Sounds like he left on his own accord. While he won a lot of games, the last year was a bit of a disappointment. No one will ever stay as long as Jerry Sloan did.

Have they floated around any ideas for a new coach? I wonder what happens with Mitchell now.

Re: Synder out!
I honestly hope that the Jazz blow it up. They've been unwatchable this year. I love Donny, but I think that it's time to part ways.
I'd like to see a youth movement (and avoid trying to be competitive during these upcoming peak Luca/Ja years).

Haha Vegas is likely getting a team soon, but it will be an expansion team, not a team moving there. Despite what a few morons on here said two years, the NBA is expanding not going away. Seattle will likely get a new team too.

That must be why the cheapest tickets for game 3 of the finals is going for 765 dollars because it is "unwatchable."

Or they enjoy watching two teams that are well coached, run great sets and play great defense along with the best shooter in basketball history. I go to a ton of college basketball games too and would pick a USU game for emotional reasons, but there is no real comparison when it comes to a neutral game.

Re: Synder out!
Enough to fill up an arena apparently
Not big NBA fan myself, I prefer college. The only NBA games I've even seen from tip off to the last bucket have been live in person, and only at one arena... the one the jazz play in. That's about it.

Relax, Its a joke guys. Obviously lots of people like the NBA. I hate it. I haven't watched more than 5 minutes all season. I don't find it entertaining or compelling in the slightest. But I'm glad everybody else enjoys it.

Re: Synder out!
From a pure basketball standpoint the NBA is orders of magnitude more watchable than college basketball, but I totally get not having a connection to a team and therefore being disinterested.

back to the original topic...
who's hearing what about potential replacements. Some names I've heard:
Who do you WANT? Who is realistic? Are they the same? I'm nervous...

Re: Synder out!
I've seen Kenny Atkinson and Charles Lee mentioned as well.
If it's Bryant we know Donovan is running the show. I'd be ok with giving Jensen a shot. Terry Stots is a good coach, I'd be fine with him too. Doc is good, but I don't see it happening unless he wants out of Philly. I don't know much about the other names.

Please no Doc Rivers. It would kill what little interest I have left in the Jazz

Re: Synder out!
I like and follow the Jazz for sure, but I watch very little of the rest of the NBA. And the Jazz stupid TV deal makes it too hard for a Utahn to see them. Who has cable anymore? Old folks, that's who.
Once the Jazz are eliminated, I almost never watch another playoff game.
It has nothing to do with politics or anything else, really. Just can't seem to get invested.

Their TV deal is really bad. A terrible decision to make it that exclusive and have so many of your fans be unable to watch your games.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑June 9th, 2022, 5:12 pmI like and follow the Jazz for sure, but I watch very little of the rest of the NBA. Re: Synder out!
The warriors are a good watch, and frankly, so are the Celtics. Tenacious defense tries to counter great offense on both ends of the floor. Neither team has the athlete that will get around players at will, so they both rely on movement, picks, and great shooting.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑June 9th, 2022, 5:12 pmI like and follow the Jazz for sure, but I watch very little of the rest of the NBA. Aside from the Jazz losing, these playoffs went as well as I could have hoped. LA missing the playoffs, Brooklyn getting bumped early, CP3 not able to get past the mavericks, and two home grown organizations (i.e. not currently a super team) making it to the finals.

Re: Synder out!
Looks like the jazz have found their new coach.
Will Hardy, been an assistant in boston most recently also worked under Popp in San Antonio. At just 34 years old (same age as Conley) he will be the youngest active head coach in the NBA.

We hired a white guy? I shouldn't be surprised, but somehow I am. Maybe Smith isn't as different as he thinks he is.

Different from other Utahns? Yes, he thinks he is. He likes to talk about Utah culture needing to change, embracing black lives matter, promoting LGBTQ+ stuff, donating scholarships to disadvantaged (as long as you're a "person of color") youth.Yossarian wrote: ↑June 28th, 2022, 5:51 pmDoes Smith think he's different?brownjeans wrote: ↑June 28th, 2022, 5:25 pmWe hired a white guy? He thinks he's way different - and maybe his is, but hiring a white guy as head coach isn't different.

Holy hell... I thought in 2022 we didn't care about skin color anymore? Can't we just let people hire qualified candidates?brownjeans wrote:We hired a white guy? I shouldn't be surprised, but somehow I am. Maybe Smith isn't as different as he thinks he is.

Re: Synder out!
Ryan Smith only gives scholarships to "persons of color" so it seems to matter to him - until now anyway
I guess in 2022 we get to choose when race matters... for the PR

Re: Synder out!
Mixed bag. This does tend to signal they are looking at a rebuild sooner than later. If they were just trying to elevate the current group they would have gone for a more experienced coach. His resume is much thinner than what I'd hope for, but he is well respected and the hope is they are getting him before he "blows up" and becomes the hot name that everybody wants. It will be interesting to see who the rest of the coaching staff is.
