Don't look now, but the SEC is 1-4 in bowl games thus far.

Huge difference between the national perception of the SEC and the Mountain West Conference.

2/3 of their current wins are the sugar bowl and orange bowl. We’ll see how they do vs Ohio State tonight.

4-5 now. Will finish with a worse win loss % than the ACC and others.

Soon will have what.. 13 out of the last 17 national champions? Including 4-0 in NY6/playoff games this season alone. The SEC is clearly on a different level and people who try to argue otherwise just look silly.

There is a pretty clear delineation within the SEC as well. How many unique SEC teams among those 13? Alabama, LSU, and Georgia?

Florida, Auburn. So five SEC teams over the last 17 years compared to three non-SEC (FSU, tOSU and Clemson twice). If you go a bit further back then there is also current Orange Bowl champ Tennessee. This year Florida beat Pac 12 champ Utah but went .500 in SEC play including a loss to Vandy. Clearly the SEC is on a different level.

The SEC is top heavy. After Alabama and Georgia and LSU, there are a lot of Vanderbilt’s, kentuckys, Missouri’s and Mississippi States.

MWC has never claimed to be "mighty" perhaps the top G5 conference in some years, but not claiming to be "mighty"

SEC ends up 7-5, outscoring opponents by 76 on the strength of 2 50+ point wins- I think the two largest bowl game victories ever?

Florida/Oregon St -27
Missouri/Wake Forest -10
Arkansas/Kansas +2
Ole Miss/Texas Tech -17
So Carolina/Notre Dame -17
Tennessee/Clemson +17
Kentucky/Iowa -21
Alabama/Kansas St +25
Georgia/Ohio St +1
Miss St/Illinois +9
Louisiana St/Purdue +56
Georgia/Texas Christian +58

Thanks for summarizing this.

Look at the results from the top bowls that had sec teams.

Imo that’s where it matters if you perform and the sec did and showed again why they are by far the best conference. Tennessee and their back up qb smacked around Clemson, alabama smoked kstate, lsu pounded Purdue and then Georgia won it all.

If we were in a 12 team playoff this year you probably see 3 of the 4 teams in the semis from the sec. Maybe all 4.

Disagree. It is by far the deepest and best conference. Other than Vanderbilt, there are no gimme games. Alabama almost lost to last place A&M at home and within Georgia's division you have Tennessee who beat the ACC Champ last year and Florida who beat the Pac 12 champ. Other conferences have great teams at the top, but the vast majority of their games are easy. Ohio State only really has to worry about Michigan and maybe Penn State here and there. Clemson flat out owns the ACC. The Pac is mediocre as is the Big 12.

A&M almost beat Bama therefore sec is good is circular logic.

That was one of many points made and it was a fine point. There are no off nights in the SEC other than Vandy. What conference is even comparable to the SEC? No other conference is as deep. Even taking away SEC champ Georgia, Alabama beat Big 12 champ K-State by 25, Tennessee beat ACC Champ Clemson by 17 and Florida who had a losing season beat Pac 12 champ when both teams were healthy. The top heavy conference is the Big 10. After Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State it is a bad conference. The other conferences aren't even top heavy.

The SEC was the wise in deciding only 8 in-conference games and find weak opponents outside of their conference to take all the bowl money while created more chances for being undefeated. They were ahead of the curve in seeing the business side of college football. When you have all the money and NCAA on your payroll, you can have essentially the perfect conference. Put the PAC 12 on the other side of the equation, they don't expand, don't make tv deals, don't set up good bowl games, allow to be pushed around by every P5 conference not named PAC 12, and play a stupid level of a tough schedule where every team beat the crap out of each other. PAC 12 decided 9 in-conference games, 1-2 P5 non-conference opponents, and the best of the MWC.
