Still one of the greatest commercials created for a specific sporting event.

Well... the war of 1812 would like to make an objection.
I guess it could be considered a draw since both sides just wanted to stop and no real concessions were made by either side. But I mean, England burned Washington - so that's pretty bad.

The British burned Washington but they failed to take Baltimore and then left. They didn't even win the campaign from the burning of Washington let alone the war. Womp, womp. The British couldn't do much of anythingbrownjeans wrote: ↑November 26th, 2022, 11:26 pmWell... the war of 1812 would like to make an objection.

The US Navy won a lot and the British didn't receive any of their demands. On the things the British wanted in particular they had their butt kicked. For example the British wanted control of the Great Lakes. The US Navy flat out defeated them in that theater The only one that really came away with a demand mostly met was the US getting the British to effectively end impressment.
It could be said to have been a draw as there was a peace treaty with no major territorial gains. The War of 1812 also let the world know "fudge around, find out"

Also, unless your Canadian. They claim a victory in the war of 1812, but we are American so we don't talk about it.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑November 27th, 2022, 8:58 amThe British burned Washington but they failed to take Baltimore and then left. Great commercial. Unfortunately, that wouldn't fly in today's America. Too patriotic and violent. Also, we are losing the Challenger I believe. So sad.

I didn't realize that Timothee Chalamet is on the team. Multi-talented kid.

Great first half, substitutions were not good. Very fortunate

Re: Streaming World cup
Subs were horrible. Dest played great all game. If you HAD to sub for him, why would you play Moore ahead of Yedlin? McKennie was good today too, then Acosta comes in and was invisible. Musah plays like he just turned 20 and rarely sees playing time for his pro team. One moment he's great, the next you're yelling at your TV. Reyna should have been the one to come in for one of those two (probably swap one 20 year old for the other and leave McKennie in there).trevordude wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 2:11 pmGreat first half, substitutions were not good. Haji was horrible. I think either Morris or Ferreira would have been better choices.
I feel like Ream and Adams have been our two most consistently good players. You can tell Robinson and Ream play together for on the same pro team. They were both great today.

Talk about hanging on there at the end. We are lucky Iran didn't even it up.

Taking Dest off was a head scratcher. We needed that second goal in the first half or early second half. Much stressful final 10 minutes.

Anyone see a good replay of that last offside in the first half?

Netherlands love holding the ball. So much so that they are hesitant to make risky offensive plays that will create scoring chances. Preferring to keep the ball instead.
So they will hold and force the US to take chances to steal the ball and then the Netherlands will try to take advantage of mistakes caused by being too aggressive with pressure.
But this US team is very athletic and can pressure the ball really well. The US is also more creative and talented with the ball than any past US team.
The US team lacks good finishing, and their youth can result in mistakes.
If we hold our shape while pressuring well, don't make any massive mistakes (like tackling a guy from behind in the box), and finish our chances, we'll win.
That's a lot, but, yes, it's possible.

Re: Streaming World cup
Solid analysis. Seeing how we competed against England talent-wise should be very encouraging. And those guys look like they’re set up for another deep run in the tournament (finishing the group stage at a +7 GD is insane).brownjeans wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 10:07 pmYessam tingey wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 9:56 pmI thought he was onside. any hope of the yanks beating the netherlands?

Not sure if we win, but I do feel much better about this than I did Belgium in 2014 in the R16. This will be a tight game, wouldn’t be surprised if it went to ET or PK’s.
