…to being an Olympian. The top three in the heptathalon will make it to the Olympics, and she is in second place, a hair behind first place. The final event is apparently tonight at 8:37 pm on peacock: the 800 m.

She has a pretty good cushion between herself and 4th place too. As long as she doesn't totally fall apart in the 800 I think she is in.

She finished second overall and I think she already has the Olympic standard so that would mean she makes the team.

You are correct sir, as I was casually checking my Twitter and my feed was full of the results, so I totally missed the final event.

Just heard she has not met the Olympic standard. No idea who determines if she goes at this point.

So I don’t know anything about this, but from what I can infer from other people “in the know” talking about it on Twitter, she needed 6480 for automatic qualifier. She got 6456. So I’m thinking of this as like the NCAA tournament for basketball. She didn’t win the conference tourney to be an automatic bid, but she’s firmly in the field based on the rest of her body of work. Her “net rating” is like in the teens, as far as T&F is concerned. Like I said, I don’t anything about how this actually works but I was combing through replies about it.

She doesn’t have the Olympic standard, she was 24 points away. She’s currently #13 on world rankings. She needs to be top 24 to go. 2nd at the Olympic Trials should give her a small boost there. I think her spot is very secure.

I watched some of her events. She had a PR in the Javelin that really helped. Nice to have an Olympian to cheer for in the coming weeks.

Also of note, Logan Hammer didn't make it past the first round of the pole vault. Dillon Maggard will compete in the 5000m later in the meet for his chance at the Olympics.

Yeah, looks like Dillon DNF’d the 10k on Friday. The semis of the 5k are on Thursday and Finals on Sunday. It would be incredible to have a second Aggie make the team!

I would have loved to see Dillon make it as well. It seems like he's stronger at the 5,000 than the 10,000. Even though he qualified for both, I think running and then DNF'ing 10,000 a few days before the 5,000 could have zapped his energy a bit. If he could go back, I wonder if he would have been better off just focusing on the 5,000.

She just went through heartbreak failing to clear the starting height on the high jump scoring no points. We'll have to see if she still decides to continue or not. She was shown very emotional talking to her coach trying to process the reality of what has happened.

Just to clarify for people: Failing to clear HER starting height. She passed on the first several heights to come into it later, conserving jump attempts. A very common practice for high jump and pole vault. You come in at a height you know you can clear; unfortunately, sometimes it’s just one of the days where you don’t clear it for whatever reason. Yeah, really sad. She probably clears that in her sleep, but unfortunately the one day it didn't happen was on the biggest stage. Hopefully as treesap said she can keep going even if winning a medal isn't a reality now.

Presumptuous and ill-informed.
