Was this for all valley kids? Or just the ones who were being punished?

Re: USU Women's Bball
What exactly is there to like about this Aggie team?
I've been watching for a few minutes and the only thing that I've seen that I really care for is bringing Stubbs through a bunch of screens and getting her the ball near the bucket.
We play such a sad, selfish, fundamental-less, inept form of basketball. It's really disheartening.

Re: USU Women's Bball
Idaho isn’t horrible but they aren’t good, either. They hired a decently successful D2 coach coming into this season. And absolutely smacked our team with a 4th year head coach.
I also find it interesting that Kayla’s post game interviews seem to emphasize the team not following the game plan & not buying in. She doesn’t think it’s a talent problem. In my opinion, it’s definitely a talent problem; but it’s more than that a coaching problem. Can’t keep blaming the players for “not following the game plan” when the results keep ending up this way. That’s a coaching problem.

Kayla before game: OK team, here is our game plan, lets score more points than the other team.
Kayla after game: It is the players fault because the team didn't follow our game plan.

The Body Language Doctor is in session.
I'll add that the body language of so many players was atrocious at the end of the game.
Stubbs, one of the best players on the team, looked like she was super disinterested and ready to head home. I can't blame her.

Re: USU Women's Bball
I actually almost took a picture of Kayla a couple times throughout the game because I remember noticing that her body language was terrible. Throughout the whole game I saw no enthusiasm or energy. If your HC is like that in the first quarter of course the teams gonna be like that by the end (which we actually outscored them in the 4th)918AGG wrote:The Body Language Doctor is in session.

Re: USU Women's Bball
I was able to watch today's game from work, and WOOF. I mean, wow.
Don't let our three early wins fool you, this team is every bit as bad if not worse than last year's. As 918 said, there's just not really anything to like. I do think that the players seem to play a bit harder than last year, but this roster just has so little talent, and least talented of all is the head coach. She has no business being anywhere near a college basketball program. I wouldn't hire her as director of ops for a Jr. Jazz team. It's so abundantly clear that this team's struggles (beyond simple lack of talent, which, by the way, also goes back to coaching), all stem from a coach who is in so far over her head that she can't even see the surface any more. It's malpractice, it's embarrassing, and our players and fans deserve so much better than that.
I've held back this year and given the team a shot, but today was one of the worst performances I've ever seen by an Aggie WBB team, and that is really saying something.
I was planning on making the trek to Logan to attend a handful of games this year, and I will no longer be doing that.
Pull the plug, Diana.

Re: USU Women's Bball
I’ve really appreciated your willingness to be cautiously optimistic about them, but I do agree with all of this. I’m afraid this is so much a repeat of what we’ve seen throughout Kayla’s tenure. And don’t get me wrong, the Finkbeiner era was not good either. But somehow this is worse, and keeps getting worse. It’s sad the the most talented team she had (in 2021-22) had everyone with eligibility transfer. But it’s clear the raw talent of that team carried her that season, too.shoresy wrote: ↑November 29th, 2023, 5:03 pmI was able to watch today's game from work, and WOOF. I mean, wow.

I doubt Diana will do anything in season, but I say for a multitude of reasons, eating the buyout after the season is over is worth it at this point.

We’re 324 in the first NET. UNLV is 11. Great thing they’re televising our game against them at the end of this month.

I bet Cal Tech's women's BB team could beat us this year, and that's saying something because they don't give scholarships to actual athletes!

And today we've got BYU. At 72, they're the third highest NET team we'll play this year. About 100 spots higher than the team that just beat us by 27.

I'm surprised to see we only lost to Weber by 10 points. And ybu just got THUMPED by Utah (19 points). I'm guessing we'll only get beat 90-42 by the koogs.

Defensive fundamentals are severely lacking. A lot of reaching and ripping at the ball when we need hands up and feet planted. Ard should be teaching this, right?

Impressed with the team tonight. This is the type of team that would make the legendary Jerry Finkbeiner proud.

they played well-ish- I guess it’s good that they can get on for a rivalry game right? And helps when your opponent misses 14 free throws, too. Guess we will see if that translates to anything. I still don’t think it will in conference.

I keep think of starting a thread. Which random inanimate object, animal, or anything would be a better coach than Coach Ard.
The Simpsons joke about the inanimate carbon rod comes to mind.
This thread is such a train wreck I now look forward to seeing what hopeless thing comes up next.

Re: USU Women's Bball
Watched the whole game this afternoon, and that was one of the most impressive performances I've seen in the last few years. They looked really solid, played good defense, worked as a team and responded well to an atrocious start.
I was also pretty unimpressed with BYU, it will be interesting to see how their season pans out. They seem to have a lot of talent but be extremely poorly coached.
The biggest difference between good teams and bad teams though is consistency. We've shown that we can be a good team but just haven't done it with much consistency, so playing a poor Utah Valley team on Saturday should be a good test.
