Hurdles was the first event. The next event is the shot put at 11:35 Mountain.

Didn’t clear high jump and got zero points. Essentially out of medal contentionProvoAggie wrote: ↑August 8th, 2024, 10:39 amHurdles was the first event. The next event is the shot put at 11:35 Mountain.

Interesting. I’m only able to follow infrequently while working and her score went from 0 to 1100 on the page I was using so I assumed it just happened.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑August 8th, 2024, 10:39 amHurdles was the first event. The next event is the shot put at 11:35 Mountain.
Presumptuous and ill-informed.

Re: Chari is this close…
Would she have been able to jump at 1.56, and the skip to 1.71? Or once you start, do you have to attempt every height from there on?
Also, is there a good way to watch this? Peacock?

Re: Chari is this close…
the article that i read said that she started at 1.71 so that she had a higher start value, which i think gives you more points if you hit it. it also said that she could have dropped it to a lower height but decided not to. I don't know, just what i read.TrueAggieman wrote: ↑August 8th, 2024, 11:39 amWould she have been able to jump at 1.56, and the skip to 1.71? Re: Chari is this close…
Is there a head Olympic track and field "coach" (for lack of a better term) that is over the team and can make sure the individual athletes know these rules and plan their strategies accordingly? Or does each athlete just have their own personal coach/trainer and each athlete is on his/ her own to figure these things out?

Re: Chari is this close…
The look on her face seemed to indicate she didn't realize she would be OUT if she missed the jump and was distraught by what the coach told her. And even if she knew and was greedy enough to want the points for starting at 1.71, it was the coaches job to make her get on the board by starting lower. It's like how in football, players ALWAYS want to go for it but the coaches over ride them with decisions to punt or kick a field goal, and if they go for it and get stopped, its the coach that gets crucified for the call to go for it and/or the play that is called, not the players for failing.Yossarian wrote: ↑August 8th, 2024, 3:55 pmIs there a head Olympic track and field "coach" (for lack of a better term) that is over the team and can make sure the individual athletes know these rules and plan their strategies accordingly? I’ll never forgive GA for running Turbin on a sweep to the short side of the field against CSU.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑August 8th, 2024, 5:08 pmThe look on her face seemed to indicate she didn't realize she would be OUT if she missed the jump and was distraught by what the coach told her. Re: Chari is this close…
usa showed her hurdle race. During her failed attempts, they were focused on the running events and the shot put. I was able to find the nbcsports app to watch two of her failed high jump attempts. USA network showed her emotional moment announcing she was out, and the high jump attempts that happened after that.tipitup wrote: ↑August 8th, 2024, 11:55 amthe article that i read said that she started at 1.71 so that she had a higher start value, which i think gives you more points if you hit it. it also said that she could have dropped it to a lower height but decided not to. Re: Chari is this close…
Initially I thought it was a really reckless move to wait so long, but I looked into it and I’m not so sure.
She started out at 1.7 at the USOT and made it to 1.82.
I can 100% see why she’d want to open at that height. That should have been relatively easy for her to clear that and saving a few jumps is smart.
On the other hand it completely sucks that she didn’t clear it. She’s dead last (except for someone who DNS) and unless someone drops out or has a similarly tragic result she has no chance to catch up to anyone.
Still, I’ll be cheering for her. I’m excited to see how she responds tomorrow and I hope she finishes strong.

Re: Chari is this close…
The would be a girl from Germany who got hurt and the girl from the Netherlands who won the silver in 2020 that for some reason decided to withdraw.
Just taking the points for hitting 1.68 like the girl from France did would have been good for a 17th place finish in the total standings. Hitting 1.71 and doing no better from there would have been good for 16th total. Hitting 1.8 which she has done before would have been good for 12th.

Tough deal. She did do pretty well in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Still an amazing achievement to make the Olympics. She's up there with the elite of the elite in her sport to accomplish what she has.

One thing of note is that a number of sites that published the video of her meltdown have since likely felt guilty and taken it down.

The finality of the situation must hit hard. You play back in your mind all the "what ifs?". And then you ask "now what?". I would imagine she retirees from competition, right? Hit the motivational speaking circuit?

This is happening to all videos from the Olympics. NBC is getting everything taken down.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑August 11th, 2024, 8:23 pmOne thing of note is that a number of sites that published the video of her meltdown have since likely felt guilty and taken it down.

The Olympics were fun. Lots of great story lines. Even the Hall gal for the US only took 5th. Chari represented well regardless of the outcome. It is heartbreaking, but that is life sometimes.

Yeah I watch more Olympics this year than I had in a long time. A lot of fun. Even the basketball is more fun now with the games being competitive. Steph curry against Serbia and France was great entertainment.

Re: Chari is this close…
She has opened up talking about the heartbreak. And has even gone as far as posting the video of her breakdown on her own instagram page.
