NHL to Utah official! What's next?
Its official! The Arizona Coyotes are being relocated to Utah. I'm sorry for your loss Arizona, but I am so excited to have a team here.
Now the questions are:
Branding
Answer the poll below for your pick(s) I will include everything I've seen on twitter
Current Location
Do they use the Maverik Center (capacity 12,600) until they get their own arena? Its almost triple the size of where they have been playing this season (4,600) and built for hockey.
Do they use the Delta center which is NOT built for hockey and can fit just 1,400 more (14,000) than MavCenter
Long term Location
Will they renovate the Delta Center to be better for hockey or do they leverage the Olympics to get a brand new hockey specific arena. If so, where does it go?
Long term success of the team
Maybe @ArizonaAggie can chime in here. But I've heard the current Coyotes roster compared to the Jazz now, or the thunder of a few years ago. A very young team with a lot of draft picks. I'm not sure if the GM will stay on or if Smith will need to hire someone else. But hopefully they are aggressive and willing to spend in order to bring success to a franchise that has made the post-season once in 11 seasons.

They will be playing the the delta center. that has already been decided. The Grizzlies will still plan in the Maverik Center, at least for next year.
I kind of like Snow Eagles
But I think all signs point to Yetis. And yes, it needs to be Yetis, Yeti...the plural ends with an 's'

I really don't like the black diamonds. Completely different sport. It would be like naming a baseball team "the three pointers". I think the trappers or mountain men would be a good name.

More exposure for college hockey teams?
Youth hockey is about to explode.
How long until the Utah Grizzlies change parent teams to Utah? Would the Grizz be moved up to the AHL since several NHL teams have their AAA franchise nearby?

I'm interested to see what happens with the grizzlies. Is there enough interest in Utah to support both teams?

Cutthroats for hockey isn't going to happen. Would be cool for an MLB team, though.
Just a few months ago a former NHL player was killed by a skate cut to the throat, and it's not the first time that has happened.

According to this link there are three trademark applications that was made earlier this week.
https://kslsports.com/515413/utah-nhl-t ... rademarks/
Utah Venom
Utah Fury
Utah Blizzard
(and two placeholder names)
I'm.... not certain what I think of these. Venom or Blizzard I could grow into, but I hope they are looking at other options.

I think the real question up in the air is how much adidas is going to pay @tysteve20 to design the new jerseys.

Hockey team needs a tough name of the region. Blizzard and Yeti are pretty good.

Re: NHL to Utah official! What's next?
The Avalanche exist, play in the same division, and could be the biggest rivals. Blizzard or anything else snow related probably won't happen and they have an alternate logo that's a Yeti foot so that's equally unlikely. I like when teams in the same city use the same colors (Pittsburgh, Seattle, etc) so I like the idea of the new yellow the Jazz have and the green from 2010-22. Hive is my pick for name with Eagles a close second. Anyway, here's an example of what those colors would look like together.

Re: NHL to Utah official! What's next?
While I understand why people want the eagles, there already is an AHL team in Colorado named the eagles. While there are some teams in the AHL with the same nickname as an NHL team, they're affiliated with that NHL team, so I don't think it likely.

Re: NHL to Utah official! What's next?
I’m not sure anyone cares about that. Eagles is a pretty generic nickname and the average person isn’t going to know about or care about an AHL team from Colorado.

I'm just saying that it would break precedent. While the average person may not care, the people making the decision might.

Also have the Washington capitals that might have something to say about the eagles. Seeing that is one of their logos.dirtnsnow wrote: ↑April 19th, 2024, 8:18 amI'm just saying that it would break precedent. While the average person may not care, the people making the decision might.

With limited seating because of obstructed views at 14 k at the Delta Center and 12 k fans already asking for season tickets I think they are off to a great start.

Re: NHL to Utah official! What's next?
how do you sell 20k season tickets for a 14k venue? are they planning to build a 20k venue and manage the discrepancy in the meantime? seems like a nightmare. the DC maxes out at 20k for concerts, etc. 18k for basketball. someone explain this to me. are they just taking deposits and there's a waiting list 6k long? do you start a bidding war? how does this work in other venues? genuinely curious. At most, probably only half of those are serious, or will be serious when the time comes to buy them.ShowMeAggie wrote: ↑April 19th, 2024, 1:37 pmhow do you sell 20k season tickets for a 14k venue? are they planning to build a 20k venue and manage the discrepancy in the meantime? seems like a nightmare. the DC maxes out at 20k for concerts, etc. 18k for basketball. someone explain this to me. are they just taking deposits and there's a waiting list 6k long? do you start a bidding war? how does this work in other venues? genuinely curious. I do expect there will be upwards of 10k season tickets sold this year, though.

Re: NHL to Utah official! What's next?
For a 100 dollar deposit you'll get a lot of interest. The real question comes when the full price is set. For the knights they had some pretty good deals if you signed a 3 year (something like that) commitment for the original season ticket holders.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑April 19th, 2024, 1:42 pmAt most, probably only half of those are serious, or will be serious when the time comes to buy them.ShowMeAggie wrote: ↑April 19th, 2024, 1:37 pmhow do you sell 20k season tickets for a 14k venue? are they planning to build a 20k venue and manage the discrepancy in the meantime? seems like a nightmare. the DC maxes out at 20k for concerts, etc. 18k for basketball. someone explain this to me. are they just taking deposits and there's a waiting list 6k long? do you start a bidding war? how does this work in other venues? genuinely curious. Here are the prices for the Knights this year. KSL is saying something between 1500 and 15000 per seat.
