The "Alliance" is set

so much for the speculation about the Big 10 trying to poach PAC-12 teams, they now have a 3-Conference Alliance between the two and the ACC: https://www.deseret.com/2021/8/24/22639 ... as-arrived

another take:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... influence/

buried deep in this article (^^) was this nugget, of which I was completely unaware:
"A constitutional convention will be held in November to essentially deregulate college athletics. Going forward, the conferences will have more control over legislation. If three are banded together, they could wield significant influence.

That means the alliance could have considerable impact -- perhaps even more than the SEC -- on what college athletics look like off the field. The Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 could, as a group, support a more conservative model like what exists today. The voting structure hasn't been worked out, but Power Five conferences currently enjoy a weighted voting advantage in NCAA governance.".

Like I said, there will soon be the SECAA - a football only minor league college conference made up of mostly SEC schools and some other BIG BOYS around the country. That'll be fun.

This alliance is a big nothing burger. No contract. Nothing in writing. Just a gentleman's agreement. ESPN and the SEC can cause this to crumble at any moment if they wish, if they even vote together. They can't even impact scheduling for 5-10 years.

I really hope there is an open revolt against collegiate athletics. Universities do have any business sponsoring and running professional minor league sports.

Dennis Dodd said every commissioner in this alliance has blame for destroying or causing the destruction of a conference. He has no trust they will play fair.

He thought that the alliance was nothing but a ploy to make them look like they had the best interest of college football at heart but were just a bunch of opportunistic guys in the "wait and see" then pounce on the best opportunity for their conference.

But it made them look like they wanted the best for the student athletes and college football.
Bate and switch baby.

Dennis Dodd needs to do a little more research. Both the ACC and PAC-12 commissioners are new to their posts within the past six months, and the Big Ten commissioner has been on the job less than two years. Only the ACC commissioner has experience in collegiate athletics prior to his current position, serving as the AD at Northwestern and Northern Illinois in the prior 15 years. The Big Ten commissioner comes from the legal profession and the NFL, and the PAC-12 commissioner comes from management at MGM resorts and sports media.

Now it may be true they will not play fair, and they may be opportunistic. But they have not had a hand in destroying conferences as they have not been in a position to do so in their prior careers.

ESPN is the real villain in the destruction of collegiate athletics.

I find it interesting that the BIG12 is not part of the alliance, which I would think allows the other conferences open season to raid the remaining BIG12 schools.
