Does this bull look familiar?

Post by travelingagg » February 7th, 2020, 12:03 pm

I live in Las Vegas and just saw an unrelated news story from Arbor View High School, home of the Arbor View Aggies.

Pumba's trademarked, if memory serves.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Have you not seen high school mascots and logos, before? They're almost all rip-offs of a college or professional team to some degree.

Arbor View adopted Pumba from the moment they were made a High School. I have spent quite a bit of time out there lately as I'm currently redesigning their football field to be synthetic and I noticed that they are introducing other bulls around campus and really pushing their AV for athletics.

Even they don't want to be associated with that atrocity anymore!!

My kids' high school had this logo here in California:

They were told to change it for obvious reasons.

No lie, we had this discussion like 20 years or so ago when AVHS was built...

BTW - I've noticed that lots of HS co-opt college logos all the time. The most egregious (IMHO) is Yucaipa (Ca) HS's use of the Y that the why stole from Yale Yucaipa uses the Y's blue color and all. Oceanside High uses Oregon's Green O. But the prize goes to Fallbrook HS use of the Ute's logo for their mascot "the warriors" https://fallbrookhs.fuhsd.net/apps/page ... ID=1729181 :

New school administrator pulled into town from Alabama and saw all the Georgia "G" and said he thought the town already hated him to hang all the Georgia banners around town.

I played lacrosse in Ankeny, Iowa vs a team from Omaha called Westside High School. Their logo for their high school (Westside Warriors) is spitting image of the Wisconsin Badgers.

Who’s going to sue a HS for copy right infringement? My son is also a bronco, he plays for a feeder team for the Vista Murrieta Broncos and they use the Denver Broncos logo as well, just blue and gold instead of that Blue and Orange. His coach is also a former Boise State WR

I was just thinking that Waukee had the same logo, just in Purple and White and was going to ask you and AggieInIowa if you remember that Wisky sent them a cease and desist letter - iirc it was somewhere in the 2002-2006 range. Maybe you're too young since it seems that you're still in HS - and AggieInIowa wasnt in the area back then?

iirc - Georgia got permission from Green Bay to copy their logo, created by a equipment manager in 1961

Yeah I am not sure. I thought Waukee did have the same logo, but purple, but I guess it is a different font with the "W." Maybe they did change it because of a letter from Wisconsin.

This is their logo now....still looks pretty close

Found an article from 2007 saying Waukee changed it to avoid a lawsuit.
https://wcfcourier.com/news/breaking_ne ... 259b3.html
Waukee's new "W" was approved by a Wisconsin licensing representative, Wilkerson said.

The new "W" looks similar to the old one, but stands straighter and is a different shade of purple.

And isn’t the Ute logo (unveiled in 72) a knock off of the retro redskins logo (70)?

I’m surprised that those schools copying the Utah drum and feathers logo are still able to use them. In the Ute Conference youth football league, Bountiful copied that logo and put a B instead of the U. A couple of years ago the conference received a cease and desist letter because of the Bountiful logo.

Would you look at that...apparently it's just the Y on the helmet that turns players into cheap shot, dirty playing douche bags...as this picture seems to indicate.

Yep, they stole the logo just like they stole their fight song (Utah Man) from an old early 1900's song
called Solomon Levi......a song about a clothier in old NY. Every time I go to an Aggie vs Ute game (which doesn't happen very often anymore, I sing the REAL lyrics to the song, much to the chagrin of the proximal Ute fans.
