WAC update

DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors voted today to shorten the eligibility period for participating by transitioning institutions in the Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournaments presented by TicketSmarter to two years.

California Baptist will now be eligible for the 2021 tournaments at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Dixie State and Tarleton State will be eligible for the 2023 tournaments.

The previous eligibility was based on the NCAA transition period, which remains at four years and is unaffected by this vote. The WAC joins the Atlantic Sun Conference in being the only NCAA Division I conferences to allow transitioning members to participate in its basketball tournaments.

I think Tarleton state is a left over fake school from that old weed WAC conference meme

The WAC has got to be the strangest conference in the country. There seems to be no rhyme or reason in their membership - just a landing place for misfits that want to leave NAIA, or whatever.

Member Schools:

California Baptist
Cal State Bakersfield
Chicago State
Grand Canyon U
Univ. of Missouri - Kansas City
New Mexico State
Seattle University
University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley
Utah Valley University

and now:

Dixie State College
Tarleton State

I swear - half of those are just made up, aren't they?

That just reminds me about how incredibly lucky USU is to be in the MWC.

If the MWC ever expands, I hope we invite NMSU. they are fun, especially in Basketball

It's nice having somebody we can expect to beat in football about 3/4 of the time, even when USU is having a sucky season. Kinda like Vegas.

So there's that.

Cal Baptist is the real deal, throwing money at sports left and right, even building themselves a new FB stadium as a joint venture with the Sherman Indian High School.

Along the lines of Southern Methodist and Texas Christian?

It will be a race to see who can establish the national Baptist fan base out of Cal Baptist and Houston Baptist.

All I know is that they are gunning to have a better collegiate sports program than the UC up the 91 (and over to the 60)

"Fun" like holding a pajama party at halftime and letting some kid drop a greasy pie mid-court. No thanks. Let 'em rot. Serves them right for looking the other way while their players committed crimes.
