So, I’m in bed last night, working the June 21st New York Times crossword puzzle, when I get to the clue for 18 accross: “The Aggies of the Mountain West Conference.”
I’ve been doing the NYT Crossword for . . . decades. I’ve never seen the Aggies in a puzzle. I read the clue three times just to be sure.
“Utes”, “UCLA” and even “BYU” show up regularly (Utes in particular, because it’s a short word that easily forms the ends of other words) — but never Utah State.
We’re on the rise, gentlemen (and ladies). If we can make it there, we can make it anywhere!

I've seen "Logan" as a response to a clue, but never "Utah State". "Provo", "Orem", and "Ogden" show up on occasion, too.

Orem shows up with weird regularity. I wouldn’t think anyone without a Utah connection would know that name.

Many people are familiar with the Orem and Thumb’em, not just Utahns
