Wells getting embarrassed vs Houston

Post by Imakeitrain » September 4th, 2021, 7:26 pm

They onside kicked it in the 1st qtr. Holgorsen did his homework. Wells teams are never prepared for that.

Also RGIII is in the booth and although he is otherwise doing a great job he keeps making fun of the TT QBs name. “It rhymes with Truck and another word”

Looks like they may come back

Good for Aggie alum Matt Wells to start the year 1-0 at Tech. He probably will get fired after this season, but I'll be cheering for him to beat the odds.

No stats for Columbi, I didn't see him on the field either.

Better 2nd half for the RRaiders. 31-7 after being down 7-21 at half.
Pick 6 after a 6 play 60 yard TD drive tied the score and turned the tide.
overall 3 picks in 2nd half.

It really is because what got Gary fired transpired before Henry chose to leave.

When Henry left, I felt the end of GA coming. It was inevitable for me. Henry had a great future here and paid his dues. He'll always be an Aggie in my memory.

They did not. Tech is 2-0 although definitely a bad outing by tech to barely survive. 28-22 win. 13-7 was the halftime score.

How come it was easy to jump on Matt for a poor first half in game one but there is zero mention of Texas Tech going 3-0 to start the season?

I hadn’t paid attention, but 3-0 is pretty cool for Wells and Co. Will be really fun for him if they beat the Longhorns this weekend

My thoughts are that Matt is an example of a coach that was not a real likable person. He did not resonate with the fans. This is a big reason most of us were thrilled to see him leave and be replaced by Gary (oh the horror). Matt had a good career here at USU but not a very long career. The longer he would have stayed and if he would have continued to win, the more accepting we would have been as a fan base. Saban is not very likable but he dominates and fans care more about that than his personality.

I think its because all three of those wins are non P-5 and two of them are against Stephen F. Austin and FIU.

I always liked Wells. Including when he came and chatted to a few of us after a coaches' show at the Layton Cafe Sabor. Actually seemed really personable and I've never really understood the hate some sent his way due to his "personality".

I'm in this camp. My interactions with Matt were always pleasant. I think he really cared about the players. I think he was too cautious to be a really successful coach at USU long term. I think Anderson will do better. But I do like Matt.

Me three.

He was at the bees game a couple years ago and I went up and talked to him and took a picture with him. He was awesome to me and my kid. Talked for like 10 minutes.

I like hearing these stories about Matt. I was basing my opinion on this message board and hearing him on the radio. He seemed to only talk in coach speech and never gave an in-depth answer. I’m sure my unsubstantiated negative opinion would have changed if I would have had the opportunity to talk with him one on one.

I emailed with Matt quite a bit. He ALWAYS replied, and we had good back and forths. One time, he didn't replay for a couple days, and when he did, he apologized! I always told him I didn't expect a response. Always very friendly and gracious in person. Matt will always be a good Aggie in my eyes.

Never spoke with Matt when he was a coach here. But I did have a class with him back when we were both students in 1994 and he always was personable back then. He sounded like an all business football coach whenever he gave interviews, but there was nothing to me that made him seem unlikeable during his coaching tenure.

I've never gotten the Matt Wells not a likable person, I knew Matt as a student at USU and I found him to be a super nice guy, had that midwestern humbleness and charm, always a cool dude. Maybe success changed him, who knows? I have only spoke with him a few times throughout the years (last being 2018), and he never came off as anything other than a nice guy. But then again I didn't play for him as an athlete so I don't know how he is as a coach.

I started the thread. I brought it up because the game was on. Nothing more or less. I otherwise am not going out of my way to follow Texas Tech. That first game against was also their best win and I did somewhat acknowledge it when it occurred.

Are you saying that the people who have never gotten the Matt Wells is not a likable person have never had a conversation with him (as in 'if you tried talking with him, you'd know he wasn't likable'), or are you saying the only people who claim he is unlikable have never spoken with him?
