE. Sawyer Hemsley donates the exact same amount of money to BUTT that he does to Utah State. If he sells Crumbl, we'll never hear from Sawyer again.

It is a little higher than what I might say is typical (4x-8x) but it depends on so many variables it is hard to create a "normal". The highest multiple I have seen on a deal I have done was 14x. Rarely see below 3x and those are usually personal service companies or family business transfers.

Type of industry is a key factor. Tech/SaaS/Healthcare are going to get higher multiples than equipment intensive companies like construction or manufacturing because cost of capital is higher in the latter industries. Growth projections are obviously a big one, debt, etc.

I have one very large franchisor client and their multiple was very good because they had a predictable and steady stream of revenue, low debt, and good long term contracts with their franchisees and landlords. My guess is Crumbl is in a similar position.

I think you may be surprised. there may be a bit of a change of heart. I doubt the Aggies will benefit from it but BUTT certainly won’t. I will not comment any further, you understand.

I'm assuming that "BUTT" is a reference to byu? If so, why is he donating to them?

At the Air Force basketball game on Saturday 1/25 there was a pop-up inside the arena for Crumbl. Thing was that no one was there and no merchandise was there. Seems like if they are ever going to put something there they should do it when playing USU. If the Crumbl stand was selling anything I would have bought something for me and the 2 kids with me, maybe a half-dozen. When are they ever going to use it.

The irony is the lyrics to the song "Isn't It Ironic?" contain no ironies. Just bemused observations.

BUT I think Alanis would agree that a Crumbl van parking directly next to my "Aggies" plate with the license plate reading "Crumbll" after I just read this thread about Crumbl on this very site is completely ironic.

Not to thread jack, but the Crumbl guy is building/has essentially built a home that's right in back of my Mother-in-Law's ranch downs to the Utah Counties. I guess he's moving/has moved from Logan? His place is pretty big, sits on 2+ acres, 6-car garage, looks like a damn hotel. I noticed that their HQ is right next to the freeway in Orem (in what used to be a home improvement center, like Home Depot).

He bought several properties and has a HQ and house in Preston, where he's from.

The Crumbl headquarters are in Lindon. I think Sawyer is reopening a drive-inn up in Preston or something like that. But with the headquarters in Lindon, I would imagine that they all live in Utah County. (I honestly can’t figure out how anyone wants to live down there.) my wife’s cousin is a BYU guy all the way. He was even an adjunct professor for a number of years. When he moved back to Utah, they purchased a house in Lehi. They lasted about two years and started trying to get out. They eventually ended up in Southern Davis County.).
