St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
I am confused by Tinkle’s meaning. Is he saying someone will be added in the next 24 hours? Was going to be but plans changed permanently and the PAC-12 is going a different direction? Still might be added but not in the 24 hour window? The lawyer in me is screaming for follow-up questions that were never asked.
22 seems to clarify the school in question is SMC. But is this still on the tracks or is the PAC-12 now going a different direction?

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
I think the PAC offered them, but they backed out.
Luckily for us.
I’m very on the record wanting nothing to do with SMC in a conference.
I think tinkle was meaning at one point they were 24 hours away from adding someone and in that last 24 hours they backed out.

It’d really surprise me if St. Mary’s said no. Why would they?Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 11:08 amI think the PAC offered them, but they backed out.

Why would SMC to Pac12 send "shock waves"? They don't have that kind of impact.

St. Mary's would not send shockwaves

Now THIS would send shockwaves. That said, I fully trust Aggies22 that at this time it was St. Mary's.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
I really hope we don’t add SMC. I actually think they like the idea of owning the WCC.
Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
I think they were 100% referring to St. Mary's but I disagree with that sending shockwaves. I don't think they would be a great addition.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 11:18 amNow THIS would send shockwaves. That said, I fully trust Aggies22 that at this time it was St. Mary's.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
Gonzaga has the money and viewership to keep going.
St. Mary's does not, so their current coach who is close to retiring is the program.
I would not rule out Wichita State because they have money, viewership, and probably looking for something better than the current AAC.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
UCONN actually makes sense in my mind (basketball up to Big East snuff, solid football landing spot), but travel costs would be insane.

They seem to fit in the WCC better -- have you seen how small their gym is?ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 11:10 amIt’d really surprise me if St. Mary’s said no. Why would they?Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 11:08 amI think the PAC offered them, but they backed out.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
I don't want St. Mary's. They are a good basketball school, but don't we really need more football? I also question whether their success as a member of the WCC is sustainable. I think Gonzaga has proven that they have staying power, but I am not sure about St. Mary's.
Are we certain that all remaining MWC members are off the table for good? UNLV or Nevada would be my top choices if Memphis is off the table.

SMC joining would not be shocking but expected. It has to be someone else.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
Assuming that we are adding Memphis and Tulane. If we add any more non-football schools I would guess that they would be Midwest schools. Wichita State and Dayton would be my top picks.
To me it makes sense to get up to 12 football schools and 14 or 16 basketball schools.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
SMC would be more like an aftershock. Which is just a cool way to say ripple or domino. Heck we were a domino.Aggies1888 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 11:15 amWhy would SMC to Pac12 send "shock waves"? They don't have that kind of impact.
Short of a P4 or big east school like UCONN moving to the PAC (to include men’s hoops) which is unrealistic the only schools that would be a shockwave would be Tulane or Memphis.

Clearly the only answer is both Wichita State and Tulane. Shockers and Green Wave. Shock waves.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
If it was UConn there would have to be some sort of travel deal.
If it was St Marys then we are having issues getting the other big names thrown around.

UCONN, as a full member, might have made some sense. UCONN for FB only would not.

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
UNLV hasn’t been good in years in basketball but has the attractive location and Arena. It's been a while for Nevada too. Neither has any great fan support and I imagine Alford probably bails after this season. New Mexico has staying power in basketball and would be an attractive b-ball only partner but I doubt the MWC would allow that.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 12:04 pmI don't want St. Mary's. Cal and Stanford make them work and they aren’t elite in either sport

Re: St. Mary’s to PAC-12?
No way we should be UConn’s side piece.
Every school needs to bring every sport they have tag the pac 12 offers especially basketball and football.
