The Great Smithfield Earthquakes
My daughter in NL tells me she's felt 5-6 earthquakes the last couple of days.
Anybody have any insider poop?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Re: The Great Smithfield Earthquakes
Strongest one was this afternoon. It was around 3.2 on the scale. That's the only one that I've noticed so far.

Re: The Great Smithfield Earthquakes
There have evidently been about 7 earthquakes around magnitude 3 out by Benson since last night.
My coworkers were kibitzing about feeling one today around 2:30, but I haven't noticed any of them.

Re: The Great Smithfield Earthquakes
I hate to worry you guys but I seem to recall reading once the Brigham City leg of the Wasatch Fault is like some 2,000 years over do for an earthquake of 8.0 or larger (for reference I think you can read about it here: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/cfusion/ext ... P00003.pdf). Don't feel so bad though, I live near a fault that, in the past, has tended to rupture when there has been a large earthquake along the San Andreas, essentially triggering two EQ's for the price of one

Re: The Great Smithfield Earthquakes
You should rename the subject line to The great Benson earthquakes. The epicenter of many of them have been in Benson.

I don't acknowledge that place exists. Serge quite put me off it. Jan's a good guy though.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2023, 7:17 pmYou should rename the subject line to The great Benson earthquakes. The epicenter of many of them have been in Benson.

I'm your man for poop. It's the earth getting ready to open up and swallow the DGSS, so we can get a modern basketball arena.

I'll see your San Andreas fault, and raise you a Cascadia subduction zone. I live in the Willamette Valley, and have a beach cottage on the coast, right next to this bad boy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1700_Cascadia_earthquake. Geologists in 2010 gave a 37% chance of a magnitude 8.2 event within the next 50 years. To quote, "Everything west of I-5 will be toast."ViAggie wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2023, 6:58 pmI hate to worry you guys but I seem to recall reading once the Brigham City leg of the Wasatch Fault is like some 2,000 years over do for an earthquake of 8.0 or larger (for reference I think you can read about it here: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/cfusion/ext ... I roll my eyes every time Utahn's talk about living in an earthquake zone and the big one is coming.
Everywhere in the world is an earthquake zone. We get very few quakes here. Quakes are a common thing in other parts of the world.
I have yet to feel any of these Benson shakers, maybe I'm just thinking is more snow plows driving by.
