USU Women's Basketball
Link to media days with Wesley Brooks is below.

Well, we got what we wanted, and Ard is now gone. Wesley Brooks, early on, seems as impressive as hell.
Things that I love about this interview (and this coach):
1) We're going to press (awesome, let's do it, let's make it a USU women's basketball cultural thing),
2) We're going to shoot 40 threes per game (awesome, I'm all for it, let's make some of those),
3) Wesley acknowledges Cheyenne Stubbs as the best player on the team (although he doesn't say it explicitly). Cheyenne is really good and a standalone talent from last year. I'm glad that he sees it that way as well. That's a promising sign.
I'll believe USU women's basketball success when I see it, but these seem to be the proper first steps, if it's ever going to happen

Re: USU Women's Basketball
I for one challenge everyone to, for every post you have ever made complaining about Ard being the coach the last few years, make one post about what happens with the program these next few years.
One thing I have been saying is the real dilemma will be if this guy clears the very low bad set by Ard, improving the team to mediocre, then takes a few steps back but never to the lows of Ard.

Re: USU Women's Basketball
Ard should have been fired after we lost that first game to a DII school last year, fired on the spot!

Re: USU Women's Basketball
Seems like similar style of play to Ard teams? I know they shot a lot of 3 pt shots but maybe that is where the similarities end.918AGG wrote: ↑October 17th, 2024, 1:56 pmLink to media days with Wesley Brooks is below.

Either way hopefully can build a solid foundation this year

Re: USU Women's Basketball
Hopefully, the administration finally cares enough to field a competitive team. After axing the women's team for 17 years, we only brought it back because it was a conference requirement when we joined the WAC. We had a team because we had to, but that was just about it.

Re: USU Women's Basketball
I'm extremely excited for this women's basketball season. If for no other reason, than because I once again have some hope for the future. Stubbs is a decent player, but had to force things way too much last season. I'm really hoping other players can step up and alleviate some of that load from her. And for the love of god, I sure hope we see some semblance of a defense.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Wes Brooks. I would have preferred a coach with head coaching experience, but excited to see what he can do. Saying you want to play fast and press is cool, but it can also turn south really quick. I haven't been overly impressed with his recruiting yet either, though obviously that's a tall task.
Regardless, the schedule is easy enough and the league is bad enough that there's no reason they shouldn't be able to hit double-digit wins this year. Which would be massive improvement.

Thanks my friend! Hoping the team can start to give people a reason to care so more might hop on board as well.aggies22 wrote: ↑October 17th, 2024, 11:19 pmI dig your passion for the women's team. Re: USU Women's Basketball
I’m also cautiously optimistic, and I know it’s the old head in me, but the quote the other day about shooting 40 threes a game gave me pause. Like I said, I know I’m old fashioned but I like to see offenses running plays to get easier, high percentage shots. Not chucking threes as soon as you have a foot of space. But we’ll see what happensshoresy wrote: ↑October 17th, 2024, 8:01 pmI'm extremely excited for this women's basketball season. Re: USU Women's Basketball
I agree. The top 3 point shooting team in the country last season took 32. 40 is insanity (and frankly, I think a bit unrealistic, though we'll see). If you actually have the shooters and can consistently hit, you'll win a lot of games. If not, things will turn south extremely quickly with that philosophy.greggers1868 wrote: ↑October 18th, 2024, 5:26 pmI’m also cautiously optimistic, and I know it’s the old head in me, but the quote the other day about shooting 40 threes a game gave me pause. I also remember another recent head coach of the program, who shall not be named, who talked non-stop about fast offense and launching from deep when they were hired. So I'm in wait and see mode.

I was looking for the quote again on Twitter but couldn’t locate it. Wanted to read it again to see if it was hyperbole or maybe being facetious in context.shoresy wrote: ↑October 18th, 2024, 10:24 pmI agree. Re: USU Women's Basketball
I think the team this year will be more fun to watch, will be well-coached, will work hard and will be better. Still probably not a good team, but turnarounds don't happen over one off-season very often. I'm just looking for good steps in the right direction, especially culture-wise.
