Being in the Delta Center upper bowl for hockey games

Post by GameFAQSAggie » January 11th, 2025, 11:48 am

I was in the upper bowl of the Delta Center for a hockey game earlier this week, and one thing that I thought being there, after also having been there for basketball, was that the upper bowl for hockey games, while still not as good as being in the lower bowl, doesn't have the feel of being terribly far away for hockey that it does for basketball. Has anyone else who has been in the upper bowl for both hockey and basketball felt this way too? And I was in a clear view seat, I do know they have some seats with obstructed views and are going to renovate the arena to fix that problem.

For one thing, given the larger size of a hockey rink compared to a basketball court, you actually aren't as far away from the hockey rink as you are from the basketball court. Plus the net that you are watching for the puck to get past is bigger than the hoop that you are watching for the ball to get through. Finally, hockey players wear all the extra padding making them bigger, that basketball players don't wear.

I know there are both arenas where the upper bowl isn't as far away from the playing surface as at the Delta Center, and arenas with upper bowls making you further away from the action than at the Delta Center.

Upper bowl for hockey was fine for me. There is still a bad line of site in the corners but It was easier to follow the puck and game flow than I imagined. Basketball feels like it is miles away and not worth going in my opinion, but I would do another hockey game up there, especially if it was more in the center.

I would not use the seats that completely obstruct one of the goals though.

The delta center is a terrible venue to watch hockey.

I went to a hockey game a few weeks ago in the corner of the upper bowl and maybe 5% of the ice was blocked in the near corner. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting.

I think the steep angles make the side views from the upper deck probably the best upper deck in the NHL in terms of being close to the action. Pictured below is the view from my seats and other than when fans in front of you lean forward, the views are great.

Incidentally, I can’t make it down to most games now due to some schedule changes so if anyone is looking to get two tickets to an upcoming game at cost without SeatGeek fees, reach out to me.
