SDSU helps out Aggies beating CSU 1-0
BSU beats UNLV.
Aggies tied 1-1 with Nevada.
Aggies need to find some offense. Inability to keep teams off scoreboard when offense isn’t clicking has been their downfall in conference

Aggies give up goal with 2 minutes left 2-2
Defense has been disappointing with how experienced they are in back line.

The “strategy” of stalling in the corners for the last 10 minutes screwed them out of a chance to win the regular season. Horrible coaching decision.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑October 27th, 2024, 4:03 pmAggies give up goal with 2 minutes left 2-2

Re: Soccer
This team did not progress as the season went on. If anything they became slightly worse. Played much worse teams that in pre-season and had some very head scratching results. That Wyoming loss looks really bad now.

Bummer of a draw. Most important games are yet to come. I still believe in this team.
This has been a memorable run, no matter what. Not ready to be done any time soon.

Re: Soccer
Also that late goal cost us a chance to win the conference. Boise has 26 points, CSU has 23, we have 21, all with one game to go. If we'd held on we'd have 23, could have tied Boise with a win in Logan on Thursday which would have given us the conference title, since we'd win a two-way tie with the win, or a three-way tie (with CSU), since the Ewes tied both us and BSU. Which would have meant that the 2025 championship would have been in Logan instead of Boise or Fort Collins.
Instead we're likely going to have to play a quarterfinal game in the tournament (unless we beat Boise and Wyoming beats or ties CSU), i.e., win three times to win the MWCT and get an automatic bid.
Such a consequential, frustrating result against a team we outplayed all day....

Re: Soccer
That was an extremely disappointing game. Can’t give up a lead twice against a pretty mediocre team.
I still think this team is extremely talented and at its peak can beat anyone, so I would put anything past them. But they sure have made things more difficult on themselves.

I was thinking about this this morning, and I had to remind myself that we've only lost one game this year.
I'm not too worried about this team, but conference play has been frustrating.
I don't think that either goal was on Brendle, but she didn't have her best game yesterday either.
Let's go beat Boise twice!

Ladies with the win and CSU ties so we get second!
Huge cuz we don’t have to play the extra quarterfinal game I believe.
If that late goal from Nevada doesn’t go in, they would’ve won. Ah well.

Re: Soccer
Hadn't thought about that, but you're 100% correct. Don't allow that goal, and we're currently regular season MW champs, clinch the 1 seed, and we're hosting the MW tournament next year. Brutal.Section_L_Aggie wrote: ↑October 31st, 2024, 6:02 pmLadies with the win and CSU ties so we get second!

But super impressive performance today, and glad to see Wyoming do us a solid as well after giving us our only loss of the year. Pretty insane to end a regular season with just 1 loss.
Guessing most of the league is hoping to avoid Utah State in San Diego next week.

Re: Soccer
Our RPI is currently at #30. We are 3-0 against top 50 RPI teams and 7-0-1 against the top 100 (assuming that I didn't miss any teams). My guess is that is good enough despite the lack of marquee wins and some bad draws (and a bad loss). But it would be a good idea not to lose early in the MWC tournament. If we win the tournament, we would most likely host a first-round game. That could be fantastic if we drew an opponent who isn't used to playing at elevation, but there is high probability that it would be a rematch with either BYU or UVU.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑October 31st, 2024, 9:32 pmI assume their RPI and metrics are high enough will get in to NCAA tournament if happen to lose in MW tournament?

Re: Soccer
I would think so. Entered the day at 29 in RPI, and that should go up a little bit. Even a loss in the semis shouldn't be nearly enough to knock them out. In fact, I'd guess there's still a pretty strong chance they host in the first round.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑October 31st, 2024, 9:32 pmI assume their RPI and metrics are high enough will get in to NCAA tournament if happen to lose in MW tournament?

Re: Soccer
Here's the bracket - we're in the side with CSU and Nevada. Seems weird that Wyoming, which gave #2 us our only loss and drew with #3 CSU, didn't make the tourney at all, and that #6 Nevada made the MWCT only because of that 89th minute equalizer against us.

Re: Soccer
I'm feeling quite optimistic about our postseason.
Sure, things happen, but we've been pretty solid all year. Very odd, indeed, that Wyoming didn't even make the MW tournament, but it seems like a very good omen.

I'd actually be pretty shocked if we don't win this thing. It will most likely be Colorado State in the semis, and I honestly thought we played really well against them the first time. Outshot them 16-5 and controlled the possession.

Re: Soccer
Statistically, USU is the best team in the conference, and it isn't particularly close. If betting on NCAA women's soccer is a thing, I'm sure USU is a heavy favorite. Soccer is a sport that is prone to weird upsets, though, so we'll see. I really want to see some NCAA wins. And I still say that a Final Four is possible if a few things go our way.

Best of luck to the Ladies tonight. CSU is a good team. Expect this to be a real battle. Will we get an at large bid despite the outcome?
